They are likely asking this question of every interviewee. It could be a test to gauge how presumptive you'd be in your translation of their intensions in asking. Remain professional and objective. Considering how competitive this opportunity is, being completely available and ready for the next stage when it is presented reflects that you have planned well for this opportunity. A willingness to be flexible, while conveying hopeful enthusiasm, is the tone you'll want to strike.

Are you willing to work overtime, nights, weekends?

"If you need me to work extra hours or be flexible to work different shifts, I am willing to do it! I'm comfortable working longer hours as needed."

If you are interviewing for customer service or sales, chances are you will need to be open to working a variety of shifts. Normally, this should be spelled out in the job description or on their website. Don't let this question catch you off guard! The more open your availability, the better.

"I am very flexible with working different shifts and overtime, this is something I have done in the past, and will happily do it again. Once I had to help my team achieve a goal of mass-producing some parts for manufacturing, we had a tight schedule and had to put on an emergency double shift. There were 4 guys, I included, as part of a team, 3 of us could accommodate the new shift pattern but one guy could not, so to help the team in this situation, I offered myself to work a permanent late shift and work around my shift partner so he could take his daughter to school and pick her up without any hassle. this worked great and we achieved our goal."

What do you think of Ford's new initiatives?

"I am especially impressed with the way that Ford has been moving forward in its green initiatives. I have read recently that your efforts include the use of sustainable fabric, fuel efficiency in your 6-speed transmissions and the introduction of your first clean diesel heavy-duty pickup. It's great to see that you put so much emphasis on being environmentally friendly."

You want the interviewer to know you are genuinely interested in working for them, so be sure that you are knowledgeable about all of Ford's recent announcements. Ford stays on the cutting edge of technology by staying competitive with the most recent trends within the automobile industry. Sustainability, fuel-efficiency and luxury continue to be the trends in cars these days. Research their website to find out the latest updates on their products.

"Yes, I am very interested in keeping up to date with everything that the company is doing moving forward and changing its outlook on this ever-evolving world, with its green vehicle initiatives. I share the company outlook and concerns on the environment, it's great that we are evolving and offering our whole collection of vehicles in hybrid, mild hybrid and soon-to-be all-electric forms."

"I really appreciate how Ford is trying to develop eco-friendly cars, and I'd like to hear about the number of resources they've invested in searching for new technologies to create the cars of the future."

What question do you have for me?

"bI have many, even some new ones I've jotted down since the interview began. Let's start with this; based on the company's rules, regulations, and systems and processes, what does a day in the job with your department look like in this position?"

You are interviewing the company as much as they are interviewing you. This question will help them assess if you are the type of person to ask questions when training for a new job. The more questions you ask, the more enhanced your communications skills could seem, and the more likely you are to be self-guided and successful at your job.

What challenges do you anticipate in a position?

"I expect that the biggest challenge, when first starting, will be to learn your internal systems and procedures. I am planning to start researching some of your programs much before my start-date so that my training time is used as efficiently as possible. Do you agree that this is the biggest hurdle for others as they join the Ford team?"

"There will likely be a short period of time when I start working when I will be learning procedures and how the job is done."

"For the technician role, I see many challenges I haven't faced before, and also lots of new skills to be learned. This I see as very exciting and great for me to develop into an all-around technician for the lab. There are a few roles I haven't had much or any involvement in my short time here (these include PEMS and eMIT), but I am eager to learn and soak up as much as I can whilst learning my new role. I will be documenting my new skills, tips, and knowledge gained to help me move forward. I am planning to start researching some of these new skills and areas I haven't worked in or with much so that my learning time can be more efficient and I won't then be going into a new task blind. Do you see this as a big hurdle for new technicians, when they come into the role having not a lot of knowledge or experience in PEMS or eMIT?"

What is your definition of success?

"When everyone's taken pride in their work, and feels rewarded through the recognition of their efforts, when we are ahead of our deadline, tracking and communicating where we left off on our work and have set ourselves for the next day. When everyone feels exhilarated by the group effort and is looking forward to getting back at it the next day."

Tell me about a time you made a big mistake at work.

"Any time I make a mistake, which is fewer and fewer with each experience, I try to correct it immediately on my own and evaluate the most effective and cost-reductive route. On one hand, I want to protect assets. On the other, I don't want to burden my superiors with my mistake, distracting them from their priorities. So I look at it from a task management perspective. I determine the wisest course of action and proceed accordingly. Let me tell you about the last time I had to put this into practice."

