"I am currently a product manager for an app that allows users to track their moods and activities. The earlier version of the app only allowed users to select from a list of keywords to describe their moods. While this was helpful, many users reported that they also needed the ability to track the degree to which the keyword was applied. For example, if they were feeling anxious, they wanted to also track whether the level was low, medium, or high.
Our development team wanted to work on a set of features allowing users to see a chart of their moods over time. They felt introducing mood level tracking would take us off track. I did some market research to show that including my proposed feature set would improve customer happiness and market share. I also demonstrated how we could integrate the mood level data I wanted to capture into the charts the development team wanted to work on next. Finally, I helped them understand why this feature was significant in terms of users having the ability to identify mood patterns and triggers.
My efforts to educate my team and advocate for my users were successful. We rolled the mood level and charting features out together and the customers loved them!"
