"I plan to contribute to your profitability through hard work, strategy, tenacity and paying close attention to the needs of my customers. I have solid results in my most recent position and look forward to bringing these same successes to Sprint."

Talk to the interviewer about your sales targets, results, and contributions in the past. Be sure to highlight your biggest wins and talk about the ways you will bring the same performance to Sprint, if hired.

"My first step would be to examine current performance against KPIs and then develop a 30-, 60- and 90-day plan for how I can help the company achieve, and even exceed, them. I have a solid history of identifying strong lead measures that help support overall organizational strategies, and then leading a team to achieve those measures."

Doing good works in our communities is very important to us at Sprint. What can you tell me about Sprint's involvement in discouraging texting while driving?

"I believe Sprint's involvements in these types of efforts and campaigns is a smart and strategic move for the company that can be positive on many levels. Addressing the important issue of distracted driving through transparency, education and technology allows Sprint to demonstrate how good technology works as a positive force in our society. This positions Sprint as part of the solution rather than part of the problem."

This is a good chance to both highlight your own knowledge of this key telecommunications issue and show that you've done a little research in order to prepare for the interview. Show that you have a good understanding of Sprint's position regarding this issue.

"I believe that with the high incidence of distracted driving, Sprint is in a position to be a real thought leader in this space. It makes a lot of sense for Sprint to be a voice of reason about using technology appropriately and responsibly. For me, it's an encouraging and positive sign that Sprint is taking a proactive position to provide awareness and education about the dangers of distracted driving, along with developing technology solutions to promote better driving behaviors."

Have you progressed in your career as you have expected?

"Overall, my career has progressed a touch slower than I would have liked. I have held a couple of positions that didn't offer the growth and learning that I was expecting; however, I have bounced back nicely. I feel that this particular position would take my career exactly where it should be for my level of education, experience and ambition."

Career progression can be a touchy subject, especially if you feel that your career hasn't progressed as well as you would have liked. Talk to the interviewer about your career progression and what you would like to see in the future.

"I love this question, and I can't imagine that there are very many people who can say that their career has progressed exactly as expected. And if they can say that, it tells me they haven't taken very many risks or disrupted the status quo. Because of my entrepreneurial approach in general, I'm open to new opportunities and willing to take risks in order, ultimately, to enjoy greater success. When you approach your career in that fashion, you never know where it will take you - except on to greater challenges and success."

What can you tell me about the Sprint family of brands?

"The Sprint family of brands provides a lot of options for consumers. There's the Sprint parent brand, which operates traditionally. There's also Boost Mobile, which provides a pre-paid option for consumers, and Virgin Mobile, which provides more flexible, simple, open-ended plans with no contracts. No matter what kind of relationship consumers are looking for with their telecommunications provider, Sprint has made it possible for them to find what they're looking for."

You should be able to check out the Sprint website ahead of your interview and get a basic familiarity with the Sprint family of brands. Show the interviewer that you've taken the time to familiarize yourself with the company's full portfolio.

"It looks to me as though Sprint has a nice sense of diversity among its brand portfolio. Not all consumers have the same telecommunications needs, so making brands like Boost, Virgin and the traditional Sprint brand, all with different models and offerings, available for consumers is a smart way to diversify Sprint's customer base."

When have you worked among a diverse group of people?

"I have worked with diverse groups of people most of my career. I am most comfortable, and happy, in this type of environment because it offers a great learning opportunity. Overall, I'm accustomed to being around people who aren't exactly like me, and I've been able to learn from exposure to a lot of different perspectives. I look forward to being part of Sprint's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment."

Are you accustomed to working with a very large or diverse team of individuals? Assure the interviewer that you can handle an environment that offers diversity.

"In my current company, we have a very diverse group of people that range in age, race, experience, gender and more. I embrace it fully. I love that Sprint takes pride in its talented and diverse team of people who focus on customers every day. Their combined intelligence, spirit and creativity make Sprint a great place to work, learn and grow."

What are your salary expectations?

"Currently, I earn a base salary of $45,000 per year plus a potential 20% annual bonus. Last year my earnings were $52,000, and I would like to stay in the same range or gain a slight increase. According to my research, this seems consistent with the market."

The best way to discuss your salary expectations is to use your current earnings as an example. Be open and honest. Transparency is the best choice when salary based questions arise.

