I enjoy demonstrating leadership by presenting new ideas that can save money or simplify the process."

"I know that Hulu receives recognition for producing original content. Not only that, but the content you put out is high quality, and rivals programming from some of the worlds' biggest networks. You are a trailblazer in this particular arena, which is impressive."

"I believe the best way to stay ahead of your competitors is to pay a big amount of attention to the fine details. When you put out a great product, others will try to mimic your work, but they will cut corners because they will feel rushed to get it out on the marketplace first. I will contribute to the success of Hulu by committing my most attentive work to you every day."

"Computer Science and technical ecosystems have always been a solid area for me. I have a big interest in how network communication improves our daily lives and our overall business efficiency. I see that you are looking for team members who are experts in network communications, which is what caught my eye when I first saw your job posting."

Do you have any particular areas of interest or ability? Talk to the interviewer about your strengths and be sure to highlight any specific skills that you excel in. Have you ever had to contact Hulu customer support? If so, describe your experience.

"I have heard many excellent things about Hulu customer service. Personally, I have had three amazing experiences and one average one, which was a one-off. I had called a few times after receiving error codes that I was unable to figure out on my own. The wait time was short, and the agent, knowledgeable and energetic."

Hulu is known for its fantastic customer support. The interviewer would like to know what your experience has been with their company. Of course, your response should remain positive. If you did not have an excellent customer service experience with Hulu, you can be honest but be sure to end on a positive note.

"Thankfully, my Hulu services have always worked seamlessly. I like that you have various support methods, and I hear that the wait time is quite short."

Hulu has over 8 million subscribers. How do you think we can attract an even larger customer base?

"In the case of Hulu, where you have so many subscribers already, I feel that a great focus could be on expanding the spend of those 8 million subscribers, rather than zeroing in on new customers. The ones who are already loyal may benefit from other services such as third-party content sales, or podcast streaming."

Hulu realizes that they have much of the market when it comes to subscribers and streaming services. With that said, their growth is incomparable to Netflix' 130+ million subscribers. The interviewer is interested in seeing if you have any unique ideas for gaining an even larger subscriber base. Tap into your creative thinking and suggest how you think Hulu could grow larger.

"Hulu is a household name when it comes to content streaming services. To attract an even larger customer base, I would recommend having content that is searchable by language, and then advertising to countries where Hulu may not be as prominent."

In your opinion, why do people still pay for cable television?

"I had cable and Hulu both, at one point. I found that cable was good for the hockey and football games that I wanted to watch and then most of my favorite shows were available to stream on Hulu. I think that most people who keep their cable have this as their reasoning."

The interviewers at Hulu are curious to know what your thoughts are on cable versus streaming. Of course, there are some things that Hulu cannot yet satisfy, such as local news, or live sporting events. Talk to the interviewer about why you believe certain people have cut the cable cord, and why some are still hanging onto expensive cable solutions.

"Access to local news and a few live sporting events are the only reasons why I could see someone remaining committed to cable. Hulu meets nearly all of my television and movie needs; however, I understand that many people spend more time watching television than I do."

"I think people hesitate to become a true cord cutter for a couple of reasons. 1) they are intimidated2) they still get their news and watch live sporting events on cablegoing to 1) I know when my mom still had cable, it was because she didn't really truly understand what was needed to enable streaming on her tv. You need some kind of CTV device, or the more time-consuming way is to plug your laptop into your tv with an HDMI. So once we bought her an apple tv as a bday gift, she quickly understood how streaming worked from it and canceled cable, and 2) I personally don't watch live sports, so I don't care about that offering from cable. When it comes to my news, I subscribe to WSJ and the economist to get my news so I don't need cable."

How long have you been a Hulu subscriber? What is your favorite feature, and what would you change?

"I have been a Hulu subscriber for the past three years. I believe that the original content provided is high quality with thousands of other show options and incredible pricing."

If you are applying to Hulu, you should have an active Hulu membership. The cost is low, and the research you can conduct will be priceless. The only wrong response to this question is to say that you do not have a subscription. "I believe that Hulu original content rivals any content put out by major networks. Some of my favorite shows are Hulu originals, such as The Handmaid's Tale. I think the start of original content creation was a genius move by Hulu."

"I believe that the best way for Hulu to compete with Amazon Prime is to continue being aggressive when it comes to creating and releasing original content like 'The Handmaid's Tale,' 'Casual' and 'Difficult People.' These shows are well received and give Hulu a definite edge."

