"I believe that the biggest culprit of reputation crisis today remains an unclear vision. When a company seems to be split on their vision, their talking points, and their overall brand, that will be a significant weak spot. The moment something goes awry, this weak spot will grow and threaten the health of the company in its entirety."

The interviewer would like to understand what you believe to be the biggest driver of crisis for companies, today. Discuss how you feel the digital age has affected the way companies are viewed in the public eye. You could also address common factors that you see when it comes to reputations threats, today.

"In today's digital age, I believe the biggest culprit of a reputation crisis is lack of planning when it comes to the social media and social networking side of a business. The internet is forever, and many companies still do not have clear branding and messaging strategy when it comes to their online footprint. These days, all it takes is one bad tweet that is misconstrued by the public, and a company could be facing a firestorm online."

Are you applying for any other jobs?

"I am keeping an eye out for viable positions. Although I am not in the final stages with any other company, I am actively seeking a new position."

The interviewer would like to know if they will need to compete with other companies when it comes to hiring you. It always puts a little bit of fire under the hiring manager if they are aware that you are actively looking for a new position. Tell the interviewer about your search so far without disclosing every single detail.

"I am applying to other jobs, and am actively interviewing. I do have a strong interest in your role and am wondering what your timeline looks like for the next round of interviews?"

Besides compensation, what do you value the most in the workplace?

"What I value most in the workplace are growth opportunities. I am missing this in my current role and very much look forward to working with a company who will provide me with bigger moves as I prove myself."

Financial compensation aside, the interviewer would like to know what is most important to you when looking for a new job. Your answer will show the interviewer some direction when they are ready to make you an offer of employment. You can talk about health benefits, work-life balance, workplace culture, growth, or even continued education opportunities. The sky is the limit!

"For me, the room for creativity and a flexible workspace is significant. This flex could include a great office where it's easy to collaborate, or the ability to work from home when needed."

Have you ever broken a confidentiality agreement?

"I never have, to my knowledge, broken a confidentiality agreement. Despite my reasons for leaving a position, I would never choose to hurt a previous employer in any way."

Yext will have confidentiality agreements for a variety of reasons. These could be to protect their trade secrets or to ensure that you do not bring clients over on the occasion that you leave their company. Talk to the interviewer about your thoughts on confidentiality agreements.

"Confidentiality agreements are necessary and important to protect an organization. I understand the need for confidentiality and take those factors very seriously. I have never broken the trust of my employer."

What is the worst thing a previous manager could say about you?

"When I started my most recent job I had a pretty big learning curve. The software and my daily tasks were all very new to me. I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning because I felt rushed and wanted to learn as quickly as I could. My manager suggested I slow down and not worry so much about keeping up with the people who had been there for a while. He was understanding, and it helped me to learn that it's okay to take my time to avoid mistakes."

Nobody is a perfect employee! Think about some mistakes you have made at work or any suggestions for improvement received. If a manager were to provide you with feedback or criticism, what might they say? Keep your answer brief and be sure to finish on a positive note by discussing your willingness to improve and take constructive feedback.

"The most critical thing a manager could say might be that I need to thicken up my skin a little. I always want to learn and improve, so I take comments very seriously and to heart when they come from someone I respect. Occasionally, this can dampen my morale when negative feedback is said. I know that I need to work on taking their feedback in stride. I already work on incorporating it immediately; I need to skip the middle step of letting it bring me down or letting others notice that it has brought me down."

Have you ever received a negative review from a customer?

"I once received feedback that I am not as 'warm' as I could be when talking on the phone. That feedback came as a surprise to me but, I took it to heart, regardless. I worked on implementing more casual conversation in my client calls and remember to keep a smile on my face as well. I have not heard this feedback since."

Everyone has had a negative review from someone at one point in their career. What the interviewer would like to see is that you can bounce back professionally from a negative customer review. If the review was warranted, discuss what you were able to learn from the experience or the feedback that you received.

"My agency as a whole has received very few negative client reviews. We did have an upset client a few months ago and, unfortunately, I was the project manager for that particular account. The client felt that we could have delivered our work faster, even though we did not miss a single deadline. I took this review into account and am now sure to outline client expectations at the start of each project."

