One of the most heard complaints regarding emergency service overall is the wait time from the time a patient arrives to the ER until he or she is seen by a provider. Share with the interviewer any experience you have with emergency room care, either as a provider or a patient. The interviewer is giving you an opportunity in this question to share your thoughts on improving care. If you answer this thoughtfully, rather than critically, it could give the interviewer some insight to your problem solving skills which are vital for any healthcare provider.

"Having had to have emergency care myself, I do understand the frustration of waiting, especially when you are in pain or are afraid. I think so many things need to be taken into account, however, before a true judgment call can be made. That is where having enough triage personnel can help alleviate some concerns or problems. If patients can be triaged and have their concerns addressed, rather than sitting in a waiting room without any medical personnel contact, it will assure them that they have not been forgotten. Also, with properly trained triage personnel, the most emergent patients can be quickly seen without having to wait as their conditions possibly worsen."