"I would like to earn slightly above where I am now. I am currently making $100,000 per year with two bonus opportunities. I am looking for compensation that is aligned with the role and provides an opportunity for growth. If that is out-of-range for this position, I would hope we could discuss alternative benefits and/or a path to reach that salary goal."

What type of work environment allows you to be the most productive?

"I understand from researching Sprint that your work environment is highly collaborative. I come from a similar environment and have found that I can be very productive when there is the 'buzz' of a team around me. I love the synergy of brainstorming with smart colleagues who are at the top of their fields. I find that they challenge me to really bring my A game, and I appreciate that extra boost of creative energy that comes from sharing ideas with others."

Are you able to be productive in any environment? Are there particular types of situations that you find distracting? Discuss your preferences with the interviewer. Be sure to research the kind of environment offered in this position before the interview.

"I work well in a high pressure, demanding environment that requires you to work smart and make your mark. I am competitive in nature and love to be challenged on a personal and professional level. I am excited and motivated by winning, whether that be winning over a new client, exceeding my KPIs or being recognized for a job well done. I am also motivated and energized by a strong team that supports and challenges one another."

How do you handle communicating bad news to a fellow worker or subordinate?

"I believe no one enjoys sharing bad news with a co-worker, but I do have experience in doing so. When this type of task is required, I make sure, first, to practice empathy. Truth is always key, so I will be honest and clear when sharing the news. For instance, if I am to terminate someone's employment, I will not sugar coat the reasons. It's best they know so that they can learn from the experience."

One of the toughest parts of communication can be delivering bad news to people that you work with and care for. Whether it is delivering a less than positive work review or terminating someone - it doesn't come easy. Assure the interviewer that you can handle this type of task in a transparent, concise and professional manner.

"I try to be very direct with my communication skills. While showing empathy is always important, I try not to be over-emotional when sharing non-ideal information with team members - most news of this nature is fact-based and can be presented calmly and rationally. A sense of optimism can also help. Good or bad news, there is always a way to improve the situation and create something good from it. After delivering bad news, I will work with my coworker to find a positive solution."

What can you tell me about the Sprint magic box?

"From what I understand, the Sprint magic box is an all-wireless small cell that improves data coverage and increases download and upload speeds. It looks like it has the potential to greatly improve the customer experience, whether inside a home or business. It boosts data signals, accelerates LTE data speeds and increases average upload and download speeds."

This is a good opportunity to showcase the research you've undertaken in order to prepare for this interview. You're not expected to answer in great detail; just show that you've taken the time to gain a general understanding.

"I did read a bit about the magic box while preparing for this interview, and I think it's a very interesting concept. With its potential to provide higher quality streaming videos, faster app experiences and overall faster upload and download speeds, this represents another innovative way that Sprint is taking a customer-centric approach to transforming the company."

At Sprint, we take having the right team members very seriously. Have you ever had to fire an employee? What were the reasons for their termination?

"I have had to terminate employees in the past, yes. These terminations generally stemmed from missed targets or insubordination, all of which were carefully documented and discussed at length with both our Human Resources team and the employees in question. I find it challenging to terminate employees because I do care about them and their well being. I have to remind myself that I did absolutely everything I could to ensure their success, but I cannot carry the full weight."

Terminating an employee is never a task that people like to do. Talk to the interviewer about how you go about employee terminations. What does that conversation usually look like?

"Unfortunately this is a part of wearing your management hat. I recently had to separate employment with someone who was under-performing. We coached the employee in question, offered additional learning experiences and worked with them on a performance improvement plan. It was the right person in the wrong role, and we had to decide to move forward. While these decisions are difficult, in my experience, separation ends up being best not only for the company, but also for the employee involved."

Would you say you focus more on reasons why change will not work rather than adapting to new changes?

"When a change occurs in the workplace I initially try to balance the pros and the cons before reacting. Overall I would say that I prefer to focus on why the changes will work. I am a positive person by nature, and as long as the reasons behind change and the potential benefits of implementing that change are clearly communicated by leadership, I've found that most team members will be generally accepting."

When a change occurs in the workplace do you view it positively or do you resist the change? Talk to the interviewer about how you adapt to change.