Do you consider yourself a persuasive person?

"I can be persuasive when it comes to helping my clients to understand the logic, or reason, behind a decision that my company has made. It's important to lay out the intentions of any change and then express the importance of those changes."

Part of being an excellent communicator is also having the power of persuasion when necessary. There is a difference between persuasion and debating - or even convincing. Persuasion is used when you want to influence someone rather than tell them that they are wrong, and you are right. The power of persuasion is essential if you are selling or pitching anything. It is also a helpful skill when you want to gain momentum with your coworkers or have your boss better understand your approach on a project. It is not a negative thing to be persuasive. Talk to the interviewer about whether or not you consider yourself to be a persuasive individual.

"Persuasion and digital marketing methods go hand in hand so, yes, I believe that I am a persuasive person. My approach is not sly or combative in any way, however. I go about persuading others by displaying how my approach, or belief, could benefit the other party. In my case at work, the client."

What is the key to quickly developing trust with a company under crisis?

"I believe the key to developing trust with a company under crisis is to show them that you have empathy for their situation, but that you are the expert in getting them out of muddy waters. It's important to show understanding, yet hold your position as the subject-matter expert. Similar to how a physician would demand presence and show confidence when meeting a patient for the first time, so would I show that confidence in my work, knowledge, and expertise."

When Yext takes on a client who needs help with crisis or reputation management, they need to know that you will be able to build trust quickly so that you can make quick progress on their needs. Discuss how you plan to develop confidence with companies who find themselves in a vulnerable position, needing your assistance.

"I think the best first step to developing trust with a company under crisis is to show them immediately that I have done my homework on their situation. Before our first meeting, I would brief myself on absolutely everything I would need to know to make well-educated comments and suggestions. This genuine interest in their needs will almost always be enough to build a foundation of trust."

What are the advantages of hiring a public relations firm?

"The biggest advantages of hiring a firm such as Yext include the existing media contacts that you can offer a client, which they will likely not have. Getting ahead of the press is often the biggest key to recovering from a crisis and an independent PR firm will always be much better at this. Also, an agency like Yext will be able to be more objective when it comes to problem-solving, as they are not personally involved in the daily operations."

Not every company will be large enough to have an internal PR department, which is often where companies like Yext come into play. There are a plethora of advantages to hiring brand reputation help, such as the ability to find experts in your particular sector, rather than a generalist. Also, an excellent PR service will be more neutral and objective when it comes to crisis or reputation management. "I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to manage several brand tracking surveys. These experiences have allowed me to understand better the measures to track to ensure a clients' brand is healthy. With one particular client, we were able to measure the damage to its brand after a product recall took place. Through the data, I was able to define what aspects or topics needed to be addressed in a public relations campaign to mitigate further brand damage."

Brand development is ongoing as clients' industries and customer preferences change. Tracking brands allow Yext's clients to monitor customers' and the general public's perception of their brand. In doing so, it gives them the opportunity to make adjustments to the strategies they have in place.Talk about how any experiences you may have had with the tracking process, whether from analytical or strategic perspectives. Include a specific example of what was learned from the brand tracking process and how it affected the strategic changes made.

"In my past positions, I have taken a strategic role in working with brand tracking data. My experiences included opportunities to make strategic decisions based on learnings from brand tracking studies. Through one particular tracking study, we learned that customers did not perceive that my client had a strong bond to the community. Because of this finding, I initiated a campaign to highlight my client's work with non-profits in the area. I believe my ability to synthesize the data and translate it into actionable steps will help Yext better serve their clients. "

In your opinion, what is the most influential form of media today?

"I feel that the most influential form of media today is social media and online content. As a whole, the human race wants fast, easy to consume, entertainment news. Our rate of consumption is unprecedented, and the fastest way to access it is through online content sharing."

Have a meaningful conversation with the interviewer on media influence. With so many forms of media out there, which do you feel is the most influential at the moment? Be sure to back your answer.

"There are many important forms of media today - so many, in fact, that people seem to be getting overwhelmed. I would still say that traditional media, in the form of television and the daily news, is at the top when it comes to the number of people influenced and the quality of the content being distributed."

Yext has worked with some of its clients on their content marketing strategy, which is an essential aspect of brand development. What role do you think content marketing plays in developing brands?

