"I love working in a team-based environment. I enjoy bouncing ideas off others and the camaraderie that comes with being part of a high functioning team. As a Telecommunications Specialist, there are many times where I'm required to work alone, troubleshooting a technical problem off-site. I've received feedback from previous managers who have noted I'm particularly malleable and can work well independently and as part of a team."

The interviewer would like for you to demonstrate that you can work well in a team-based and collaborative environment. Use a real-life example from a time when you have worked in a team based environment.

"Whether I am doing an independent project, or working in a team environment, I always give my best. I enjoy the camaraderie of working in a team, but I can be successful working autonomously as well. I love the focus AT&T seems to place on working collaboratively, exemplified by the motto, 'imagine what we can do together.'"

AT&T is very excited about its involvement in technology like AR and VR changing the health care landscape. What do you know about the potential in this area?

"VR and AR are such exciting developments in the telecommunications industry right now - and I love that AT&T is on the forefront of this technology. Not just because it's cool, but because AT&T is finding powerful ways to harness these developments in order to make people's lives better in a meaningful way. The operating room of the future uses VR to see inside the patient and navigate precisely without incisions. By integrating with AI, physicians can draw on data from thousands of past procedures to identify best practices and avoid potential errors during surgery. It's truly amazing, and I'd love to be a part of it."

This is a great opportunity to emphasize your knowledge of both AT&T and also the latest developments across the telecommunications industry. Make sure to convey your excitement about being on the cutting edge of these innovations.

"The application of new technologies to health care is fascinating to me and represents one of the most meaningful ways that technology can improve lives. I think there's a tremendous sense of potential here -imagine being able to remotely monitor a surgical procedure for your loved one, all while the physician uses VR to see inside the patient without an incision. Though that particular application of VR/AI isn't a reality yet, I'd love to be part of a company that works with health care clients to help make that a reality."

What type of work environment do you dislike working in?

"I have felt dissatisfaction on the job when I am not feeling heard or when there is a lack of respect among team members. I work best in more harmonious situations where there is little drama or gossip, and where people are aligned behind common goals. From what I understand, AT&T fosters a respectful, inclusive and collaborative workplace, so that seems like a very good sign. How would you best describe the environment here?"

Everyone will have particular triggers that cause them to feel dissatisfaction on the job. Talk to the interviewer about any factors that may deflate or discourage you in the workplace, along with how you might overcome them.

"I have felt dissatisfied on the job when I feel that I am undervalued as someone who has good ideas and can improve the customer experience. Some employers don't necessarily value the thoughts and experience of front-line employees or empower them to solve problems to the benefit of customers. I'm very pleased with what I've learned about AT&T's culture of supporting employees, and I believe that will help me be engaged and successful here."

The environment is fast-paced and challenging at AT&T. How do you determine priorities when you have multiple projects due?

"First and foremost, I will prioritize projects that most closely align with the company's strategic goals and have the highest potential to affect the company's bottom line. In addition, I often determine which projects require my attention by the number of hours we are behind and then the project size. I am comfortable delegating tasks when needed, but I am also aware that these times will require an additional commitment of hours from me. Never have I under delivered on a deadline."

When you feel torn between multiple projects or tasks, how do you decide which one needs your attention the most? Assure the interviewer that you can be diligent when it comes to assessing your priorities.

"Assuming that the projects have different stakeholders, I interview each to determine the value of increased productivity, morale or revenue, decreased costs and the overall impact. Above all, I talk to each stakeholder about the strategic value of the particular project so we can, together, identify the work most likely to make a major difference toward the company achieving its goals and mission."

When have you worked among a diverse group of people?

"I have worked with diverse groups of people most of my career. I am most comfortable, and happy, in this type of environment because it offers a great learning opportunity. Overall, I'm accustomed to being around people who aren't exactly like me, and I've been able to learn from exposure to a lot of different perspectives. One of the things I was most impressed by when researching AT&T was its commitment to diversity and inclusion."

Are you accustomed to working with a very large or diverse team of individuals? Assure the interviewer that you can handle an environment that offers diversity.

"In my current company, we have a very diverse group of people that range in age, race, experience, gender and more. I embrace it fully. I believe that when your teams reflect the diversity of your customers, that enables stronger discussions, better insights and breakthrough solutions. I'm encouraged that AT&T is committed to helping all employees reach their full career potential."

What can you tell me about the AT&T Aspire program?

"I really enjoyed learning about the Aspire program in my preparation for this interview. I am passionate about education, and the fact that AT&T, through Aspire, helps drive innovation in education, is very attractive to me. Through this program, students across the country are gaining access to technology that can help them build brighter futures."

