Question 20 of 25

Tell me about yourself.

"Thank you for the opportunity to let you know who I am! My name is John Smith, and I was born and raised in Anywhereville, USA. I am the youngest of three children and looked up to my two older sisters growing up. My oldest sister is a successful high school teacher and coach, and my middle sister is just finishing PA school. She inspired me to take that path too. Our father owned a hardware store in my hometown, and I loved growing up around the store and helping where I could. By the age of 14, I was working weekends in the store where I stocked shelves, took inventory, and manned the cash register. My mom was a nurse her entire career, and she inspired my sister and me to become PAs. I enrolled in a great biology undergraduate program and worked hard to make the dean's list every semester. The study and preparation habits I've built over the last four years will help me greatly if I'm fortunate enough to be accepted into your program. I spend the majority of my free time with my dog Hank. I got him two years ago and have been training him hard to be a duck-hunting dog. I was raised in the outdoors and have a passion for outdoor-related activities. Hank and I love hiking and canoeing as well. I'm also a very avid cook and love to host parties for friends and family where I try new and elaborate recipes."

      How to Answer

When talking about yourself and who you are during the PA school MMI process, start by giving a brief history of your upbringing so your interviewer will get a feel for the values you were raised upon. Stress that family values are important to you because they reflect well on success in the healthcare setting. Then talk in detail about your academic path and the successes you've seen along the way. To give your interviewer a chance to see what excites you and makes you unique, talk about your hobbies and interests outside of the classroom. Allow the interviewer to hear your passion for living your life to the fullest.