"I have witnessed firsthand the importance of having a solid content marketing strategy in place. Content marketing allows you to make a connection with your target audience through educational information. A company's ability to provide content valuable to readers boosts its reputation as an expert on that particular topic. The content should be related to the products and services the client offers. Also, clients should tie their offerings into the content without losing the authentic nature of the piece by taking a strong sales tone."

It is vital that team members at Yext understand the purpose and importance of a well-defined content marketing strategy. Hiring managers at Yext want to see that you know that effective content marketing builds more than awareness of a client's brand.In your response, convey your understanding of the purpose of content marketing which is to build a positive online reputation for a client's brand. "Content marketing's purpose should be both to increase the visibility of a brand and to build up a client's reputation. Also, companies should look to create value for the audience by providing educational information. The value provided to the target customers creates a connection and builds up the company's reputation from their perspective. Content marketing takes brands a step further beyond awareness."

Research is an integral part of the brand development process. What is your analytical experience as it relates to brands?

"I am excited about the possible opportunity to put my brand analytical skills to use to meet the brand development needs of Yext's clients. My previous projects have allowed me to gain extensive experience in evaluating and monitoring clients' brands. Through my analyses, I have been able to identify opportunities for clients to improve their brand positions, online. My brand analytical experience helps me determine what measures need to be looked at to make careful brand development decisions."

Yext is looking for candidates with some level of brand analytical experience. Your experience may be related to any phase of the branding process, as long as it is relevant to brand development or brand reputation.

"As an active team member on a brand development team, I was tasked with making recommendations on target customers and providing analytics to support them. While working towards developing my recommendations, I learned the importance of 'telling a story' through the analyses. The ability to look at 'the numbers' and build a 'story' is an important skill to have in the brand development process as it can help Yext's clients make the necessary strategic brand decisions."

In your opinion, what is the best practice for handling bad press?

"I believe the best practice for handling bad online reviews is to create a consistent message and image for the public to absorb. Generally, this would the be CEO or another leader of the company, who posts positive and consistent messages, online. Despite the crisis, this person should remain focused on the positive aspects of their company by speaking to its strengths."

Yext works very hard for their clients, ensuring that any online crisis, is handled with professionalism and suave. The interviewer would like to see that you are on the same page as Yext when it comes to helping their clients manage their reputation online.

"Many companies have recovered very well from an initially poor online reputation, and the common factor seems to be getting ahead of the bad press. One step could be to push negative reviews and bad comments away from page one, using SEO techniques. Another would be to call the media and get your talking points out before they can turn a negative situation into a full-blown crisis. This effort could including putting together a list of potential questions, and having key members of the company practice answering those specific sets of questions."

How do you believe social media has changed the public relations game?

"Social media has changed the PR game in every imaginable way. Social media has entirely changed how companies communicate with their target customers and vice versa. Communication through traditional advertising used to mean one-way communication, and social media has changed it to be a two-way street. Now, customers can engage with any brand by liking, sharing and commenting. This engagement means more real-time data for companies, on how their content is performing, allowing them to quickly steer away from a potentially ineffective, or even damaging campaign."

Social media has changed the way we do nearly everything in business, and the interviewer would like to know the ways you believe it's had the most significant impact when it comes to public relations and branding. Yext is well known for providing expertise in brand relations and online reputation so it will be vital for you to show your depth of knowledge on the topic of social media.

"I believe that social media has forced companies to look at the flaws in their customer service, and customer engagement strategies. Social media now ensures companies build genuine customer relationships through conversation. Today, customers can take to Twitter to report bad customer experiences, for instance. This action means companies must address complaints immediately."

What is your favorite data management tool at the moment?

"There are many amazing tools available for data management, and new options coming out all the time. Right now, I appreciate Power BI from Microsoft. It is a powerful business analytics service, and I love the interactive visualizations and intelligence capabilities. I love to learn about new choices in data management tools. Could you share with me your current favorite?"

This question offers an excellent opportunity for you to discuss the tools that you use in the workplace, and also to learn about new tools of which you may not be aware. Discuss which data management tools are your favorite at this time and if you are comfortable, ask the interviewer about theirs in return.