When it comes to online streaming, competition is tight. Amazon may offer more flexibility in pricing and 4K video options; however, Hulu arguably provides better customer support and ease of use. Hulu is also known for having a better user interface, making it simple to navigate - even for those who are not self-proclaimed techies. Do your research to find the ways you feel Hulu can gain a further edge on one of their largest competitors, Amazon Prime Video.

"I think that Hulu is still by far the king of online streaming; however, Amazon seems to be more competitive when it comes to pricing and add-on services. For that reason, I think that Hulu could consider a discounted rate for longer service commitments."

How has on-demand video streaming changed the way you consume content?

"I watch a lot of on-demand video streaming through sources such as Hulu, YouTube, and even IGTV. I believe that on-demand video streaming saves me a lot of time as it's now effortless to search for, and find, the content that I want to watch."

"On-demand video streaming certainly simplifies life; however, it puts me on my device more than ever. I like to consume content in smaller bits now, but that also means picking up my phone or tablet more often during the day. I think that streaming on platforms such as YouTube reduces the time I spend watching commercials, but the ads that I do see are much more targeted and relevant to me."

What has been the most significant advancement in streaming technology this past year?

"This year has seen many great advancements in streaming technology. Recently, I was reading an article on what to watch for streaming this year. The one that stood out most to me was the topic of Virtual Reality and 360 video streaming. The article discussed how experts believe that immersive content is becoming more accessible, and more of a focus now."

Display to the interviewer that you have an invested interest in the technology industry by discussing your thoughts on recent advancements. Be sure to include how you stay up to date on industry changes and new technology.

"A lot of people complained in the past about the latency on live broadcasts and other interactive broadcasts. Often, when streaming, the viewer is behind a few seconds, which may seem trivial, but it's a real issue for live shows that are audience interactive. I will use American Idol, for example, where the viewers text in their votes. I know there has been a call for internet delivered content to offer higher speeds and, this year alone, we are already seeing latency improvements up to 5 seconds, which is incredible."

Hulu strives to be first in all we do. How do you stay ahead in the latest television trends?

"It's vital that I remain on trend, and even ahead of the curve when it comes to what's happening in television and film. To remain ahead of trends, I set up Google alerts with particular keywords. This set up allows me to read articles in real-time, allowing me to research new happenings very quickly and efficiently."

In the media and entertainment industry, it's imperative that you remain up to date on trends. Being up to date means not only knowing what's happening 'in the now' but also what's coming down the pipe. Talk to the interviewer about how you remain ahead of the latest trends in the industry. Examples could include helpful blogs, podcasts, industry events, or continuing education opportunities. Be sure to express the fact that staying on trend is very important to you.

"I am very involved in a few television and film industry associations, allowing me to keep my network healthy. This robust network means that I will often hear about happenings before they become official public news. I also rely on continued education, whether it be workshops offered by my employer, independent industry events, and online courses."

What do you feel are the most significant differences when it comes to selling a service versus a physical product?

"When selling a product, often the consumer gets to physically see and touch the product, making it easier to sell based on physical features. When it comes to selling a service, you have to sell based on emotion, or on what problem the service will solve for the customer. At Hulu, I would focus more on how the service would benefit their everyday life."

The hiring authority at Hulu would like to see your depth of knowledge when it comes to the sales of services and products. If you do not have sales experience, do some research on what you believe to be the most significant difference when it comes to selling services vs. physical products.

"Pricing a service can be harder to do, than pricing a product; however, this can also mean a bit more wiggle room when it comes to closing the sale of a service. Another difference is that with a service, you lean on selling a feeling or an emotion more often than with a physical product."

"I feel that a consumer should choose Hulu over other companies for video streaming services because you are the most affordable streaming service available. I noticed that Hulu dropped pricing for the basic membership where Netflix increased their prices. I trust that Hulu will always have what I am looking for while maintaining integrity in their pricing."

I would use the opportunity to create a conversation around Hulu' latest television series or another exciting release."

"In my current role, I work with the department heads and other senior management in the Digital and Social Networking department. I also work alongside many content writers, who often vary, depending on the style or nature of the work. For the most part, the projects are for digital video campaigns for social media platforms. I believe that cross-departmental collaboration, when done right, is what can set a company apart from its competition. When all creative minds work together as one, incredible things can happen!"

