At Office Depot we have a very clear return policy. How would you handle a customer who was arguing with you about a potential return?

At Office Depot, we have a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee for all of our Office Depot-branded products, which may be returned or exchanged for a full refund at any time for any reason. There are certain exceptions to these rules, and sometimes customers may argue that they should be allowed to return these excluded items. Talk to the interviewer about how you would explain our return policy to an upset customer, and how you would turn the interaction into a positive experience for the store and for the customer.

"That 100% Satisfaction Guarantee is hard to beat -- it's hard to imagine a customer complaining or arguing with the policy! If a customer was trying to return an excluded product -- like a custom-made item, for instance -- I would explain to them the reasons behind the company's policy so that they understood where the company was coming from. If the customer was still upset or frustrated, I would check with my manager to see if we could offer the customer a one-time 'peace-offering,' such as a small coupon or merchandise card, so that the customer leaves the store feeling cared for and like their frustrations were heard."