"I am happy to adapt to changes as long as they make sense and help with productivity. I am a team player and will always choose the positive side of things rather than dwelling on potential difficulties. I'm also very pragmatic and understand the concept of 'adapt or die.' I know that any successful organization must continually adapt to its environment in order to ultimately thrive, so change within the workplace is entirely expected."

If you were hired today, what would you accomplish first?

"My first priority would be soaking up as much information about culture, process and KPIs as possible. I'd embark on a 'listening tour' in order to engage in deep conversation with my team and with my colleagues to discover the greatest current needs and how to prioritize them based on company goals for the quarter. Overall, I would strive to meet or exceed all KPIs for the business quarter as efficiently as possible."

When you start a new position, it is essential to set a goal on how you will make a positive impact quickly after being hired. Tell the interviewer what your impact goal is, should you be the successful candidate and hired at Sprint.

"If hired today, I would start with analyzing all quantifiable data from the last month, quarter and year to identify any challenges and set a plan to address them. I'd also look for team and company strengths in order to capitalize on or expand them in order to increase the company's bottom line. Overall, I'd be looking for patterns that help me make an immediate contribution to the team and the organization."

How do you believe our integration with Hulu will affect Sprint's future business?

"I think this was such a smart move for both Sprint and Hulu. For not quite a year now, the Sprint Unlimited Freedom plan has included access to Hulu for new and existing customers. With this collaboration, Sprint is able to offer the best price for unlimited entertainment with one of the most popular streaming TV service providers. This offers an outstanding deal for customers and can help inspire their loyalty; it also shows creative thinking on the part of both Sprint and Hulu"

There is no right or wrong answer! You merely want to display to the interviewer that you have a finger on the pulse of what is happening in the telecommunications industry and have some ideas about how partnerships like these affect market position.

"I believe this partnership will go a long way toward solidifying customer loyalty and driving up revenue for Sprint. This is a smart partnership. We know people love watching TV on their mobile devices, so this move makes it easier than ever for Sprint customers to enjoy their favorite Hulu shows and movies. They can have a powerful, seamless entertainment experience that they can take with them, whenever and wherever they want."

Which coding languages are you familiar with?

"I began my current position with very minimal coding skills. I can confidently say that I now have intermediate coding skills - primarily in HTML, CSS and more recently, JavaScript. I'm largely self-taught and started to learn as a hobby to build digital systems on the weekend. I've noticed over the last five years that this knowledge is becoming particularly valuable in my day-to-day work. Are there any coding languages you are specifically looking for?"

The interviewer is looking for evidence of continued learning and improvement. Your desire and willingness to expand your knowledge into different areas of technology is something that will make you a stand out candidate. Discuss the coding languages you are most familiar with and be sure to ask the interviewer if they are looking for any specific coding languages. You want to have the opportunity to address any potential shortcomings in your experience right away.

"Coding has not been the primary focus of my training. With that said, I have worked with individuals who are fluent in CSS and JavaScript. Are there any coding languages that you need me to learn to be successful in this role? I am happy to take any required coursework."

At Sprint, we are transparent in communicating our positions on critical issues. Which of our policies and position statements are most meaningful to you?

"First, I must say that I am really drawn to the fact that Sprint takes such a transparent approach. For me, it's important to know where a potential employer stands on issues that are important to me. Issues like responsible water use. I did read Sprint's drought policy, which outlined the company's approach to optimizing the use of water at its headquarters based on the scarcity of local supplies - all while maintaining high-value landscaping and caring for fish and other wildlife."

The interviewer is looking for clues that you understand who the company is within the global marketplace and what its positions are on important industry issues. Feel free to ask questions to clarify a specific position. Anything the interviewer shares will help you in the next interview!

"I read through Sprint's position paper on human trafficking, which is a very frightening issue that may affect millions of people each year. I appreciate that Sprint unequivocally states that it opposes this sinister practice and has measures in place to ensure that its suppliers operate in the same way. I also appreciate the fact that Sprint employees can use the company's confidential Ethics Helpline and Employee Helpline to report actions that may violate company polices and /or laws or regulations, including any account of human trafficking or slavery."

How can Sprint continue to perform better than our competitors?

"I believe Sprint has continued to be an industry leader due to its unwavering commitment to quality, its customers and persistent innovation. Some telecommunications companies have fallen behind because they are focused on what competitors are doing, instead of focusing on true and unique innovation. Developing products and solutions that customers want is what is important, and I believe that Sprint has mastered that."

