"The achievement I am most proud of, so far, was completing my undergrad, top of my class. While maintaining solid grades, I was also President of our school's Diversity Club and spent time volunteering at the local animal shelter."

"The achievement that I considered to be the proudest of would be the healthcare shadowing experience in Ecuador. Through this, I was exposed to an underdeveloped country where I had to help them in a very dynamic way by assistant other health professionals like pharmacists, dentists, doctors in gynecology, and general medicine. I consider it to be a very shocking experience sense. I really know now what it takes to be a healthcare professional, especially in those circumstances where empathy and commitment, and selflessness should be the #1 priority. Things that I experienced about their culture and understanding how severe this poverty is, and knowing that helping them will make a difference."

"Volunteering at _____ Community Center was one of the best experiences I have ever had, particularly at a time when any kind of support was needed. This volunteering experience has enabled me to contribute, even if a little, to the community and play a role in helping people cope with the challenging conditions of COVID-19. What weakness do you feel attending MCPHS University can help you overcome?

"I believe I could improve my written and verbal communication skills as I tend to be longer-winded than I would like to be at times. I enrolled in a week-long workshop to become a more eloquent communicator. I hope to gain skills in this workshop that I can continue to utilize during my university career."

"Although I support traditional medicine, I understand that alternative medicine can benefit some. I agree that there is a science behind alternative medicine; however, alternative medicine should be more strictly regulated. People need to educate themselves before jumping into 'all-natural' therapy. Prescribed teas and herbs can be dangerous if taken in the wrong dosages. Even though it is natural, it doesn't mean your body will like it. As with all medicine and practices, research and education are crucial."

"I find inspiration in a variety of people and things. I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me has been my grandmother. She always had a smile on her face no matter how hard she worked, and she loved everyone. She was well respected and always gave more than she received. I try to live like her as much as I can."

"I have inspired by my neighborhood pharmacist. He had a passion for helping people. He always opened his store early morning, and I have seen many patients waiting to get cured. The patients gave him appreciation and respect for what he's done for the community. I had a passion for being a pharmacist since then I wanted to be him."

"My biggest inspirations in life would be my parents. Even if they went through so much with these illnesses, they never gave up and fulfilled their careers very successfully and happily. My father is a big inspiration to me since even having this disease for many years, he has overcome it and has successfully become a lawyer and most currently a Ph.D. in Spanish literature. If there is something that he has shown me is that age and diseases do not determine your capacity and goals in life. My mother has shown me never to give up no matter how bad things may seem and always try to take things in a positive way to keep growing."

"My uncle who is a pharmacist is the figure who has influenced and inspired me the most. I have upheld the fondest childhood memories of him, and he embodies everything I aspire to be. I did not have many people to look up to growing up, so to see a successful, happy, intelligent person doing what he loved to do, stuck with me. I want to use my education to transcend and elevate myself; and, in turn, I want to come back to my community and help it as much as my uncle did so many years ago."

When you receive feedback or criticism of your work, how does that impact you?

"Last year, I received a low grade on a chemistry project. When I approached my professor about the low grade, he said, 'You can do better. I expected more from you.' I was taken aback at first, but once I had time to absorb what was said, I realized that he expected more from me because he had high expectations of what I could do. It was a compliment and a challenge rolled into one! I re-did the assignment with more passion the second time around. My grade improved significantly, and I thanked that professor for holding me to a higher standard."

"One time I was studying with a group of colleagues and one of them asked me to explain something about organic chemistry and while I was explaining, another colleague interrupted me and told me that I was wrong. I immediately got confused and was trying to understand why I was wrong but decided it was better to listen to his explanation about why I was wrong. I'm quite good at accepting criticism and feedback. It is very important to acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them. I think that is essential for personal growth."

"One time I was preparing for a presentation for a nutrition class with a group of my colleagues and one of them criticized my work and my ability to present the information. I asked my colleague to have a private conversation with her and I explained to her that I came from a different academic background where I did not have the chance to do a lot of presentations so I asked for her help to prepare me for the presentation and she accepted to help me. We aced the presentation and now she is one of my closest friends, we study together all the time."

