Give me an example of a time when you had a disagreement with someone working on your team.

"I worked with this sales whiz whose numbers were admirable. But his administrative stills were rather lacking. It bothered many of his peers. There was a bit of back-talking, and there was a particular individual who 'led the pack,' so to speak. Yet, ironically, he has some of the poorest sales track records in the department. So, when I noticed this gossip was spreading, and the situation was negatively impacting morale, I talked to the leader of this pack and told them I'd overheard many of his whisperings about our teammate. He then grew defensive and expressed that he was annoyed with having to clean up the sales whiz messes. So I listened, then mirrored his concerns and empathized with him. Then, I asked him one straightforward question. I asked him what he'd done to help the sales whiz out with his administration skills. He asked me what motive he'd have to help him out. I told, him because we're a team, and everyone on the team helps each other out. As soon as I noticed something was distracting him from adhering to our values, by creating a stir and negatively impacting morale, I decided to talk to him. And since he was the first to notice the severity of the sales whiz's administrative mistakes, he was responsible for talking to him, and telling him that there were whisperings spreading about his consistent errors, and that, maybe after offering help, the sales whiz could help him with his lagging sales numbers. He expressed he wasn't good about having such conversations and didn't feel like the right person to do that. So I told him that sounds like a great growth opportunity and asked him if he wanted some advice on how to go about it. Soon they had their talk, and it all worked out, and they both ended up getting some additional training from each other, and today are super close friends helping lead the rest of our teams."

They're a great outfit, and I try to spread awareness of what they are doing whenever I can."

I've been to 7 vineyards in my time, and make a point to visit one when traveling if I know there is one nearby. Have you visited many of their wineries?"

"I love a good Malbec, so Alamos is my house wine. Dark cherry and blackberry with a little spice and a nice velvety aftertaste of vanilla. Perfect. I straight-up prefer Argentinian, Chilean, and Spanish wines. I also frequently have Camerina on special occasions. I prefer a nice blanco tequila over a reposado or anejo any day. You see when I was in Mexico City, I did a tequila tasting tour, where we went to three bars and they each had thimble-sized flights. According to our tour guide, in Mexico City, blanco is synonymous with pure and is the preferred tequila there. And the Camerina Blanco is right up my alley."

How do you handle customer complaints?

"Any time I have a customer complaint, I make a habit of actively listening, without interrupting, other than to mirror and validate. I want them to feel heard, understood, and cared for. For example, I was delivering a shipment to a customer to set up an end-cap display. But when I arrived, the customer was frustrated with the shipment. They explained that it wasn't the product they wanted and that they ordered another product. However, their reality did not correlate with the ticket. But before raising that point, I took time to listen and told them I would be happy to help in any way I could. I asked more questions to understand the problem. The customer felt the product they wanted sold well and was a personal favorite of their own. I explained to them with transparency how the ordering system worked, and I showed them the ticket. And as soon as the company hits punch on an order, the ticket prints out in our warehouse, with no in-between. I explained, therefore, that it was likely a mis-punch. I then educated them on the product I delivered, how it was a personal favorite of mine, and that it does rather well compared to the other brand. I offered to bring it back, to cancel the order, and we could place a new one, but that would create a delay in the empty end cap being built out. Or, they could see how this end-cap does, and decide if it's something they would like to try again. The customer came around and was comforted and grateful that I took the time to listen and make sense of the issue. They also admitted that it was possible the mistake was on their end. Fortunately, the wine did amazingly well, and now they order both varieties with greater consistency."

I also subscribe to newsletters from most of the major distribution companies as well, including E. & J. Gallo. This helped me stay plugged in while keeping my finger on the pulse of this industry. Quite honestly, I am still very curious about the report from Forbes, about how last year people in the United States spent more money on spirits than they did on beer for the first time. That's very interesting to me, and I bring it up as a topic of conversation frequently, in attempts to determine why. Once I understand why, it could help with anticipating or influencing future trends."

I make sure all of my meetings are marked on my calendar and set reminders about important deadlines. That way, when changes interrupt my daily flow, I can adapt and stay calm, keep track, and plan ahead. I never miss a deadline, and more often than not, come in way ahead. I am efficient, take pride in the quality of my work, and always go the extra mile."

"I am methodical about my time management, in both my work life and my personal time. I set reminders on my calendar to stay organized and on time, and I always schedule in time to address all the mundane little things that can have an avalanche effect when not addressed. Such as ensuring my gas tank is full as I head home. I make sure all my personal needs or demands don't cross over into my professional time, and I rarely take work home with me. I play soccer on the weekends, read, and spend adequate time with family and friends."

When I first came on board, the messaging between teams was a little messy, and productivity was lost when there was no indication of what was accomplished before my shift. So, I created a very simple solution of having a log book. When each one of us ended our shift, we would write in the book what we'd accomplished, and if we needed to know more, all we had to do was read back through the earlier logs. This worked quite well and was very effective in enabling us to hit the ground running with each shift. Everyone's productivity improved. And even though we rarely worked together, we felt like more of a team than ever before. Soon our reports were filled with messages of gratitude and encouragement as well."

They said they had the time now. And I mentioned how resveratrol is in red wine, and it also comes in supplement form. I suggested that by somehow advertising the well-documented health benefits of one glass of wine a night would appeal to the more disciplined drinkers or those who rarely drink at all for health reasons. I suggested that even though it wouldn't result in the hugest reward for effort, a nominal increase still pushes the boundaries. They thought that it was a novel idea, and said they would pass it on to the CMO, who loved it and ran with the concept. They created a great campaign, and sales did increase by 2% during the time the campaign was running."

"In my current company, we saw a decrease in clients due to the pandemic. Just like the rest of the world, we were in unchartered waters. We knew most of our retailers didn't qualify as essential workers, so I approached my bosses with the idea of offering a discount wine box subscription. We weren't allowed to distribute directly to the public, but I suggested we come up with a subsidiary business model online only, and if we fast-tracked it, maybe we could generate a portion of the revenue we were losing. They gave the go-ahead on the research side of it, what it would take, and the best route, so we started. I made some calls, and with the rest of the team, we produced some initial numbers of what we might be looking at. Then things moved forward, and we did quite well. We called it, The Middleman Wine Club."

But, when something unpredictable occurs and may potentially delay me from getting to work on time, the second I suspect there is a possibility of that, I call in to work to give them a heads-up. Then I offer continual updates until I am certain one way or the other."