They want to ensure their ideal candidate holds themself accountable, takes ownership of their mistakes and learns from their setbacks. Making mistakes is human. Feeling fear of judgement for your mishaps is natural. How you confront your fear is the true test of character. If you tried to fix the mistake before bringing it to the attention of your superiors, explain the reasons behind your course of action. If you brought the mistake to their attention, explain that it would've cost them more to have you fix it, whereas the issue could be solved by a superior in a matter of minutes. If you chose not to distract others from work, was it simpler and less exhaustive for you to fix the mistake yourself? How we deal with and remedy a mistake comes down to exercising good judgment and knowing when asking for help is appropriate.

What is a weakness of yours?

"My greatest weakness is not being great as saying no. In the past, I've bitten off more than I can chew and struggled with how to communicate 'no'. Since then, I learned that not communicating my limits despite how well I manage my time leads to taking on more than I can handle, which leads me to underperforming. I've gotten a handle on this. But being a people person who is not easily offended and rarely takes things personally, saying no can be hard for me. This trait is a strength and weakness. I'm learning how to strike a harmonious balance between the two."

This question assesses your self-awareness and your honesty surrounding your shortcomings and if you allow them to dictate your performance or if you consistently pursue self-growth. Exhibits that you take your career very seriously. A self-identified, well-intentioned shortcoming, or a growth opportunity that is essential to your career goals, would be a good example. Choose shortcomings that benefit the greater good. The best examples are those that have positive and negative sides.

Are you more of a people person or an animal person?

"I love my little furry friends. However, I'm not one of those people who uses being an animal lover as code for being a misanthrope. I love all living things, great and small. So, I'd say I'm a dog person, a cat person, and a people person. I'm happy being alone with my pooch or happy working as part of a team, looking forward to all the kumbayas and high fives. I also love hanging out with my regular friends, at work or outside of work. We all need to be interactive, and we all need some quiet time as well."

They are curious where you fall on the scale between that of being an extrovert versus an introvert. This will inform them whether you're more of a team collaborator or an innovator. Both bring value. Don't select one or the other unless that is truly the case, which, in most cases, it rarely is. Most people fall somewhere in the middle between these two extremes on the scale. How would you describe yourself? A quick way to answer this is to ask yourself if you feel drained or recharged through social interaction.

"I am excited when I know that my hard work has influenced someone, whether that be a co-worker or a customer. To be able to give a great experience to others is a motivating factor for me."

Detail how you stay motivated and productive throughout your day. Think about what keeps you going regardless of the distractions that may take place. Give them insights into your personality and what motivates and inspires you on a personal level, how you approach your work, and what your general day-to-day attitude lends to your success.

"what motivates me is striving to improve daily, my job is still new to me in some aspects, so I always want to be better at what I'm doing, and gaining greater experiences along the way. I constantly ask for feedback, whether it be from working on certification with homologation engineers or asking my technician for advice or pointers on how to complete a task, or better what I'm trying to achieve or even going to my team leader for advice on my drive style. when I work with others I always encourage and support my colleagues, I think this breeds confidence in not just myself but everyone around, a happy workforce is a great workforce. I work hard to achieve the goals I set myself as one day I'd like to achieve an ambition, to step up a level, and become a technician."

What are your strengths?

"I am driven, self-aware and take initiative to get things done. I set realistic goals and plan the steps it will take to make sure I get stay on track and accomplish it my time frame. I look for opportunities to help out others or solve problems before they become a real issue."

"I am a self-driven, hard-working person, I have a great work ethic, I feel I'm not a selfish person and would help anybody out to complete a task whatever that maybe. I feel I use my initiative all the time to tackle work tasks every day, if I find an obstacle or hit a brick wall with something I am not afraid to ask questions and seek advice. I see it as part of my day-to-day learning. I am extremely punctual and my attendance is also excellent. I always manage my time every day, setting myself tasks every day to complete my job functions efficiently and in a quality fashion. I pride myself in doing a first-class job every day, I never let my standards slip, or lose pace with what I've achieved at work in the lab. I am a fast learner and am always looking for ways to improve myself. my strengths also include my ability to be observant of the needs of others and my perceptiveness. "I know that your company was founded in 1903, by Henry Ford, and you remain one of the biggest automobile brands in the world today. I also found it interesting that Ford owns 8% of Aston Martin, another brand of vehicle that I love so much. I appreciate that your employees stay for a long time and that you invest a lot of funds into your communities."