Does your family support your pursuit of a career in pharmacy?

"My family is incredibly proud of me for going into pharmacy. My father is especially keen as he graduated from MCPHS University. My parents and older brother live in the area, so I will have a robust and encouraging support system should I be accepted into MCPHS University."

But recently, I've been searching more on the Covid-19 cases, information of transmissions, percent of the infected population, and updates on vaccines and statistics on people currently vaccinated."

"I normally check fiercepharma.com it gives you everything about pharmacy from FDA decisions to new drugs. Just recently I read there that the UK is the first country to make a covid pill."

What are you reading right now?

"Currently, I am reading 'Ego is the Enemy' by Ryan Holiday. It is a book about ambition, resilience, and success. I feel that everyone should read it - it comes highly recommended."

Your interviewers are not only interested in knowing if you exercise your mind, but they're curious about what kind of reading material you prefer and why. They're primarily interested in discerning what your choices say about you. Make sure the materials you offer are of a collegiate reading level or higher since they're looking for insights into your personality, emotional maturity, professionalism, and intellectualism. If you're reading multiple things simultaneously, don't hold that back. However, if you're not currently reading anything because you've been devoting your attention to other priorities, there's nothing wrong with admitting that. "I am an avid marathon runner and have traveled to 10 countries in the last three years to compete in various races. I am a competitive individual and enjoy keeping fit. I believe my competitive nature will benefit me as a student and future pharmacist. I will have a consistent drive to deliver my best work while showing an innate need to remain top-of-the-game as a provider."

What kind of research did you conduct that led you to apply to our university of pharmacy?

"I researched several schools before applying to MCPHS University. I started by interviewing some alumni I know and spoke with a couple of your current students in the pharmacy program. Last year I attended the open house here as well. Your school left a very positive impression on me, which is why I chose to apply here."

"If I could meet anyone in the history of medicine, I would go back to the very beginning and meet Hippocrates. I find it fascinating that he was the first person ever to believe that disease and death were not a result of the anger of gods. I would ask him about the first conversation when he said that disease is not caused by superstitious beliefs. He would have had to have faced so many roadblocks, yet, he continued to believe in his work."

"If I could meet someone, it would be Mendel; being a founding father of genetics, I think he would be a super fascinating and interesting person to meet. Choosing him would be because he contributed a lot to develop into what science and healthcare professions are today. Without him, I'm sure health technology wouldn't be as efficient also, knowledge of our genetics and genomes wouldn't be as advanced."

"If I could meet anyone in the history of medicine, I would go back to the very beginning and meet Alexander Flemming. I find it fascinating that he was able to discover bacteria-destroying mold which he would call penicillin in 1928, paving the way for the use of antibiotics in modern healthcare and he was granted a noble prize for that."

What area of pharmacology do you enjoy most and which is your least favorite?

"At this point in my studies, I am most interested in Clinical Pharmacology as I have always had a passion for research and new developments. The area of pharmacology that I find to be my least favorite so far is Pharmacogenetics. I have not excelled in genetic drug responses; however, I have hired a tutor to ensure my grades remain above average regardless of my natural interest."

Their programs and areas of study include Pharmaceutical Business, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Regulatory Affairs, and Pharmaceutical Economics and Health Policy.Additionally, when offering your least favorite area, maintain a positive attitude towards that aspect of pharmacy. You want to come across as ready, capable, and willing to perform every aspect of your future job, even the parts you like least. Additionally, explain why. For most people, their reasons align with their dominant behavioral traits, that of being an introvert and enjoying more analytical tasks or being an extrovert and enjoying more human interaction. Even when you have a preference, try to strike a balance between both spheres.

"Right now, I would say that overall pharmacology, which includes pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, is my passion and one of the main reasons I'm applying to pharmacy school. Still, I would say that I'm quite interested in focusing on cancer therapy pills and endocrine pharmacology. The least favorite for the time would maybe be translational pharmacy."

