Have you ever had to work with a difficult colleague? How did you handle that situation?

"Over the last two years in my escrow assistant role, I've worked alongside a fairly difficult colleague. They were often not very friendly and not a great communicator. Over time, I learned to just be myself and smile when I could tell they were in a bad mood. I tried to keep our conversations light and job-related but didn't hesitate to throw some humor and fun in once in a while to try and lighten their mood. Sometimes that was effective; other times, it was not. But I never let it ruin my day."

On top of that, he can get very upset following certain phone calls with clients. When first hired and paired with him, I was taken aback by his behavior and remained quiet. One day, at the advice of our manager, I talked to my colleague and told him that I would be very thankful if he could tone his voice down in our office and use healthier ways to handle anger on the job. I should've used this approach right away; he thanked me for the feedback and told me that his old officemate handled frustration in the same way. Once he knew I didn't care for that approach, he vowed to be better moving forward, and things are great now."

"I consider myself a great team player, and any of my current or past coworkers would echo that same thought. While I work great in teams, conflict among people is always inevitable, and I excel at working with difficult teammates. A couple of years ago, I was on a project team with a person who tried to take over meetings with their thoughts on processes moving forward and wouldn't budge for other people's ideas. After seeing a few of our team members become visibly frustrated during our first gathering, I took it upon myself to talk with this person face to face. The person became very confrontational and berated the other members of the team. I decided to wait and see how the next meeting the following week went. When the combative behavior continued, I approached the project lead the next day to see what could be done. While the difficult decision was made to remove that person from our project team, I had no regrets about the approach I took because it was good for the overall health of the team."

What is the greatest challenge you have faced in your career so far? How did you overcome it?

"Last year, during the third year of my program, I purposefully took 20 credits each semester to ensure that I graduated in four years. The year was very challenging; my work required my full attention, organization, and time management. At times, ensuring I got enough sleep was difficult, yet vital. Looking back, I learned so much about myself and my work ethic that I'm confident will help me on the job here at Truist."

To make this process smoother, I scheduled frequent updates with my team, peers, and leadership to ensure all deliverables were being met on time and the transition to new processes was handled with the utmost professionalism so as not to impact the level of service our clients received. It was a great learning experience for the entire organization."

How would you rate your ability to learn new software programs on a scale of 1 to 10?

"I would rate myself as an 8 out of 10 as I consider myself very computer literate. I learn best with a hands-on approach and understand it will take time to adapt to and learn the programs I would be working on in this role with Truist. Can you expand upon your training and orientation program and the expected time for a new team member in this role to be up and running on their own?"

In today's digital age, most bank transactions are handled through digital software. With permission from my manager, I drove the guest to their function and coordinated a local towing company to jump-start their car. I ran the vehicle for a bit to charge the battery, and a colleague and I delivered the vehicle to their work site. The guest was extremely pleased with our service, and my manager was happy with my actions that day to go the extra mile."

Instead, I took down the customer's contact information and told her I could contact the person who handled archived products. If we could track it down, I would be in touch. With a simple phone call, my colleague tracked the item down from the supplier and had it shipped directly. We put the customer in direct contact with the supplier, and she was happy. Looking back on that situation, I felt it was the right thing to do given the customer's situation and knowing she was a loyal customer."

"My current role in hospitality often requires me to work with high-profile customers. Last year, a touring manager for a musician contacted me regarding an upcoming stay for the musician. I proactively asked for their dining and entertainment preferences; with that list, I was able to work with our catering staff to ensure we had preferred items on the menus for the nights that he stayed and that we had a customized video game package in the musician's room for his extended stay. Before him leaving, his manager reached out to thank me for the great service!"

"During my high school and college years, I worked in retail and closely interacted with customers on their transactions and merchandise questions. In retail, it was vital to have a great knowledge of the products being sold, and I always took the time to learn everything about new products. "As part of my economics undergraduate program, I completed integral calculus and statistics during my first year. Math has always been a strong suit for me, and I know how it can become vital in a wealth management role with Truist."

While being a master of Excel, I picked up our sales software system very easily and don't see any reason why I would have any issues with easily transitioning to your software programs."

Talk about your experience in mortgage loan closing. How would this experience benefit our team?

"While I don't have direct hands-on experience in loan closing, I have great experience that prepared me to be very detailed in reviewing paperwork and communicating among many different parties. If I'm given this opportunity at Truist, I'm ready and willing to go the extra mile to train with your experience mortgage loan closers from day one."

As a Loan Consultant with Truist, you will be tasked with guiding clients through the complete mortgage process. This will include seeking the best funds available, completing paperwork, and seeing the loan through to closing. I learned many great techniques for task management and prioritizing my work. All along the way, I found it important to take time for myself to unwind and relax.
