"I earned my degree in communications and worked in retail to support myself through college. When I finished college, I continued working in retail because I like working with people, meeting people, and making people smile. I pride myself on my customer service skills. At a certain point, I knew I had to transition into a role that better suited my skills. I've been a T-Mobile customer since I was a kid and got my first iPhone through T-Mobile. I love this company; they're a great communications company, so why not work for them? So I started learning more and more about the company, and the more I learned, the more I realized this felt like the right fit for me. So here I am."

"In a professional context, full disclosure can equal transparency, but it has to be communicated effectively. You want to send the right message. Also, you want to make sure your message is received in the way it was intended. When transparency is for the sake of integrity, staying true to your code of ethics, honesty is the best policy."

What do you think about the prepaid sector of our industry?

"I saw this news recently, and I find it exciting for T-Mobile's continued innovation and growth. The prepaid sector of the telecommunications industry is presumably hungry for innovation and digital ease as well, and Metro by T-Mobile is the first prepaid brand to commit to launching 5G service. Combine that with adding Amazon Prime and Google One, and T-Mobile is showing prepaid customers the same level of customer-centric innovation as in the other sectors of its business, which is 100 percent true to the T-Mobile brand. I believe T-Mobile will see both rapid and sustained growth in its prepaid segment as a result."

In an interview, you want to do more than just convince them that you are the right fit for them. Why did you choose a career in telecommunications?

"I wasn't sure what I wanted to do when I completed high school. From a young age, I always liked being active. I knew I would find an office job mundane. A school counselor suggested an internship with a local telecommunications company, and I've never looked back. Since starting my career in telecommunications, I've loved the variety of work, different challenges, and interacting with many different people to solve their problems."

"I understand from researching T-Mobile that your work environment is highly collaborative. I come from a similar environment and have found that I can be very productive when there is the 'buzz' of a team around me. I love the synergy of brainstorming with smart colleagues who are at the top of their fields. I find that they challenge me to bring my A game, and I appreciate that extra boost of creative energy that comes from sharing ideas with others."

What would you do if your T-Mobile supervisor did not properly communicate information to you?

"Whenever I have had a supervisor who does not properly communicate with me, I first try to learn their style of communication and emulate it. I also try to ask a lot of questions and document instructions in writing as much as possible in order to make sure I'm understanding."

This is your opportunity to advertise how strong your communication skills are. When others don't communicate in a manner you'd prefer, it is incumbent on you to go the distance and adapt your communication style to theirs. At T-Mobile, we pride ourselves on being the un-carrier. Tell me a little about your knowledge of this concept.

"I'm drawn to the 'un-carrier' story that T-Mobile can authentically tell. It quickly sets you apart as an antithesis to the typical carrier of telecommunications services and lets the consumer know that his/her experience will be the opposite. Whether it's defined by simplified plans or the absence of contracts, limits, and overages, the un-carrier experience is one that, ultimately, has the best interests of the consumer in mind and provides a seamless, stress-free experience."

T-Mobile launched its un-carrier marketing campaign back in 2013. It was initially a rebranding of their contract-free simple choice plan. Today, they define their un-carrier trademark as how they differentiate themselves from other cell phone companies. From reinventing their customer service by getting rid of automated systems and relieving their customers' pain points to how they define their 100% customer commitment. "We set out to change the game, and the results speak for themselves. See the moves that got us to where we are today. The interviewer is interested in how up-to-date your company knowledge is and how well you would represent their brand to their potential customers. Anyone who represents a company needs to be a trusted resource of information on the field and the company itself. Highlight your research into their brand and culture. Take a few minutes to walk the interviewer through your knowledge and enthusiasm for T-Mobile and its innovative approach to customer service.

"T-Mobile has solidified the un-carrier position within the telecommunications marketplace - this brand statement automatically sets the company apart as audacious and edgy. It's a very bold claim. And what makes it work is that the brand story is backed up by the consumer's brand experience - everything from no contracts to free Netflix and no roaming charges in Mexico and Canada guarantees that the consumer's experience is the opposite of what he or she would expect from a typical telecommunications carrier. And it's all executed with a great sense of fun."

When have you given back to the community?

"Being an active participant in my community is second nature to me. Many people are much less fortunate than I am, and it's important to me to set a good example for my kids. When I was younger, I loved to travel, particularly in South East Asia, where I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. More recently, I started supporting my kids to sponsor a child. I also think it's outstanding that T-Mobile supports its employees' efforts to give back to their communities with everything from Huddle Up to Magenta-Match. That's one of the things that attracted me to the company."