"I believe the most important quality for a pharmacist to possess is integrity. A pharmacist with integrity is a medical professional who will always put their patients and customers first. They will relentlessly ensure proper care and dosing for all and that their patients receive the best drug options available. Integrity is essential, so I am actively working on increasing my integrity level in various personal and professional situations. I show integrity by keeping my appointments and commitments and fulfilling my promises."

When reading through them, you'll find the common denominator among these is the emphasis they place on community. "Our number one goal as an institution is to best serve our community."The interviewer wants to see that you have some insight into the desired qualities and characteristics of a pharmacist and if you share their worldview on this topic. Not only do you want to provide a unique answer, but you want to align your sincere statement with theirs.

"A Pharmacist should have these three qualities, such as responsible, organized, and knowledgeable. I want to have those qualities to be a successful pharmacist."

"By shadowing my cousin who is a pharmacist for a period of two weeks and witnessed her treating her patients. It is the care that she shows to patients, and the trust she gains from them in return that made me confident that pharmacy is the path I want to take. So I think that reliability is a large umbrella that includes many traits such as organization, competence, and responsibility. A successful pharmacist embodies all of these qualities to ensure that patients are healthy and well cared for."

Why should we accept you into our college over another equally qualified student?

"I believe I am the strongest student for your pharmacy program because I am incredibly dedicated to my professional and personal development. Since beginning my undergraduate program, I have committed to taking a personal development workshop twice per year. The topics have included communication, personability, multi-tasking, organization, and even persuasive writing. I plan to take these skills and apply them to my graduate studies. I have demonstrated dedication to this profession, as evidenced by my work outside the classroom. I regularly seek out additional educational opportunities ensuring that I continue gaining new knowledge related to pharmacy."

"I will improve the pharmacy profession by skills professionalism cultural and ethnic influences. myself being a Hispanic Puerto Rican I have a lot of cultural and ethnic background which has given me a lot of diversity. firstly I wish to improve the pharmacy profession through communication myself being bilingual I will help by making sure that miscommunication would not be a barrier. Other ways that I could improve the pharmacy profession would be by respecting every religious belief cultural and ethnic belief that can maybe present when pursuing this profession. Myself being off a racial mix I believe that every patient should be treated equally no matter race color or belief. I think respecting the patient's and coworker's cultural and ethnic backgrounds while efficient communication is the best way of adding diversity trust clarity and professionalism to improve the pharmacy profession."

"When I was young, I was extremely close to my grandfather and I used to spend a lot of time with him watching sports together. When I was at the age of 13, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and I lost him in the same year. The person who had helped my grandfather the most during this tough year was a pharmacist. To be honest, I was so young to understand what was happening with my grandfather from a medical point of view but I remember very well how much my grandfather used to trust him. I was quite interested to hear that the government has agreed to pay $1.95 billion for these additional doses. Of course, the hope is that these additional doses will help us to protect more individuals and end this pandemic more rapidly."

"The last pharma-related article that I could read what about the oxford vaccines. What I learned was how these trials work. I analyzed the graphs on how people reacted to vaccines, and it showed patients that actually don't felt anything, others muscle pain, and lastly, patients that felt very tired and feel like they were coming to a cold. One significant impact that has interested me most is how we dispense medications, ranking particular meds based on importance. During COVID-19, pharmacists have experienced detrimental drug shortages due to manufacturing and transportation challenges. In the future, I believe pharmacists will have to revisit their distribution model and how they approach collaborating with biotech and pharmaceutical companies. "Other universities that I have applied to that are not MCPHS are the University of Florida and NOVA. "Yes, I am aware of malpractice cases in the pharmaceutical field, and it can be disheartening to hear these stories. Although I would be diligent with my best work, perfection is not guaranteed, and mistakes happen. If I faced a situation of negligence or wrongdoing, I would take full responsibility for my part in the situation. I would defend my expertise and decision-making skills at the same time. The best thing any medical professional can do is try their best every day, document their actions clearly, and choose to work with colleagues that you trust."