Hulu is all about collaboration, and the hiring authority wants to know that you are, too! Think about a project or two, where you worked closely with co-workers from other departments. What are your thoughts on illegal streaming and content downloading?

"I think that the websites who are offering illegal or pirated versions of television shows, movies, and other videos are doing a terrible disservice to the entertainment industry. Taking profits away from the studios, actors, producers, and content distributors is a short term gain, but in the end, will greatly affect the future of media."

Illegal streaming or unlawful downloading is running rampant these days, forcing legitimate companies to drop their pricing or find other ways to draw in honest customers. The interviewer would like to know your thoughts when it comes to sites that offer illegal or pirated video downloads.

"I recently read an article stating that illegal media and sites with pirated content are becoming less popular among the general public. I believe we are more educated today than we were ten years ago, on the negative effects that pirated content has on media as a whole."

What are your thoughts on the way media is rated for the public (IE: PG, 14A, NR, Mature)?

"Media ratings have most definitely loosened over the years. What used to be rated 14A is now often classified as PG. I feel this is because our kids and youth are exposed to so much more now than we ever were as kids and we are becoming desensitized. I do wish that some guidelines would remain tighter, especially surrounding violent content."

Media ratings have changed a great deal over the years, and the interviewer would like to know your thoughts on this. Be sure to keep your answer productive and thoughtful.

"Because I am newer to this industry, I would need to conduct more analysis on media ratings before I could give you a fully researched answer. With that said, I feel that the majority of media I am exposed to seem to be rated adequately, and clearly. I think it's important for viewers and consumers to easily see ratings before making their decision on whether or not it's appropriate for them."

How do you think video-on-demand services such as Hulu are affecting the media advertising industry?

"I believe that video-on-demand services are hugely affecting the media advertising industry. People have changed how they consume media, and advertisers have had to adapt. Look at YouTube, and their 15-second ads played before a video will load. Consumers now watch commercials on mobile and social networking sites versus on television between episodes of their favorite sitcom. Advertisers have had to make a significant pivot over the last few years, leaving those unwilling to adapt, in the dust."

The interviewer would like to see that you have insight when it comes to the video streaming industry, and how it's changing the way companies advertise. Raymond James, a financial services firm, conducted an extensive survey in 2017 showing that 40% of people asked, said they choose video streaming over traditional television, to avoid commercials. This statistic indicates that video streaming has a massive impact on the advertising industry. Give a thoughtful response, showing to the interviewer that you have a keen interest in what's happening in the world of media, today.

"I believe that the convenience of video-on-demand has made people impatient when it comes to how they digest advertising. The quick 3 second blurbs we see now, on social networking sites, meaning that advertisers have to be incredibly sharp in their messaging. I think this is a great change, ensuring that advertisers spend their dollars wisely, getting the best message out to consumers in as short of time as possible."

What do you know about the part that AI and Machine Learning play when it comes to on-demand video streaming?

"I recently attended the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas where I was able to get an insiders' peek at how AI and machine learning are forming streaming services. One of the factors that stood out to me is the fact that AI helps greatly with precise content curation. This assistance is not limited to on-demand video streaming but also more traditional forms of broadcasting, media, and entertainment."

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are both very hot topics in technology, and the hiring authority would like to see awareness when it comes to what's happening in the world of AI and how it relates to on-demand video streaming. Some options for answering this question include referring to a press release by Hulu, discussing how they embrace AI technology to improve their services. "I feel that the most influential form of media today is social media and online content. As a whole, the human race wants fast, easy to consume, entertainment news. Our rate of consumption is unprecedented, and the fastest way to access it is through online content sharing."

Have a meaningful conversation with the interviewer on media influence. With so many forms of media out there, which do you feel is the most influential at the moment? Be sure to back your answer.

"There are many important forms of media today - so many, in fact, that people seem to be getting overwhelmed. I would still say that traditional media, in the form of television and the daily news, is at the top when it comes to the number of people influenced and the quality of the content distributed."

Would you violate Hulu policy to make a customer happy?

"I do not believe that violating company policy is necessary since the policy is in place for good reason. If I could not make a customer happy within the parameters given to me, I would escalate the situation to my manager. If there was further flex available, I believe my management team could find a way."

"I have seen a lot of great shows come out in the past year or so. Currently, I am still addicted to Game of Thrones, as well as Westworld. I like to watch premium shows that have complex and deep storylines. With that said, I am always open to suggestions; should you have them!"
