The interview panel asks this question to ensure you meet their minimum requirements. If you made it to the interview, you must have an average GPA of 3.0. Discuss your average GPA with the interviewers.
Tell the interviewers your average GPA. Then, if it is lower than you would like, explain why your GPA is not higher without sounding like you are making excuses. Perhaps you did well in most of your classes but struggled in a particular area, decreasing your GPA.