Malpractice is a hot topic in the field of pharmacy. From class action lawsuits against large chain pharmacies regarding the opioid epidemic and improperly prescribed drugs to improperly filled prescriptions or failure to advise a patient on the long-term side effects, there are many ways one could make themself vulnerable. Pharmacists need to be at the top of their game, have strong attention to detail, protect the health of their patients, and be meticulous in their work ethic. If in my case, I'm sued, and every evidence acts on that I did it; then I will assume the responsibility. But I will always make sure that every decision that I make, labeling dispensing or anything related that needs to be done correctly through the pharmacy profession, will be correctly done and within the ethical and law guidelines."

"Should I not be accepted into your pharmacy program the first time, I plan to reapply the following year. I would take the year to upgrade any required courses and prepare an even stronger application. My life's goal is to become a pharmacist, and I certainly won't take one rejection as a final answer."

When you suffer a setback, how does that emotionally impact your work?

"Experiencing a setback is always disappointing and can be very disheartening, especially when involving a project that I have put a lot of time and effort into. I understand that setbacks happen to everyone - despite their level of expertise or years of experience. If I experience a major setback, I will take a few moments to debrief internally, get some fresh air if possible, or discuss what I could have done differently with a mentor. Then, I move on. Rather than dwell on my mistakes, I choose to learn from them."

The key to this question is discussing how your setbacks emotionally impact your work. A pharmaceutical professional needs to keep a clear head at all times, especially when the slightest mistake could impact the care they give their patients. This requires a degree of emotional maturity. They don't expect you to be a robot. Having emotions is fine as long as they don't have you. As a pharmacist, you can't allow your emotions to impact your work. Describe how you navigate such situations with emotional intelligence. Everyone handles the stress and disappointment of setbacks differently. Share with them how you typically cope with setbacks when you experience them while maintaining your focus with professional diligence.

"Setbacks are very common and impact everyone uniquely. One setback I can recall was when I scored 50% on my first chemistry exam. I did some deep thinking about why I did poorly and made a smart decision to not drop out of the class. I decided to be very persistent and pay close attention to my studies. In the end, I got a B in the class which I was very happy with."

At that point, I was so discouraged and I felt that I will not make it to the pharmacy school ever. But then I did some deep thinking about why I did poorly and I refused to quit and I decided to believe in myself again and work hard to increase my GPA. I repeated all the classes that I did poorly on. I have succeeded to increase my GPA from 2.92 to 3.62. Now I am very proud of myself that I did not give up and that I fought for my dream and here I am having an interview with one of the best pharmacy schools."

How would you describe a day on the job of a pharmacist?

"I understand that my day-to-day responsibilities as a pharmacist will include speaking with customers, helping them understand their dosages, and answering many of the same questions. I know it won't always be glamorous, and it can be physically taxing as there is a lot of standing during the day. With that said, I look forward to coaching my customers on proper drug use and dosages and creating lasting relationships with those in the community where I work."

How skilled are you in recognizing and responding to the signs of prescription drug abuse?

"I understand that prescription drug abuse is an epidemic and that, as a pharmacist, I must be diligent in recognizing the signs of abuse in my customers/patients. I have researched this social issue a great deal. I know that some of the signs include a patient being adamant about receiving a certain brand of drug, doctor-hopping, and even forging doctor's prescriptions. I will be committed during my career to diligence and awareness of this social issue."

There is a great deal of responsibility associated with the role of a pharmacist. One of the darker and more unfortunate sides of this is identifying signs of drug abuse and addiction. Since this is a legal hot topic and can be disheartening for pharmacists to deal with, your interviewers want to know if you've mentally prepared yourself for this professional expectation and whether it would influence your career choice. Show them you're emotionally prepared and professionally capable of recognizing the signs of drug dependency. As with any question in this set, perform ample research before your interview and arrive prepared.

"Ways that signs of drug abuse can be detected could be by spotting abnormal behaviors, false doctor's prescription, or trying to bribe on a controlled medication. I will always handle the situation very professionally, I would primarily seek the patient and counsel him about getting some therapy and making sure that he understands what he is doing and how this affects his body, and also how illegal his act is. Also, I will be very responsible in making sure to advise every patient when given a medication that may cause addiction to give them my trust to them."