Part of T-Mobiles culture centers on doing the right thing "for our customers, our shareholders, society, and each other. Every time." They encourage their employees to give back to their community by matching their financial contributions and incentivizing volunteer hours. They do this through their program called Magenta Match, where they empower their employees "to volunteer and donate to the causes they care the most about. Magenta Match matches employee financial donations, dollar for dollar, and $10 per volunteer hour, for a total of up to $2,000 a year per employee."

Your interviewer is trying to determine how you embody this aspect of their culture. How you answer will provide insights into your altruism. "I believe in the importance of giving back; for that reason, I spend every other Friday evening volunteering at our local soup kitchen. I was raised to believe in the importance of volunteerism and community service as part of one's civic duty. I'm very impressed by T-Mobile's commitment to service - from emergency response and service to veterans to the Huddle Up program and investing in youth."

How important are your company’s sustainability policies to you?

"I fully respect how important sustainability is in today's business environment. I believe customers are more skeptical of large companies and their environmental practices, and they want to see proof that the brands they trust are doing their best to sustainably steward their resources and help the communities they serve. The fact that T-Mobile has joined the global initiative committed to 100 percent renewable energy use and that the company has planted more than 27,000 trees through the Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees campaign are two key proof points that can help T-Mobile customers feel good about giving the company their business."

T-Mobile advertises they're working to reduce, reuse, and recycle throughout their business operations and at every stage of the product lifecycle and are "prioritizing our planet to build a more sustainable future for all." They advertise: "We're always looking for opportunities to extend the life of the devices and accessories that keep us all connected by embedding sustainability at every stage of the product lifecycle. From design and packaging to distribution and end-of-life, we look for ways to reduce waste and improve the longevity of our products and materials. Infusing sustainability principles in product design can lengthen the life of a product and reduce waste."

"This is a great question. I wouldn't necessarily seek out an employment opportunity based solely on these kinds of awards, but I do think they are a good indicator of the kind of culture a company has cultivated. Particularly when an award is based on survey responses from your employees, I think that's very telling. For me, the fact that T-Mobile consistently wins these awards means that your employee experience matches what you say about your team culture, which is a great sign."

How important is fast 5G?

"The fifth generation is one-hundred times faster than the fourth generation. When streaming, I notice very little lag with my devices, and the picture is much nicer. I have friends who do a lot of gaming who attest to this as well."

5G is the fifth-generation mobile network where transmission and download speeds for data were significantly reduced, offering higher speeds and stronger signals. It is especially valued for streaming and gaming. Additionally, T-Mobile U.S. was the first company in the world to launch a commercially available network. This serves as another source of pride for the company, underlining its position and strength within the marketplace and as the most awarded 5G network in the states. Remember, the more knowledgeable you are in your interview, the stronger your passion for working with the company will seem.

"A hundred times faster than 4G, and the fact that the company can boast that its 5G services are even faster than our competitors is nothing to blink at. Absolute proof that T-Mobile can talk the talk and walk the walk. Not only do you promise your customers an 'un-carrier' experience, but you can also deliver it by making their upload and download experiences stronger than any other network. Once again, T-Mobile shows that it's leading the wireless revolution and continues to transform the entire industry."

Who are T-Mobile's main competitors?

"There are fewer competitors than there used to be since T-Mobile's merger with Sprint. But in my opinion, the two competitors who can't compete are Verizon and AT&T."

T-Mobile's two primary competitors are AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Among them was also Sprint, which merged with T-Mobile in 2020, giving them an even stronger advantage. Regardless of what other websites might suggest, it's important to not only familiarize yourself with but also align yourself with how T-Mobile presents itself to its customers. On their website, they advertise that they are the "fastest mobile operator in the U.S. with median download speeds more than 2x faster than Verizon and AT&T at 165.22 Mbps" and that they have the "most consistent network, meaning T-Mobile customers have faster speeds more consistently than those with Verizon and AT&T."

What do you know about our customers?

"From what I have researched, it seems like T-Mobile is specifically targeting the customer who is fed up with the red tape, extra fees/expenses, and limitations of traditional telecommunications carriers. As the 'un-carrier,' your messaging and brand story taps into that sense of frustration with the status quo and the longing for more digital freedom. Is there anything specific you would like to share with me about your customers and target market?"

Your interviewer is asking how familiar you are with T-Mobile's approach to making their customers feel heard and understood. T-Mobile posts statistics on its website, such as how "80% of customers aren't satisfied with how businesses respond to their problems." They're suggesting they recognize and understand their customers' pain points and hope their "customer-obsessed" solutions will validate and satisfy their customers' needs. Describe your familiarity with their approach, and explain that you are eager to learn more.