The interviewer would like to know how well you understand the industry, and the business environment that Sprint operates in. Showcase the research you have conducted on Sprint and their competitors.

"I believe that the key to outperforming your competitor is in knowing the needs and wants of your customers better than they do. I have seen the quality and satisfaction surveys that Sprint conducts as well as the regular customer check-points to ensure overall happiness. I think that this can be even stronger by adding more touch-points and places for customers to leave feedback."

What can you tell me about the Sprint Now transformation plan?

"I read a little about the Sprint Now plan in preparation for this interview. My understanding is that Sprint Now is the strategic plan that will guide the operations of the company into the future, transforming Sprint over the next five years. The plan includes the Sprint mission, vision and values, and serves as the overall framework that unites the entire Sprint team. I crave that kind of clear leadership and purpose and would love to join this transformation."

Your answer should demonstrate that you have done your research on Sprint and have an understanding of the way it's shaping its business for the future. The interviewer isn't necessarily looking for an in-depth analysis of the plan, but more that you have taken the time to research how the company is developing.

"I found the Sprint Now plan fascinating - a bold statement about how the company leadership wants to transform the company over the next five years. Through a clear statement of mission, vision and values, the Sprint Now plan shows that the company is audaciously committing to establishing itself as the best mobile platform in America, and also one of the top places to work. I find this very exciting and would love to be part of this ambitious effort."

We are looking for a long term fit. What are your short-term and long-term career goals with Sprint?

"My immediate goal is to find employment with a company who values and rewards a strong work ethic, a creative mind, and a desire for innovation. I am seeking a role with a company where I can continue to grow and refine my skills. In the more distant future, I'm interested in exploring leadership opportunities. From my research, I believe that Sprint is a strong fit for my short- and long-term career goals; I'd love to be part of your powerful team."

The interviewer would like to know that there is a strong alignment between what Sprint is offering and what you are looking for in a long-term fit. Discuss your ideal career situation, short and long-term.

"One short-term goal that I have set for myself is to take a Telecom Fraud and Telecom Billing workshop. This additional training will be a stepping stone to my long-term goal of working in an auditing type of role within the telecommunications industry. I am looking to join an organization that can support these goals, and I believe that Sprint is the fit that I have been looking for and will reward challenging the status quo."

Excellent customer service is very important to us at Sprint. How do you handle challenging customers?

"As a Telecommunications Specialist, I'm often called out to assist customers who are frustrated, disappointed or angry due to equipment failure. In these situations, I always listen first, then validate the customer's feelings before jumping to solutions. Technical disruptions can be frustrating, and I want them to know I am on their side. Once the customer feels heard, I then begin troubleshooting the issue and working to resolve it. I won't leave a service call until I know the customer is delighted. Considering Sprint's commitment to relieving customer pain points, I believe this approach will fit well within your culture."

The interviewer would like to know that you remain professional, helpful, and calm when dealing with customers of all kinds. If you can, give a specific example of a time when you successfully assisted a challenging customer.

"Challenging customers are present in any industry, and I have experienced a wide range of them in my career, so far. I find that upset customers just feel like their problems are not heard. By offering an empathetic ear to their situation, I can usually diffuse the situation immediately. I will ask them what they feel a suitable solution is and then provide that solution, or as close to it as possible. I believe this philosophy fits well with Sprint's customer-centric approach to business."

Sprint puts emphasis on hiring people who fit into our workplace culture. How would you describe your personality?

"I would describe my personality as approachable, energetic, and positive. I believe that, if asked, my colleagues and supervisor would say the same about me. I would also classify myself as bold - I'm willing to take risks in order to achieve higher and better results, ultimately for the good of the company and the good of the consumer."

Personality and character are two very different things. The interviewer is looking for more information on your personal traits vs. your integrity. This would include buzzwords such as introverted, energetic, and confident.

"It may seem like an odd combination, but I would describe myself as both logical and imaginative. I'm imaginative in the sense that I'm always looking for new ways to approach consumer issues and new ideas to test out. And then I'm logical in the sense that I want experimentation, data and results to know for sure that what my imagination comes up with is truly feasible."