"Signs of drug abuse could be spotting abnormal behaviors, false doctor's prescriptions, or trying to bribe on a controlled medication. I will always handle situations of potential drug abuse very professionally. I would counsel the patient about getting therapy, making sure that they understood what they were doing, how it would affect their body, and how illegal the act is. Also, I will be very responsible for advising and educating every patient who has been prescribed a potentially addictive medication. I will be committed during my career to diligence and awareness of this social issue."

Tell us about your GPA. How do you feel about it, and what are you aiming for next?

"I feel that my GPA could have been higher; however, I was working full time while attending classes. All in all, I did learn a lot about discipline and commitment."

"I am partially happy with my Current GPA, I could have done better, but I learned that there is a way to improve my grades in my next journey. I was working full-time to support myself financially and also I switched from semester to quarter system when I was in undergrad school. In general, I was challenged by the school system and personal finance so that I believe I have all the strength to face anything for my future dream career."

"Currently, I have a GPA of 3.62 out of 4.3. You can see that I finished my last undergraduate with only 2.01 out of 4. I am very proud of my self-improvement and look forward to improving and thriving more in MCPHS."

Walk us through your approach to studying for exams.

"I am a well-organized student and have created a plan that works well for me. When I prepare for an exam, I map out the content I need to learn and divide that content over the number of days I have available to prepare. When I create a study calendar, I leave the final three days leading up to the exam to review the entire library of content. I am a big fan of study aids, as I believe they work much better than simply reading and re-reading the materials. Aids such as flashcards are much more helpful to me than highlighting my notes. I also create practice problems and, when possible, pair up with a fellow student to test each other in written form or verbal lightning rounds. My approach has been successful, as reflected in my overall GPA."

"During my university years, I have come up with a plan that works very well for me. For example, in my Anatomy course, I organized the material by making flashcards. I divided the material by structure, origin, insertion, and action. In addition to that, I have organized study sessions with my friends to quiz each other. The most effective method for me is when I teach my friend the materials. While earning my PharmD, I also plan to include time management tools such as study calendars and to-do lists. In addition to that, I am planning to form study groups and make connections with my colleagues and professors which will make the journey much easier and more fun."

"I am very proud of my achievements during my undergrad education. Those courses added so much value that I will bring to my graduate program. My best grades were always in my chemistry courses. I feel that I excelled in these because they are related to pharmacology, which I am interested in. I can improve my time management. I overextended myself last semester with volunteer opportunities, and my study time suffered slightly. Now that I have identified the reason behind my time management challenges, I will only see improvement moving forward."

"I want to say confidently that I have accomplished my undergrad education. I chose to learn human biology major for my undergrad that allow me to prepare for my next journey. I was comfortable and confident when I learned chemistry and mathematics. I have better grades on these courses than other subjects which will help me quickly learn pharmacology. In terms of improvement, I want to develop my time management skill. When I was studying my undergrad program, I transferred from semester school to quarter system school. I was dealing with a ton of school works in a short amount of time, so it was a bit struggle for me to adapt the quarter system. However, I have figured out the reason why I struggled so that I will see possible improvements in my time management."

"I am now completing my second undergraduate degree in Exercise science after having my first degree in Biology. With Biology, I learned more about the human body and its composition, and how it functions. On the other hand, with exercise science, I learned more about the anatomy of the human body and muscle movements. I believe my education so far has been the perfect stepping stone to the MCPHS pharmacy program. My poor performance in my first undergraduate degree was due to the fact that I was struggling with the language. I am an Arabic educated student and I learned English later in life. I used to translate every single word in order to understand the materials which required from me a lot of work and put me at a big disadvantage compared with my colleagues who did not have that problem. I am very proud that I overcame this big challenge and with the big improvement that I made during my second undergraduate degree. One area of growth will be believing in myself more. "I feel the most concerning issue in the pharmaceutical industry is the continual rise of drug prices. The best medications should be accessible to anyone, regardless of financial or social status. There has been a rising concern with big pharma creating drugs and pricing them so high that they are unattainable to most. What do you feel are the most concerning issues facing the pharmaceutical industry today?"