"I've been a customer for several years, and so I know you're looking to make your products and services easy, streamlined, and stress-free for people like me. I believe you're looking for customers who want a sense of digital freedom and who also want to align themselves with an unconventional and edgy brand that constantly pushes to innovate and break through the status quo."

How does T-Mobile stand apart from our competitors?

"T-Mobile is a company of firsts, from 5G to HD voice, among so many others, the competition seems to have trouble keeping up. According to one industry resource I checked out, T-Mobile is the only carrier that provides seamless HD voice calling on and between its HD voice networks without dropping calls or losing HD voice quality when moving between networks. You can't make that argument for any other U.S. carrier."

Every T-Mobile employee is expected to have comprehensive knowledge of their products, services, innovations, and accomplishments. T-Mobile widely advertises being the first to launch HD calling in the U.S., getting rid of automated phone systems and enhancing a more human touch with their customer service teams, to eliminating cell phone borders between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, among others marks of pride. Briefly discuss your knowledge of T-Mobile's unique approach and the trends they set in the industry, such as offering free Netflix to their customers in 2017 and AT&T following suit by offering their customers free HBO-Max in 2020.

"Being the first to enable HD Voice on its nationwide network seems completely consistent with T-Mobile's brand as the 'un-carrier.' It was a step toward providing valuable customer service that couldn't be found anywhere else. And - it was an important step for the industry because it caused other carriers to step up their game and follow suit. It's another example of how T-Mobile is a leader that is shaping the future of the telecommunications industry."

We work hard to keep a harmonious workplace culture at T-Mobile. Have you ever had a conflict with a manager? How did you resolve it?

"Nobody enjoys conflict in the workplace; however, I have experienced it before. In my previous position, there was a miscommunication with my manager related to my work schedule. He accidentally scheduled me on an approved requested day off. When we discussed it, he was defensive at first, but I kept asking questions until he recognized he had made an honest mistake. I am a firm believer that, with mutual respect, conflicts can resolve rather quickly. Ask questions first, and react when you have the answers."

The question serves two primary purposes. The interviewer would like to know how you react in conflict situations and how effective your mediation and communication skills are. They are also interested in learning more about the context of the example you offer and whether you have perceivable issues with those in positions of authority. "I pride myself on my ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with my leaders. The few times my relationship with a supervisor wasn't amazing, I made a lot of effort to adapt, including trying to understand what the supervisor values most and delivering it, making sure to keep my cool at all times, trying to anticipate their needs and adapt to preferences, and also taking every possible leadership opportunity to show my worth."

Excellent customer service is very important to us at T-Mobile. How do you handle challenging customers?

"As a Telecommunications Specialist, I'm often called out to assist customers who are frustrated, disappointed, or angry due to equipment failure. In these situations, I always listen first, then validate the customer's feelings before jumping to solutions. Technical disruptions can be frustrating, and I want them to know I am on their side. "Challenging customers are present in any industry, and I have experienced a wide range of them in my career so far. I find that upset customers just feel like their problems are not heard. By offering an empathetic ear to their situation, I can usually diffuse the situation immediately. I will ask them what they feel a suitable solution is and then provide that solution, or as close to it as possible. I believe this philosophy fits well with T-Mobile's customer-centric approach to business."

Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer.

"At my current job, I discussed our product line with a customer at length. At a certain point, they were happy with my service and asked if we could deliver the products they purchased to their home, and even though it wasn't common practice, I arranged it. Then they left their cell phone by accident, got into a cab, and left. Luckily, I had their address, so I got in my car and drove to their residence. I pulled up to their house right as they were getting out of their cab and handed them their phone. I don't know if they were a T-Mobile customer or not. But I think it would be funny if they were."

This question serves as a test of how "customer-obsessed" you are. Your interviewer is trying to assess your professionalism, emotional intelligence, and empathy when dealing with customers. "My approach is all in my focus. I focus on the customer, and I make it known. I deliver a positive experience from the moment they've reached the landing zone to the grand finale of their experience. I want them to feel like they are always invited. If we have earned their loyalty, then they are a part of our tribe, and they need to feel welcome. However, if they are frustrated, the first thing to do is resist reacting defensively. They need to be heard, and they won't feel heard if you raise your guard. So I lower my guard and immediately empathize with them, so they identify me as a friend who is there to help. I listen, make them feel heard, mirror what they've communicated to me, and empathize by validating their feelings, and then I tell them I will try to help. I offer transparency by giving them the information they need, offering context to their experience, and helping them navigate their issue from here. This way, they feel heard, and I earn their trust. Once they trust I will do and have done everything I can, I've turned their experience around."