"I know that the company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford, it has been ever-growing and evolving to compete worldwide for peoples custom, the company has grown so much even in my own lifetime, to keep up with customer demand they have kept at the front of the competition and always produced great products that reach out to so many people for use in everyday life. when I heard about the Ford apprenticeship, elder people I knew always said it would be a great company to work for, it would be a good life, I have been taught not only job-related skills but life skills and morals I use every day. "I aim to work my way into a management position within your production team. I understand there is much to learn when it comes to your immaculate manufacturing process; however, I am eager to invest my time into learning and growing here."

Why are you seeking employment?

"I've been feeling a little stagnant at my current job. The growth opportunity they advertised when I took the job there isn't quite what they made it to seem. I've decided it's time to move on. I'm the kind of employee who is very loyal and puts my all in. But if an employer isn't putting in as much as I am, then it simply isn't as symbiotic a relationship as it should be. Does that make sense?"

They're curious what your situation may expose about you as a potential employee. Quitting a job before lining up another speaks to impulsive or poor planning. Being laid off or terminated would raise some red flags. If you're considering leaving your current employer, they'll be interest to know how committed you are to your current employer, while gauging how serious you may be about joining another team. Whatever your reason, focus your answer on the positives with a mindset for career growth.

What is the best form of communication for you?

"I am always available by email or phone. Because I currently work in a plant environment, I cannot always talk on the phone; however, I am great with getting back to people promptly. Fast communication is a strength of mine."

Coherent, functional, and professional communication is integral to the proper functioning of any business. Most companies are interested in hiring candidates who can clearly and effectively communicate across all forms. Everyone has different communication styles and preferences, depending on the person. By asking for your preferred method of communication, they're gauging your aptitude towards every method of communication, verbal or written. Knowing this can provide your interviewer with insights on how to place you within their teams. Best to strike a balance of above average writing skills and above average oral communication skills. Communication is more than getting everyone on the same page. It's about how a message is conveyed. Take care with your choice of words and what they might communicate.If this comes as the last question, they might simply be asking how to get a hold of you, in which case you should simply state your preference out of the contact information you've provided on your resume and cover letter. Best to clarify.

"I have great people skills, I am a good communicator, and never shy away from talking to people. I feel I am a very positive and outgoing person. Failing these communication links, I am available to contact you either via a phone call or email. Working in a plant, phones are not allowed to be used unless on break, so I won't always be able to answer my phone or email but rest assured I will get back to the person quickly once I have free time. quick communication is one of my strengths."

How do you handle a conflict with your manager?

"My manager asked me to take on too many projects, and I knew it was going to be too much for me. Instead of getting overly stressed and frustrated, I communicated that I was already at my max, but I still wanted to see how we could help each other out. We were able to support each other in our projects when went through and prioritized each one together."

Your interviewer is curious if you've had any negative experiences with your past managers or with anyone in a professional position of authority. This will help them find out whether the authority figure was the problem employee or if you were. Even more so, they're curious what your attitude towards your example says about you, your professionalism, general attitude, accountability, and diplomacy. Your answer can also clue them into your leadership style.Think of a time when you exercised self-control and patience. An ideal candidate will exhibit emotional maturity, objectivity, while focussing on the situation and what influenced it. Avoid making it seem personal. If you can, lean more towards experiences where a supervisor was struggling with their responsibilities, and had room for improvement. Managing up is definitely a thing! Sometimes you have to manage your supervisor by learning how to push back and challenge them in a supportive way. Think of examples that show how their behavior or lack of skills impacted the team in the workplace. Show that you are collaborative and easy going. Ford is looking for individuals with a strong work ethic and communication skills. Demonstrate your ability to see the opportunities and how you proactively work towards solutions.

"To me, conflict is like criticism, and I use this as a tool to better myself and to get a better understanding of how things need to be tackled at work. I was once given more work than my average day, my team leader challenged me by saying you'll get it done, I knew we were up against a deadline and the vehicles need to be tested, in these testing times and working shorter hours, I knew this would be hard to accomplish, and possibly impossible to get it all done, but I listened to what he wanted me to carry out, took in a deep breath, and thought for a split second about how to construct my day successfully, I didn't need to react badly or over-complicate the task. I knew that it was possible to complete the work, but possibly only have a 10-minute lunch break, so I set about the tasks set up and got through the day without any issues, I kept my team leader up to speed all day so he could communicate this back to management. it was a great feeling to keep pushing myself throughout that day, knowing my goal and what I had to do to complete the task. I had a great feeling of accomplishment at the end of the shift."

How do you handle criticism?

"I appreciate the feedback. Now I know how I can improve next time."