Take this opportunity to show that you've researched AT&T and are familiar with some of the programs and services described on the company's website. The interviewer isn't looking for a lot of detail, just an indication that you've taken the time to check out the company's site.

"I don't know a lot of detail about the Aspire program, but I do understand that through Aspire, AT&T is helping support innovation in education and improve technology accessibility. AT&T is investing in innovative education organizations, tools and solutions, and employing technology and capabilities unique to AT&T to make a positive impact on education."

What type of work environment allows you to be the most productive?

"I understand from researching AT&T that your work environment is highly collaborative. I come from a similar environment and have found that I can be very productive when there is the 'buzz' of a team around me. I love the synergy of brainstorming with smart colleagues who are at the top of their fields. I find that they challenge me to really bring my A game, and I appreciate that extra boost of creative energy that comes from sharing ideas with others."

Are you able to be productive in any environment? Are there particular types of situations that you find distracting? Discuss your preferences with the interviewer. Be sure to research the kind of environment offered in this position before the interview.

"I work well in a high pressure, demanding environment that requires you to work smart and make your mark. I am competitive in nature and love to be challenged on a personal and professional level. I am excited and motivated by winning, whether that be winning over a new client, exceeding my KPIs or being recognized for a job well done. I am also motivated and energized by a strong team that supports and challenges one another."

Rate your communication skills from 1-10 with proper examples backing your given rating.

"My current supervisor and co-workers will attest to my clear and concise communication skills. Because I am an open leader, my team also lets me know if I need to clarify anything. Based on this feedback from my current co-workers, I would rate my communication skills as an 8 out of 10. I'm definitely strong in this area, but still have room for improvement as I continue to grow as a leader and become more familiar with AT&T's values."

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in communication? Why did you choose that particular rating for yourself?

"I will rate myself an 8.5 because I believe in being clear, direct and up front with my co-workers. It is the foundation of all success in business. I am always striving to be a better communicator - to always be clear but kind - so I leave the rest of the scale as an aspirational measure."

AT&T was recently named one of Forbes Best Companies to Work For for 2018. How important is this to you in an employer?

"I believe AT&T has committed to providing the kind of environment that takes care of and nurtures its employees so that they can, in turn, take top-quality care of their customers. I believe that awards like these simply exemplify that fact; they aren't end points in and of themselves, but they are strong indicators that an organization has a healthy, vibrant employee culture, which is important to me. I believe this speaks well of AT&T and its ability to offer the kind of environment in which I can thrive."

The interviewer would like to know how well you understand the background of the company, along with your thoughts on the importance of these types of awards. Showcase the research you have conducted on AT&T and offer some light insight into how important you believe these kinds of achievements are for a future employer.

"This is a great question. I wouldn't necessarily seek out an employment opportunity based solely on these kinds of awards, but I do think they are a good indicator of the kind of culture a company has cultivated. Particularly when an award is based on survey responses from your employees, I think that's very telling. For me, the fact that AT&T consistently wins these awards means that your employee experience matches what you say about your team culture, which is a great sign."

Tell me about a time that you have helped a co-worker accomplish an important goal.

"As a Sales Manager, I know that my team is only as successful as the lowest producing employee. It is critical that my entire team is motivated, engaged and on point with their KPIs. Last month I hired a new employee who was struggling significantly with sales. I sat him down and realized that he didn't understand the product. We spent a few hours together over that next week learning the product. In the end, his sales increased by 64%, and he was significantly more confident. It helped the team morale as well."

Being goal-oriented and determined is imperative. What do you do, outside of your own goals, to ensure that everyone on your team is successful? Assure the interviewer that you are always willing to keep the team, or company as a whole, in mind.

"When a new hire starts, I have become the go-to for shadowing. I always make sure to introduce myself to a brand new employee in my same role, and rather than see him or her as a threat, I schedule time for him or her to sit down with me and shadow what I do and how I do it. I want to see everyone succeed and, since there is no real training program in our company, I feel I need to be the change maker in the organization."

"I've enjoyed reading about AT&T's core values, and I'm pleased to see how closely they align with my own personal moral compass. If I had to choose the few that are most personally meaningful from the group, I'd say pursuing excellence, inspiring imagination and embracing freedom. These are all lifelong personal values that I was raised with and try hard every day to live out."

This is your opportunity to show that you have adequately prepared for the interview and are familiar with the company's core values. Also make sure to discuss how those core values align with your own.

"First, I love the fact that AT&T so clearly articulates the ideals the company values, including freedom, inspiration, excellence, truth, equality and making a difference. Every one of these values is extremely important to me, and I believe that when you pull them all together, you exemplify the overall concept of integrity. Integrity is a quality I greatly admire in others and try to pursue, myself. With this kind of core value system, I believe that AT&T is a very good fit for me."