We work hard to keep a harmonious workplace culture at Sprint. Have you ever had a conflict with a manager? How did you resolve it?

"Nobody enjoys conflict in the workplace; however, I have experienced it before. In my previous position, there was a miscommunication with my manager related to my work schedule. He accidentally scheduled me on a requested day off, and I felt disrespected. I reacted faster than I should have because once we discussed it, I realized he had made an honest mistake. I am a firm believer that with mutual respect, conflicts can resolve rather quickly. I learned to slow my reaction time."

The interviewer would like to know how you react to a conflict situation, and how active you are in attempting resolution. Use a real-life example if you can. If you are newer to your career, this could include a case of a conflict with a professor (perhaps you disagreed with a grade you received). How you behave in a conflict situation will be critical information for the interviewer.

"I pride myself on being able to maintain a harmonious relationship with those who are considered my leaders. Anytime my relationship with a supervisor hasn't been amazing, I've made a lot of effort to adapt, including trying to understand what the supervisor values most and delivering it, making sure to keep my cool at all times, trying to anticipate his or her needs and adapt to preferences, and also taking every possible leadership opportunity in order to show my worth."

Workers in the telecommunications industry often spend a lot of time on the road and doing off-site work. This means you don't see colleagues regularly. How do you develop trust among your team members when working remotely?

"It can be difficult to build relationships, particularly trust, when you're not in each other's company often. I've found that putting in additional effort, responding to questions and comments in online channels, sending nice messages of congratulations when good work is done, or remembering birthdays, etc. is a good way to build relationships and trust."

The interviewer would like to know you are aware of the challenges that come with a role that requires travel. Show that you are proactive and deliberate in forming relationships with your colleagues despite being on the road.

"I develop trust among my co-workers by showing them that I am reliable, trustworthy, and a hard worker. Showing someone your work ethic is the strongest way to build trust, in my opinion. It's also important to try every way possible to connect. Sometimes familiarity and trust are developed just by being in the same space together, so with that advantage removed, I find that I have to be intentional about finding ways to connect with my colleagues, particularly in ways that aren't even related to the work. Remembering birthdays, asking about their children and sending encouraging words can help bridge the gap that physical distance can create."

What was the biggest change you have had to deal with in your career?

"The biggest change that I have faced in my career so far would be when my previous company went through a major merger. We had to adapt to new processes and management which was quite challenging. In the end, it worked out well for the company, in a financial perspective, so the changes were well worth the challenges we faced initially."

You will likely face change in your career from time to time. Assure the interviewer that you can adapt to significant changes in a professional manner.

"The biggest challenge I have had to deal with in my career was the economic recession that hit almost immediately after I graduated with my degree. It was incredibly difficult to find a job in my related field. Not wanting to stay idle, I chose to take on an unpaid internship in my field to avoid my skills becoming stagnant. It was a smart choice in the end because, after three months of interning, I was offered a full time, permanent position with that organization. It was a grind, and I learned a lot during that time about patience and endurance."

Accessibility is a point of pride for us at Sprint. What can you tell me about Sprint's commitment to accessibility for all customers?

"I remember seeing this program when I was preparing for this interview. I am impressed by the fact that Sprint Accessibility offers products and services that break down communication barriers for customers who are Deaf, DeafBlind, have a hearing or vision loss, or other cognitive, speech or mobility disabilities. I think Sprint goes the extra mile to make sure that all of its customers, no matter their abilities, can stay connected to the lives they want."

The interviewer wants to see that you've researched enough to know at least some surface information about this particular program. You don't have to be an expert; just show that you've done your homework and can speak generally about the concept of accessibility and its importance in the telecommunications industry.

"Accessibility is a huge discussion point and source of innovation within the telecommunications industry right now. We're starting to realize that we have neglected huge segments of our customer markets with traditional approaches, and I'm heartened to see that Sprint is making an intentional and concentrated effort in this space. And I'm encouraged that despite currently expanded accessibility solutions, Sprint isn't stopping there. Instead, Sprint is working toward communication solutions for today, tomorrow, and the future."

What anti-virus programs have you used, and have you ever had difficulty installing them?

"Effective cybersecurity solutions are incredibly important. I've used many different anti-virus software. Norton and AVG are my go-to. They're large, well-known brands, and installation is simple and straightforward. They also have extensive libraries of information if you do run into difficulty."