This assesses how you deal with feedback as well as your communication skills. This will also evaluate the scope of your emotional maturity, and whether you respond defensively or take the feedback in stride and choose to learn something from the experience. Depending on who the criticism is coming from, you will want to approach it differently. The key is to stay calm and never express frustration towards the person. Remain humble. Respond thoughtfully and with a respectful tone. Objectify the situation, not the individual. Avoid examples that did not end amicably. Remember, you are both pursuing the same goal and working as a team.

"I appreciate feedback. I like to consider all opinions and I also take advice."

"I appreciate the feedback, as it will make me learn from the mistake. Then, the next time I complete the same task, I will do a better job."

"I have been part of the Ford team for 20 years now, criticism is something I thrive on. I have grown accustomed to our culture of constant improvement and I use criticism as a tool to better myself and learn from moving forward. Criticism used in the right way is very helpful and I've never let it get to me, I've always used it in a positive manner. Outside of work and playing football all of my life, criticism is something I'm used to, so in my working life I've used this in the same context, always constructively to get the best from the situation whenever possible"

How do you handle conflict with co-workers? Can you give an example?

"The gossip in my current office started to get to me, so I decided to address it. I knew one person who had been spreading rumors, so I approached them directly and asked if we could talk. We set aside time during lunch, and I let them know how they were affecting other people and me by spreading gossip. The issue stopped shortly after. I put a lot of emphasis on professionalism in the workplace and hold myself to a high standard."

You always want to stay on good terms with your co-workers, primarily when you work closely together. When a conflict arises, give an example that showcases your experience with non-defensive communication as well as your ability to function as a mediator between those who don't see eye to eye. This will offer them a glimpse of your mediation and negotiation skills. The interviewer needs to know how adept and effective you are at diplomacy and working swiftly towards a communal end goal.

"A few years back I was working with a guy new to my area, but someone who had been with the company for 25 years, and worked in another toolroom. when he joined my workshop he was assigned to work with me. it was quite obvious straight away that safety was not one of his key attributes. we had a big task to do which involved machining many parts for production. we worked back to back on the job, when it was his turn to remove parts and replace them with new castings, he was working in a very unsafe way which made me nervous as the job was important, and we needed to work efficiently and couldn't really afford any slip-ups. we had lots of management around watching us work and also my apprentice. so I immediately stepped in and asked the guy for a quick chat to the side and out of the way of everyone else. I raised my concerns and told him he needs to be wearing relevant safety equipment, we had a policy in the shop, that if someone was seen to be working in an unsafe manner, we would all get a stern talking to, it was key to look out for my colleagues. my colleague agreed with me and apologized, he quickly changed his outlook and work ethic and we moved on from the minor blip."

Give an example of a time when you delivered excellent customer service.

"When I first started my career I worked at a grocery store. I would often take the time to help the seniors who came to our store, to pack up their groceries, find a cart, or reach something from the top shelf. Although simple, I still bring these qualities with me to my job as an operations manager. I will go out of my way to help others and provide solutions where I see a need."

This will help them assess how well you'll fit into the culture of their brand. Focus on the customer experience delivered through your interactions with your clientele and your team. Focus on the company culture, branding, and creating human connections. Exhibit positivity and an enthusiasm for working in a customer centric environment. Excellent customer service focuses on resolving customer issues and ensuring they receive the best care and leave with a memorably positive experience, ensuring they retain their brand loyalty. "Prior to my job here at Ford, I worked in a supermarket for two years stacking the shelves. I learned a great deal there, from dealing with the public, problem-solving, and helping customers find needed items. I greatly enjoyed helping people, but most of all old aged people you could just tell needed that extra help, whether it be reaching a product on the top shelf, packing up their bags with their shopping, or running their groceries out to their vehicle. I bring these qualities with me today in my day to day job, if I can help out an engineer or a colleague, be it someone on the shop floor with me or even a technician or team leader, I will help out, or even providing a different angle on the issue sometimes helps. It's all part of the learning curve. My job is very interesting, and even doing a simple task for someone could lead me to have a greater understanding of components function on a vehicle perhaps."

How do you handle difficult customers? Give us an example.

"Whenever I speak to an angry customer, I am careful to lower my voice and listen to their needs. Sometimes they need to vent. I empathize by letting them know I hear what they are saying and understand. If there is anything I can do to resolve it, I act on it. Otherwise, I ask them how I can help them and do my best to meet whatever needs I can."

If you have dealt with angry customers before, you know that upset people need to feel heard and validated. Demonstrating patience, a willingness to listen, empathy and validation will help resolve even some of the most challenging customer situations.