"Collibra is a tool that I currently use daily and one that has made my job significantly easier in many aspects. The tool is related more to data governance, allowing me to access and control data in a way I never thought possible. Are you familiar with the program? I would be happy to hear of any other recommendations you have as well."

Do you have experience giving product demonstrations, and closing new accounts?

"In my current role, I give a product demonstration a few times a month. Although it is not my primary job function; I know our applications and software inside and out, so that I can jump in and help anytime. I am comfortable giving presentations and can explain challenging tech to people with little technical experience easily."

At Yext, you may be required to walk clients through the ins and outs of their data, helping them to understand how to decipher the data and then use it to their benefit. Working for a company that offers a digital solution means that you will be tech savvy and able to teach others how to use Yext products correctly. Walk the interviewer through any experience you have giving demonstrations, and working with potential new clients.

"In my current role, I give product demonstrations to potential new clients, a few times a week. Once our sales team has primed the client to buy, it's my job to show off the product features, overcome any tech related objections, and then close the deal."

Explain data visualization, and why it is important to a business.

"I understand data visualization to be the art of showing essential data in an easy to absorb way. It is crucial to a business because what good is having all the data and analytics from your company if you do not understand it? Once a company can visualize and understand their most important data, they can then use that to leverage further success, and make critical business decisions related to their online branding and reputation."

Data visualization is 'an effort to help people understand the significance of data by placing it in a visual context.' Since Yext focus' on business intelligence software focused on helping their customers to understand essential data, the interviewer needs to know that you see the significance in their business mission. Describe what you know data visualization to be, and why these services would be incredibly valuable to a business.

"I explain data visualization as helping businesses to understand their data through the use of tables, charts, and other visual aids. Data visualization allows companies to transform their data into actionable branding insights, so it is incredibly important."

In your opinion, what is the most exciting collaboration between data analysis and artificial intelligence in the past year?

"I have taken a keen interest in how artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms have been working together to optimize business workflows. The result appears to be better strategies for enterprises surrounding people management, effective operations, as well as culture and engagement."

If you are up to date on the trends and happenings between data analysis and AI, you should have no problem answering this question. Discuss an exciting collaboration, project, or product release that you have heard of recently. Because this is an open-ended question, be careful not to ramble on.

"I recently read an article in Forbes on the top machine learning programs to watch. I was especially intrigued by a company called DataVisor which uses machine learning to uncover financial data issues, helping to protect against bank fraud, and other financial based criminal activity."

In your opinion, is data a true asset for a business. Why or why not?

"Since acquiring data comes with a significant cost, I believe it is fair to say then that data is an asset. Data can give precious insight into a company's operations, future scalability, and online brand reputation. By properly analyzing data, a company can open itself to millions in growth. For these reasons, I absolutely consider data to be a true business asset."

Many companies still struggle with the idea that their data is a real asset when it comes to their business. The interviewer would like to know that, if a client asked you about the importance of their data, that you would give a well-thought-out and appropriate response. Share with the interviewer why data is indeed an asset.

"It is interesting to me that this idea is still in question with some of the clients with which I work. I recently read a study claiming that 36% of businesses lack the tools needed to extract and analyze the information and data that they have. When a client asks me if their data is valuable, I always reply with a hearty 'yes!' It is expensive to gather data, but also more costly to never analyze your data."

What is pervasive business intelligence, and what does it mean to you?

"To me, pervasive business intelligence means that information is widely spread through a group of employees, allowing them to have access to business data and intelligence, freely. I believe that PBI is an excellent practice as it fosters a positive workplace culture and helps employees to feel empowered."

Pervasive business intelligence, or Pervasive BI as it's often referred to, is a business' practice of empowering employees by allowing open access to information, and essential responsibilities around decision making. This practice is known to generate beneficial results for companies and also supports a positive company culture. As we all know - an excellent brand reputation begins from within. Talk about the term Pervasive BI, and what it should mean to Yext's clients who are building their online brand reputation.

"I was recently reading an article on pervasive business intelligence, where a popular survey showed that over 80% of senior employees and leaders wanted data and business information to be more accessible to them, in the workplace. The concept may be a new conversation to many, but it's an important one."