If you were hired today, what would you accomplish first?

"My first priority would be soaking up as much information about T-Mobile's culture, processes and KPIs as possible. I'd embark on a 'listening tour' in order to engage in deep conversation with my team and with my colleagues to discover the greatest current needs and how to prioritize them based on company goals for the quarter. Overall, I would strive to meet or exceed all KPIs for the business quarter as efficiently as possible."

When you start a new position, it is essential to set a goal on how you will make a positive impact quickly after being hired. Tell the interviewer what your impact goal is, should you be the successful candidate and hired at T-Mobile.

"If hired today, I would start with analyzing all quantifiable data from the last month, quarter and year to identify any challenges and set a plan to address them. I'd also look for team and company strengths in order to capitalize on or expand them in order to increase the company's bottom line. Overall, I'd be looking for patterns that help me make an immediate contribution to the team and the organization."

At AT&T, we understand the importance of seamless communication during an emergency. What can you tell me about programs like FirstNet and how they exemplify AT&T's support of public safety officials and first responders?

"I read a little about FirstNet in preparation for this interview, and I'm extremely thankful to AT&T for making this program possible. Very few of us stop to think about the essential services our emergency officials and first responders would need during a sustained emergency situation, but today, police, firefighters and emergency medical teams often lack the interoperable communications capabilities they need to coordinate and communicate effectively when disaster strikes. I appreciate AT&T's long-standing commitment to supporting public safety and their communications needs."

Show the interviewer that you've done your homework and have a high-level understanding of how AT&T provides services to first responders during an emergency. Information about the FirstNet program is available on the AT&T website, so you should make a point to read through prior to your interview.

"I love the fact that AT&T and FirstNet have built and currently manage America's first high-speed wireless broadband network dedicated to first responders. This was a much-needed investment in America's communications infrastructure to support public safety. This network helps make sure first responders and public safety officials have access to the communications technologies they need when they need them most. Doing so allows them to focus on what matters most: protecting communities and saving lives."

Which coding languages are you familiar with?

"I began my current position with very minimal coding skills. I can confidently say that I now have intermediate coding skills - primarily in HTML, CSS and more recently, JavaScript. I'm largely self-taught and started to learn as a hobby to build digital systems on the weekend. I've noticed over the last five years that this knowledge is becoming particularly valuable in my day-to-day work. Are there any coding languages you are specifically looking for?"

The interviewer is looking for evidence of continued learning and improvement. Your desire and willingness to expand your knowledge into different areas of technology is something that will make you a stand out candidate. Discuss the coding languages you are most familiar with and be sure to ask the interviewer if they are looking for any specific coding languages. You want to have the opportunity to address any potential shortcomings in your experience right away.

"Coding has not been the primary focus of my training. With that said, I have worked with individuals who are fluent in CSS and JavaScript. Are there any coding languages that you need me to learn to be successful in this role? I am happy to take any required coursework."

At AT&T, we're committed to cybersecurity - both protecting our customers and helping them protect themselves. What do you know about those efforts?

"From what I've researched, it looks like AT&T has several strong programs in place to help consumers protect themselves and their personal information. I'm particularly drawn to what AT&T is doing to help protect small businesses. In recent years, small and mid-sized organizations have begun adopting cyber threat prevention and detection solutions. But with cyber threats growing in volume and sophistication, these companies are remain targets, yet lack access to affordable response and recovery solutions. AT&T's partnership with the insurance industry to offer affordable cyber security coverage is tremendously empowering for these businesses."

The interviewer is looking for clues that you understand the concerns inherent to their business, along with how AT&T is working to alleviate those on behalf of their customers. Do a little research ahead of time so you're familiar with how AT&T approaches cybersecurity.

"Cyber threats are a key source of stress for individual and business consumers alike. With AT&T's suite of cyber security products and services ranging from mobile threat defense to data and app security, plus cyber security consulting, consumers of all types can work with AT&T to find the solution that gives them the most peace of mind."

How can AT&T continue to perform better than our competitors?

"I believe AT&T has continued to be an industry leader due to its unwavering commitment to quality, its customers and persistent innovation. Some telecommunications companies have fallen behind because they are focused on what competitors are doing, instead of focusing on true and unique innovation. Developing products and solutions that customers want is what is important, and I believe that AT&T has mastered that."

The interviewer would like to know how well you understand the industry, and the business environment that AT&T operates in. Showcase the research you have conducted on AT&T and their competitors.

"I believe that the key to outperforming your competitor is in knowing the needs and wants of your customers better than they do. I have seen the quality and satisfaction surveys that AT&T conducts, as well as the regular customer check-points to ensure overall happiness. I think that this can be even stronger by adding more touch-points and places for customers to leave feedback."