There is a wide range of concerns facing the pharmacy industry and pharmacists. Your interviewers are interested in learning your thoughts on this topic, your concerns, and your motivation to solve some of these issues once you start your career. "In my opinion, the biggest concern for pharmacists will be the breakthrough of technological advancement. Nowadays, technology is improving day to day life so that advanced technology will replace most of the workforces. Most jobs will be done by very few pharmacists, which will reduce job opportunities. Advanced technology will use online prescriptions, so pharmacy stores will not hire pharmacists. Therefore, job availability for pharmacist may gradually be reduced."

"The biggest problem facing pharmacists right now is the increase in the cost of drugs. Drugs should be accessible to everyone. If the price keeps going up, it makes it difficult for the average man to afford the medication he needs."

"In my opinion, an honorable person will do what is right, even when nobody is looking. The pharmaceutical industry deserves only honorable graduates. For that reason, I would tell a superior if I found a classmate to be cheating."

The interviewers need assurance that you are ready and willing to meet their ethical standards. They'll study your choice of words, body language, and nonverbal cues to determine the sincerity of your answer. "I would do the most reasonable thing, I would tell the professor or some other supervisor. I believe that cheating should not be tolerable and it is essential to have honorable students in this institution in order for it to train effective pharmacists."

"To find the fastest, you need to run all 25 horses at least once, and since you can only race five horses at a time, you need a minimum of 25/5 = 5 races. Then you need to compare the winners of these races, which means a sixth race is necessary."

This brain teaser tests and observes your analytical skills in real time. It will also help them determine your strengths as an analytical or interpersonal thinker, depending on how you go about teasing apart your answer.Try answering the question at home before looking up the answer. Vocalize your answer as you attempt to problem solve it to practice your communication skills. Whether or not you find the answer to the question before the interview is beside the point. You want to go through the whole problem-solving process, communicating clearly when this question is posed.

How do you react when you encounter a roadblock in your studies?

"When I have encountered academic difficulty in the past, I have recognized the issue early and approached my professor for additional information or study resources. With these resources, I would either increase the time spent reviewing the class material or engage another person to increase my understanding of the topic. For instance, during my biophysical chemistry class this year, I fell behind as we approached the subject of molecular interactions. To ensure my success, I hired a Department of Chemistry tutor. This approach was beneficial, and I gained a much clearer understanding of the subject, which helped my grade a great deal. Should I encounter any difficulties while attending this pharmacy program, I will not hesitate to seek outside assistance."

"A time that I have encountered academic difficulty would be on my first semester of college, where I experienced hurricane Maria. It was a horrible natural disaster. It left me without power service and water service for months. When this happened after I was helping the neighbors with water and supplies, I had to start the University curriculum, and it wasn't easy. Still, I can say that I reacted in the most responsible way that I could with adjusting my academic performance by doing what I mentioned before time management. I had to study more through the days because I did not have power during the night, so I had to study more at university because it was the only place where they would save power plants to study. I even had to go through tutoring because since I had so little time to study in comparison to a normal education time, especially because I wasn't doing very good in the chemistry class, so I had to do this to make it possible to pass this class which I did with a B. The most important thing to do was to be very persistent and committed to successfully complete the semester."

"I have formed a three-pronged plan to tackle the stressors that may occur during my pharmaceutical program. These three approaches will address my academic stress, the emotional strain of adjusting to my new surroundings as I relocate, and the financial strain associated with high tuition. For academic stress, I plan to create a study schedule that I will stick to closely. I will join study groups to gain a broader perspective from others, and I have made arrangements for a part-time tutor if needed. For the strain that will result from uprooting myself, I have planned to join a couple of university clubs to get to know other students and make new friends, avoiding feelings of loneliness. I also plan to FaceTime my family every week to prevent myself from feeling homesick. The financial commitment to becoming a pharmacist is a reality that I have come to terms with. I have created a solid financial plan to pay back my loans, and I enlisted a financial advisor to help me create a student budget that I will adhere to closely. I feel well-prepared to cope with and address the immense workload and other expectations ahead of me as a pharmacy school student."