When performing research on a company, you want to spend equal time analyzing your approach to your work, your systems, your customer service skills, and your sense of teamwork. "It depends on the gravity of the unethical behavior. If it was a minor infraction, and I believed I could dissuade them, I would talk to them first. However, if the transgression was more serious, I would follow the channels I deemed wisest within the bounds of our code of conduct and report it without delay. I feel strongly about protecting my company's assets, and there is no greater asset than reputation."

Some individuals mistakenly assume most people think as they do. For example, a person who steals often assumes others would steal from them. This question evaluates your sense of integrity. A person who is capable of unethical behavior might be willing to suggest that they would readily bend the rules if asked to if that meant they'd win the job. Whereas an honest person would assume everyone was honest like them and would do the right thing. The interviewer's motives are irrelevant. "My priority would be soaking up as much information about T-Mobile's culture, processes, and KPIs as possible. I'd embark on a 'listening tour' to engage in deep conversation with my team and with my colleagues to discover the greatest current needs and how to prioritize them based on company goals for the quarter. Overall, I would strive to meet or exceed all KPIs for the business quarter as efficiently as possible."

When starting a new position, it is essential to align your goals with the company's big picture. Your primary focus should be getting up to speed in learning everything you can about the practices, systems, processes, and your teams. You want to focus on earning the trust of your customers and coworkers while building relationships. You want to lay a foundation for your success before you contribute in larger ways. "If hired today, I would start by learning everything I could about the way things are done and why. I would build relationships with every member of the team and identify what they've built or contributed to. Then, with a strong foundation to build off of, I'd start analyzing all quantifiable data from the last month, quarter, and year to identify any challenges and set a plan to address them. I'd also look for team and company strengths to capitalize on or expand them to increase the company's bottom line. Overall, I'd be looking for patterns to help me make an immediate contribution to the team and the organization."

"I have worked with diverse groups of people most of my career. I am most comfortable and happy in this environment because it offers a great learning opportunity. The more diverse, the better. Who wants to work with people who think the same as you? What would you learn? Overall, I'm more comfortable being around people who aren't like me, and I've been able to learn from exposure to a lot of different perspectives. "That's an interesting question. I define taking ownership as accepting responsibility for my actions, taking responsibility for my failures, staying true to my word, and living up to my commitments. I look at taking ownership as integral to one's integrity."

"It depends on what you consider failure. If I commit to something new, I always propose realistic deadlines. I pad the job to plan in case things don't go according to plan to reduce the impact in case I fail at my initial goals. Then I set personal deadlines and plan on incorporating all sorts of extras so that I over-deliver and go above and beyond. Then, if at first I don't succeed in meeting my self-imposed deadline, I can learn from and rectify my failure and turn it into a success. At the very least, I deliver on time, according to the realistic deadline. This happened with a new project I worked on several months back, and I didn't go as above and beyond as I'd hoped."

I knew the basics of her role but was certainly not trained in its specifics. I was able to take it on successfully by leaning on my team, reading a lot of company manuals, and asking many questions. Once my manager returned, she was pleased with the progress that I made, and I was awarded a promotion."

But with good training and encouragement from my supervisor, I've been able to help find solutions for our customers in uncomfortable situations."

Share a time you helped a co-worker accomplish an important goal.

"As a Sales Manager, I know that my team is only as successful as the lowest producing employee. My entire team must be motivated, engaged, and on point with their KPIs. Last month I hired a new employee who was struggling significantly with sales. I sat him down and realized that he didn't understand the product. We spent a few hours together over that next week learning the product. In the end, his sales increased by 64%, and he was significantly more confident. It helped the team morale as well."

"When a new hire starts, I have become the go-to for shadowing. I always make sure to introduce myself to a brand new employee in my same role, and rather than see him or her as a threat, I schedule time for him or her to sit down with me and shadow what I do and how I do it. I want to see everyone succeed and, since there is no real training program in our company, I feel I need to be the change-maker in the organization."

Have you ever led a team project? If so, describe your experience and methodology or approach.

"Most of the projects I've been part of have used Agile methodology. I have found that Agile project management gives greater flexibility to pivot without requiring substantial changes and reworking. The risk is also reduced since the project is completed in iterative steps, with testing along the way rather than waiting until the end of the project. Is Agile project management the primary method used at T-Mobile?"