Tell me the difference between white-hat and black-hat SEO.

"I strive to use quality, 'White Hat' methods to create lasting results for my clients. These lasting results begin with creating quality content on-page, which will attract consumers and generate quality, grassroots back-links. Although in the past, it was possible to produce most of your backlinks or even pay for them, that method is no longer favorable within Google algorithms."

As an employee of Yext, you will be expected to act ethically in all circumstances. The lingo of SEO refers to ethical optimization practices as 'White Hat' and unethical practices as 'Black Hat.' The interviewer will want to gauge your knowledge of the difference between the two and ensure you will be using only quality techniques and methods.

"Google and other search engines provide SEO communities with plenty of information on how their search engines work and what they are looking for in a web page to rank higher in SERPs. Following their techniques and best practices are simple 'White Hat' methods of SEO. Trying to cheat their system is 'Black Hat.' To me, cheating the system is extremely dangerous and can result in the delisting of your website from Google's search engine."

How could a business use the data visualization services of Yext to prospect and generate new leads?

"I see that Yext offers a service which allows its users to gain insights on social and web analytics, combining them with current customer data. This service would be excellent for finding and then targeting a specific customer base. The more a business knows about their existing clients' habits, the better they can use that information for targeting new clientele."

The interviewer would like to see that you are familiar with the services of Yext. It's vital that you research their offering, and be ready to discuss which of their services a company could use to benefit their sales pipeline and prospecting capabilities.

"A business could use the data visualization services of Yext in a multitude of ways. It is much easier to target new customers and prospect the right kind of leads, when you can act with confidence, based on real analytics and numbers. I especially appreciate the marketing analytics services that Yext offers."

As you may know, we help clients plan online brand strategies from start to finish. What do you believe are the critical stages of creating and implementing plans in digital strategy to ensure their success?

"The stages of planning in a digital brand strategy include goal-setting to ensure your plan aligns the business objectives, assessment, market research, budgetary, and timeline planning. These stages are the foundation, and once your plan is in action, you will test and analyze results to make changes as needed. This is your monitoring stage, and it will be ongoing to ensure goals are met. Lastly, I believe the first step, assessing business objectives, to be the most important."

Based on your experience, describe the different phases of digital marketing planning that need to take place from start to finish.Don't elaborate too much on each phase because it will make your answer too long. You want to make your answer sound more conversational and less like you're reading a list. Answer each phase with just a couple of words, or one sentence each. Lastly, finish your answer with a brief description of which step is most important for your project to have success.

"When creating a digital marketing plan, I always start by defining goals. What are the plans for reaching them and how do they fit into the business as a whole? Next, audience research and planning takes place. This data drives decisions on advertising channels, content, and user experience plans. Market testing to see how the audience interacts with apps and ads typically will move me into the next phase of finalizing the plan, scheduling benchmarks, etc. Once it's in place, the last steps are to measure and analyze results."

Helping clients with their brand strategy is one of the first phases of brand development. How can your experience with brand strategies be of value when working with Yext's clients?

"My prior positions have given me the opportunity to work on brand strategy teams. My main role in these teams was providing analytical support for strategic decisions. In doing so, I was able to work with and learn from my teammates and also learn about the strategy building process. I am confident my experience gives me valuable perspectives on the process, which can help the strategy building phase for Yext's clients run more smoothly. Also, my strong analytical viewpoint gives me a great foundation on which to make strategic decisions."

Ensuring a client has a strong brand strategy is one of the first steps in successfully helping it develop its brand. Therefore, it is essential to Yext that its team members have experience in this area.As you respond to this question, talk about what role you took while working on brand strategies in prior positions. Specifically, address how you can bring value to Yext's client relationships concerning your experience with brand strategies.

"I had the fortunate opportunity to participate in a brand strategy team in a creative capacity. My role was to give input on how the company's brand was to be represented in advertisements and on social media. An important lesson I learned as part of this team is that members' roles are dependent on one another. It is important to understand the contribution everyone is making so you can better accomplish your tasks. I believe my ability to understand the various roles of a strategy team will help Yext's client work more productively and efficiently."

What are some common SEO mistakes you have seen and how have you avoided those mistakes?