"There are different types of customers. We need to stay calm and try to give them the right advice and good service when required. if there is anything I can resolve for the customer, I will take the initiative to do it."

Tell me about your education.

"I tried on a few different majors when I was in college because of my diverse interests. I worked hard at everything from journalism to marketing and learned that I have great attention to detail and work well with others. My group project for my final in global marketing received high praise not just from my professor but my class. We were even asked to present to the marketing department faculty at the end of the semester!"

"I graduated from a trade school, where I learned economics and food preparation processes. Then, I joined University where I studied business administration."

"Upon leaving school I went straight to college full time and studied engineering for two years at _____ advanced level. I passed this course with a merit award, here I learned so much about engineering. This has been something I have had a lifelong passion for, inside and outside of work. from here I applied for an engineering apprenticeship with Ford. I studied here for the first two years, to gain an AVCE. I also learned key skills, improved my own learning and performance, and also working with others. I enjoyed the team-building exercise on my apprenticeship, a week away in Wales. This was great to get away and learned new skills, and gain experience from working with new people."

How do you stay current in the motor industry?

"I read the latest publications to stay current, such as Automotive News and Autoblog. I like to watch shows like Top Gear to learn about cars as well. What are your favorite ways to keep up to date on happenings in the automobile industry? "

You don't have to be a car fanatic to stay up to date on the latest industry trends, developments, regulations, and innovations. Before interviewing with Ford, remember that this is their passion. You want to reflect back to them that you too are passionate and driven to stay current on what's happening in your field. This question is also an excellent opportunity to strike up conversation, share some recent developments you've read up on, to talk shop and ask the interviewer what resources they rely on when it comes to staying up to date in your industry.

"I read the latest publications, and I also follow blogs and watch shows. This is how I stay in touch. I also share with others what is happening in the industry."

"iI stay current by reading magazines such as Autocar, Ford News from our own company's current news. I read blogs such as auto blog and watch tv programs such as Top Gear and Formula. I enjoy these greatly and like learning about all new automotive industry technologies and related items. I saw online this week about the hybrid working mobile scheme the company is offering to employees. I see both advantages and disadvantages to this going forward. for instance, if say our calibration are scheduled to be a team meeting on a Monday, and we need them in the lab on Wednesday last minute, what happens if they can't come into the lab? do you see any problems with this going forward? and also can you recommend any areas I can also look at to keep up to date with the latest automotive industry news?"

Tell me about a situation in which you had to adjust to changes over which you had no control. How did you handle it?

"I was working for a company going through a merger, which meant a lot of change in management and policies. There was a lot of miscommunication. I'm glad I stuck it out, though. I learned a lot by sticking it out during the merger, and I became adaptable."

In the automobile industry, you can expect changes to occur. This was a learning curve, especially on dayshift and having to work closely with homologation engineers. How do you make decisions under pressure?

"I trust my instincts and consider the pros and cons of my options before making a decision. When it comes to decision making, my current supervisor would say that I am thoughtful, perceptive and able to make calculated decisions based on my expertise and knowledge."

When faced with high pressure decision making, which requires an immediate response to a given situation, there's an old expression that applies; A good plan today is better than a better plan tomorrow. This applies greater pressure to a high-pressure situation, as making an immediate decision is something of a calculated risk. I feel I have a great work ethic and work well under pressure, I feel this has a good effect on people who have worked with me, I was taught these important characteristics and I hope to pass these on, people would continue these great traditions I've learned in growing up with the company from a boy to a man. For example, I can recall where I lead a team to do some voluntary work for a local museum (nonprofit organization). I was tasked with leading my colleagues, delegating tasks, and keeping everyone motivated to complete our work. I started my day by setting out the objectives for us all to complete. We had a strict deadline of 2 days of work and had to complete paint prep work on day one for it to be completed on the final day. I managed the situation by breaking the group up into sections and making sure everyone had a part to play, including myself. I managed with great success and we finished in good time on day two, we had lots of time left that we were able to have a tidy up and do a few other jobs for the museum."

"I enjoy working with a team because they make working more fun! It can be helpful to have the support of a team when working on a difficult project. I also like being able to bounce ideas off of my co-workers and collaborating with them to be more efficient and effective."

I kept in contact with my colleagues at many points during the day, verbally, I finished my components relatively quickly so I set about helping my colleagues. we achieved our goal on time and then built up the engine, ready for showing off. This gave me great satisfaction on completion, knowing I had been a part of this finished article. I had my photo taken with my team and all the leading engineers who had worked on the fox engine throughout development. A very happy day for me at Ford."