There are several ways you can answer this question, but try not to get bogged down in all the details involved with your approach to project management. Instead, focus on your approach to leading your teams while exemplifying your leadership style. Touch on your communication skills as well, especially since strong communication is intrinsically tied to being a strong delegator. Explain how you ensure the message you are sending is the message received and how you effectively manage your time, ensuring your deadlines are met.

"I have not led many projects, so my experience could be stronger than it currently is. But, I am always an encouraging and positive force in any collaborative environment. I work fast, setting the pace, especially when facing short or tight deadlines."

"Transparency is key for T-Mobile's success because it ensures customers' trust; every day, various organizations and entities ask Internet and telecommunications providers to release information about their users. Since mobile phone and Internet users worldwide entrust a huge amount of sensitive and personal information to their service providers, understanding who might be requesting that information can be a huge step in consumers' protecting their private data. It's also common, in legal investigations, for phone records to be subpoenaed. I think context is important in such situations to assure their customers that T-Mobile is acting with integrity and according to their code of conduct."

For the sake of transparency and to showcase how they aim to protect their client's information, AT&T maintains transparency reports, providing details on all responses to legal demands of their customer's information. Each annual Transparency Report includes all the information they are legally permitted to disclose without obligation to do so. So when answering this question, address it as you would to their customers. This is another opportunity to display your communication and customer service skills and how you would respond to T-Mobile's customer concerns. Show the interviewer that you understand T-Mobile's position on this issue.

"Various organizations and agencies regularly seek to obtain customer data from devices as well as from Internet and telecommunications companies. These requests have prompted a critical and public debate about the scope and scale of - particularly government - access to users' information. For T-Mobile to be transparent in disclosing the types of requests it receives adds to that dialogue and provides important historical information for the continued analysis of this trend."

Tell us about a time you found a better way of doing something at work.

"During college, I completed a few jobs for friends with small business requirements. One client was looking for a solution to manage contacts and client information as he was using only a manual spreadsheet. I researched appropriate CMS platforms and advised him on what I thought would best suit his needs. I then went through a mapping process to understand what he needed the software to do. I customized fields, which required basic coding skills, and provided process guides for how he should best use the software going forward."

Your interviewer wants to know what type of innovation you may bring to their teams. They also ask this question to determine if you aim to support the company in any way you can and keep your eye on the big picture. "Through innovation and a constant eye on emerging trends, we can better deliver on both the current and future needs of our customers, while never losing sight of our commitment to responsible business practices." Someone investing in the company they work for considers themselves a stakeholder and aims to support their team will typically go above and beyond the status quo. Show your interviewer how well you stack up compared to the other candidates competing for this opportunity.

"Not too long ago, I had to do a company-wide Windows 10 installation for one of our clients. I planned the installation with my team; we briefed all 50 employees on what to expect during the installation and how long we expected the installation to take. The project ran seamlessly, and I believe this was because we communicated so clearly along the way with all parties."

At T-Mobile, we pride ourselves on being resourceful. When have you resolved a problem in your workplace?

"In my most recent position, we had a consistent problem with employees showing up late for their shifts or calling in sick at the last minute. Rather than the typical documenting and reprimanding style, I decided to track the results of an accountability reward system. For 180 days, my employees received a reward for coming to work 10 minutes early. Also, for every month with zero sick days, I added a bonus. In the end, we awarded those with perfect attendance a $600 bonus. The bonuses cost us less money than the cost of lowered productivity due to absent employees. The program was a success, and upper management chose to keep it implemented for another six months. We will re-assess in December, but it seems to be working very well. If I were to be hired, I'd bring that same sense of problem-solving and positive reinforcement to the T-Mobile team."

"Currently as assistant manager, I resolve problems on a daily basis. The most recent resolution process I was a part of included a customer complaint about a defective product. I was able to resolve her concern by listening to her, apologizing, issuing a refund, and offering a replacement product. I am no stranger to dispute resolution, problem-solving, and creative customer service, and I believe my approach would be in-line with the customer-focused approach T-Mobile espouses."

What are your salary expectations?

"I earn a base salary of $45,000 plus a potential 20% annual bonus. Last year my earnings were $52,000. My current employer offered me more if I was to stay with them, but the career growth doesn't align with my career goals. T-Mobile's advertised salary seems fair for current industry trends. Is the advertised rate part of a range or a set rate?"

"I enjoy spending time with friends and family and neighbors. I enjoy going for bike rides and being creative. I enjoy picnics and watching movies. I enjoy life."