"One SEO mistake I see often, is inexperienced individuals trying to increase rankings using spam. I have seen co-workers attempt to improve websites ranking by leaving multiple link-backs in comment sections of other sites. They also tried adding keywords into the text the same color as the website background, so that the human eye could not see it but the web server would read it as relevant information. These tricks worked for a while, but soon afterward, the Google algorithms found them out, and their rankings bottomed out. I always use ethical practices and keep a long term view in mind when making client recommendations."

Yext helps clients clean up their online branding, and part of this means having a solid message across all online channels. There are plenty of mistakes companies can make which will rank a website high in the short term but are considered 'cheating' and will hurt rankings once recognized by search engine algorithms. The interviewer will want to know that you can avoid these common mistakes and create a lasting, quality SEO foundation for your clients.

"Some of the biggest mistakes I have made in SEO come from falling behind on the latest information updates. SEO is an ever-changing business, and you need to adopt the attitude of a lifelong learner to have success. I spend about two hours per week researching the latest trends and algorithm updates. I visit seroundtable.com and searchengineland.com daily to stay updated on the latest SEO news. Occasionally I will attend webinars and seminars as well. All in all, I am well equipped to help your clients build a lasting online brand."

Great visualization will present data in a convincing way. How do you improve human perception when presenting data?

"I know that people are very visual so the bulk of presenting data convincingly, comes down the use of color, graphs, and animation. I like to work in small multiples so that the numbers and information I am sharing are easy to digest. A successful presentation is all about the visual layout and easy absorption of data."

The interviewer would like to know that you see the importance of positioning data in a convincing and easy-to-understand manner. As a business that relies heavily on client data and analytics, Yext knows that its customers will only purchase the services that they understand. Discuss with the interviewer how you improve human perception when it comes to presenting sets of data.

"I recently read a study on the fact that pie charts are difficult for people to quickly understand and calculate so now I use them sparingly when it comes to presenting data sets and other important information. I lean more towards line charts for tracking changes or showing trends over time. Then, bar charts when I am comparing data from a variety of categories. The use of colors and other visuals is critical, also."

Are you more comfortable in a startup environment, or with an established company?

"I have worked in both a startup environment, as well as a few highly established companies. Although I appreciate the organization that comes with a more established business, the energy of a startup can also drive me. I can succeed in either since I am self-driven; however, I can say that the energetic environment at Yext speaks to me."

The interviewer is interested in seeing if the environment at Yext is what you need to be successful. The best response is that you can thrive in a startup or an established company; however, that may not be the case. Think of the pros and cons of each. Working for an established company may feel more secure; however, it may also be more challenging to work your way up. Then, in a startup, you may have a lot of creative freedom, but the pay may not be as lucrative. Discuss with the interviewer the type of environment you are most comfortable with, remain positive, and draw in parts of the culture at Yext in your response.

"I have worked in a variety of environments and believe that I can thrive in each. With that said, I am more comfortable working for an established organization such as Yext where I can feel comfortable representing a proven strategy and system."

When have you led a team in creating a new online strategy or campaign? What was the outcome?

"I was once working on a large account where the client had been using the same strategies for a very long time. Their marketing team was all hard-to-convince, tenured employees who had success in the past. But as times were changing, they were losing traction. They didn't know what to do because it seemed their product remained the same, and as did their audience, but they were losing market share. They had been advertising on the same channels forever and somehow; they failed to notice their audience spending time on new platforms and adapting to new technologies. Rather than try to convince my clients with presentations, pie charts, and the traditional means, I gathered them together for interactive discussions. They all filled out forms about major purchases they'd made over the past five years, then shared them out loud. What we found from their stories was that in their personal lives, they had been receptive to new technology. For some reason, however, they believed their customers had not. Through this exercise, I connected them to the hard data I had to present and convinced them it was time to try new things."

The purpose of this question is to find out what your innovative potential is. It's also meant to uncover whether you have the necessary skills to drive change and influence various players involved in evolving online branding campaigns.When you answer this question, it might be tempting to rehash overhaul processes you've learned from past situations, but this is not what you want to do. You'll want to talk about your ideas and actions that have driven change.

"As a brand coordinator with a startup, I had noticed that our digital strategy did not involve enough paid promotion.