The interviewer would like to know your scope of understanding when it comes to different anti-virus programs, the problems that can arise, and the importance of cyber-security. Briefly discuss the anti-virus programs that you have used/installed.

"For my residential clients, I usually suggest AVG. For my commercial clients, my go-to program is Avast Endpoint Protection Advanced. The installation has always been simple for me as both offerings include great step-by-step guides as well as 24/7 customer support."

Tell us about a time when you successfully installed new or modified software, hardware or programming modules.

"During college, I completed a couple of jobs for friends who had small business requirements. One client was looking for a solution to manage contacts and client information as he was using only a manual spreadsheet. I researched appropriate CMS platforms and advised him on what I thought would best suit his needs. I then went through a mapping process, understanding what he needed the software to do. I customized fields which required basic coding skills, and provided process guides for how he should best use the software going forward."

The interviewer is looking for specific technical knowledge. Be sure to answer specifically and demonstrate your full understanding of these technical tasks.

"Not too long ago I had to do a company-wide Windows 10 installation for one of our clients. I planned the installation with my team; we briefed all 50 employees on what to expect during the installation, and how long we expected the install to take. The project ran seamlessly, and I believe this was because we communicated so clearly along the way with all parties."

Tell me about recent courses or training you've completed in your role as a Telecommunications Technician.

"Recently I've wanted to improve my managerial and leadership skills so I can take that next step in my career. In my early career, I focused a lot on developmental activities that would increase my technical knowledge. Over the last year, I've found a senior manager to mentor me in developing my leadership skills. I've also completed an internal adaptive leadership program through my current organization to develop these skills and knowledge further."

The interviewer would like for you to demonstrate your desire for continuous learning. Discuss how you have expanded your knowledge since starting a career in Telecommunications.

"I have not had the opportunity to attend any additional coursework or training since starting with my current company. This lack of opportunity is one of the reasons why I seek a new position. I appreciate that Sprint sees value in continuous education; that's a must within a team culture that is seeking such a bold, five-year transformation."

After researching Sprint and our culture, what do you think are the top 3 values we look for in our candidates? Do you possess those qualities?

"I have researched the company quite a bit in preparation for this interview, and I would say the most of all you're looking for candidates who are motivated, committed and innovative in order to continue building the kind of transformation you set out in the Sprint Now strategic plan. I believe I possess all of these qualities and feel that I would be a very good match for Sprint."

Display to the interviewer that you are engaged in the interview process by showing off the research you have conducted on Sprint before your interview. What types of qualities do they consistently mention on their website? In their job postings, do they refer to their company culture?

"I believe that you're looking for team members who are hungry to excel, who are innovative, who respect each other - those who are knowledgeable in their particular areas of expertise and willing to share that knowledge with others. I love that the company is boldly putting a stake in the ground to claim an entire transformation, and you must be looking for audacious team members to help bring the transformation to life. I believe this is the kind of environment in which I can thrive and make a positive impact."

We take community and social responsibility very seriously at Sprint. What do you know about our 1 Million Project and how does it connect with your own values?

"Education is a passion of mine, so I was very excited to read about the 1 Million Project, whose goal is to help 1 million high school students who do not have reliable Internet access at home reach their full potential by giving them mobile devices and free high-speed Internet access. So much opportunity comes with being technologically connected that I believe this can make a tremendous difference in children's lives. I would look forward to getting involved with this effort inany way I can."

The interviewer would like further insight into how altruistic you are and how your philanthropic interests mesh with the values of the company. Be sure to draw on your research in preparation for the interview and connect the dots between what Sprint values and what is important to you.

"The 1 Million Project is very exciting to me; I personally believe that intervening in early education efforts can pay tremendous dividends, so this project aligns perfectly with my own personal philanthropic passion. I believe that all students are naturally curious, want a brighter future, and are willing to work hard. Each, however, needs equal access to the Internet to achieve his or her full potential. I love that Spring is helping close the gap among the roughly 5 million families across the U.S. with school-aged children who don't have home Internet connectivity."

Describe your knowledge of Agile project management. How does it differ from other project management methodologies?

"Most of the projects I've been part of have used Agile methodology.I have found that Agile project management gives greater flexibility to pivot without requiring substantial changes and reworking.
