How do you handle situations that could cause you to be late or miss work?

"I stay calm and composed when issues arise. My dad got rear ended one time when driving me to school. I texted my friend to see if she could tell my teacher what happened. I explained the situation to my teacher when I got to class. If this happened on my way to work, I would call ahead of time to ensure someone could cover my shift."

"I hope never to be late! When I started working at a restaurant at sixteen years old, we were taught the adage of 'if you're on time, you're late,' so I've worked to implement that into my life. I always try to arrive 15 minutes early, but there are unforeseen circumstances that can arise. I handle surprises using common sense and keeping courtesy to others top of mind."

What do you think will be the biggest challenge for you if hired at Iceland Foods?

"I'm a little nervous about the physical aspects of the job -- I'm not the fittest person, but I'm excited about having a job where I'm up on my feet and working on improving my strength by lifting boxes and doing restock."

"I'm a student looking for my first job -- I don't have a lot of experience working with cash registers, but I'm really eager to learn! I've done really well in my maths courses so far in school, so I don't foresee any problem helping customers behind the register."

Part of your responsibilities as a retail assistant will be handling customer transactions at the register. Talk to the interviewer about any experience you have working behind a register.

"My math skills are strong, and I am confident that I can meet your expectations when it comes to accepting payment from customers."

How do you handle customer complaints?

"When a customer has a complaint, I always make sure to stop any other tasks I'm working on so I can really focus my attention on the customer. I make eye contact and use nonverbal cues to let the customer know I'm really listening to them. And of course, I offer to correct any mistakes that were made or loop my manager into the conversation if a more specialized response is needed."

"I've had dispute-resolution training in my previous retail positions, so I have a good base for dealing with customer complaints. "The biggest bonus to me about frozen foods is that it can be much safer and reduce instances of microbes that cause food poisoning. That alone is a big enough reason to make the transition to frozen food, even just for one or two meals per week. That's how I started out, and now the majority of our meals are cooked from frozen foods from Iceland!"

"I think it's a great benefit of frozen foods that my family and I can enjoy any type of food all throughout the year, even when it's not in season. I love baking fruit pies, and it used to drive me crazy not to be able to bake what I wanted because a fruit was out of season -- but that problem's disappeared thanks to Iceland."