At AT&T, Inc. we seek to hire those who want a long-term fit. What is your long-range career objective?

"I have some pretty lofty career goals. I want to make a big impact within an industry, to push technology and press for always bigger, better ideas. After researching AT&T and learning more about this position, I feel that this role fits beautifully with my future aspirations. The company shares the kind of growth mindset and ambitious passion for success that I value personally."

Onboarding new employees is a time consuming and costly endeavor so the interviewer wants to make sure that this role will be a long-term fit for you. Be open with the interviewer about your dreams within Dyson Ltd., on a long-term basis. Share what promotions you hope to eventually receive and discuss what you wish to learn from being a part of their organization. The key to answering this question is to express to the interviewer that you plan to be employed by the company for many years to come.

"This particular position is a goal that I have set my sights on for quite some time. I believe it is the next step in a long and fulfilling career in the telecommunications industry. The industry leadership that AT&T offers, as well as its culture of ambition and reinvention, are key for me, and I feel confident I will gain skills in this role that will make me successful."

As a manager, what is your greatest weakness?

"As a manager, I feel that my greatest weakness is in separating employees as quickly as possible when they begin to show signs that they are not going to work out. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and have been known to continue trying to nurture people when they really are overdue for termination. I have taken a couple of management training classes focusing on this area, and I'm also working with an industry mentor; I feel I'm improving in being able to objectively approach separating employees who aren't a good fit."

Everyone has his/her weaknesses, and that is OK. Talk to the hiring manager about what you feel you could work on the most, and what you are doing about it. Avoid discussing a weakness that could be detrimental to you securing the position.

"Some feedback that I have received in my current role is that I could improve my technical skills when it comes to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. I have all the basics covered, but when it comes to more complicated formulas or visualization of data, I don't have much experience. To remedy this, I have enrolled in a course for next month, and my goal is to come out of that experience as a more intermediate user."

Do people see you as a trustworthy and honest individual?

"I am told quite often that I am an honest and trustworthy individual, and you will be able to hear that directly from my supervisor when you call for a reference. I fully understand the importance of being able to depend on the honesty of your employees, and my goal would always be to act in the best interests of AT&T, which includes personifying the kind of integrity and honesty that are part of your solutions-focused culture."

It is easy to say that you are trustworthy and honest, but it's best if you can back it up with a review or words from a previous supervisor.

"Yes, I believe that people see me as trustworthy and honest. I was raised with a strong moral compass, and I try hard to be my best, every day. Honesty is something that was always stressed in my home growing up, and a personal value I try very hard to embody. I'm fully committed to embracing the value that AT&T places on honesty and will encourage honesty and integrity in my team members as well."

Why should we hire you to work at AT&T?

"I have over a dozen years of experience in the industry at one of your largest competitors. I have a proven track record of successes there and will bring that knowledge, not only of the industry but also of my creative solutions and how to position our department better against theirs and help elevate your business to the next level. Having been a part of the industry for nearly half of my life, I have seen a ton of change and have adapted to every change or innovation with ease and excitement, and I look forward to doing that at your company as well."

Show the interviewer how your skills, experience, and education relate to the job for which you are being considered. The interviewer wants to see that you have read, and understand the position description, and that you have an understanding of the workplace culture at AT&T.

"You should hire me because I am unlike anyone else you have interviewed before. When I started with my current company, I was the youngest salesperson they had ever hired. That didn't stop me from becoming the #1 sales person in the company within six months. I am dedicated to my craft and engaged in this industry to the point where I commit myself to taking at least one business development or leadership related workshop every business quarter. I am a competitive achiever. You won't be disappointed when you hire me."

We work hard to keep a harmonious workplace culture at AT&T. Have you ever had a conflict with a manager? How did you resolve it?

"Nobody enjoys conflict in the workplace; however, I have experienced it before. In my previous position, there was a miscommunication with my manager related to my work schedule. He accidentally scheduled me on a requested day off, and I felt disrespected. I reacted faster than I should have because once we discussed it, I realized he had made an honest mistake. I am a firm believer that with mutual respect, conflicts can resolve rather quickly. I learned to slow my reaction time."

The interviewer would like to know how you react to a conflict situation, and how active you are in attempting resolution. Use a real-life example if you can. If you are newer to your career, this could include a case of a conflict with a professor (perhaps you disagreed with a grade you received). How you behave in a conflict situation will be critical information for the interviewer.

"I pride myself on being able to maintain a harmonious relationship with those who are considered my leaders. Anytime my relationship with a supervisor hasn't been amazing, I've made a lot of effort to adapt, including trying to understand what the supervisor values most and delivering it, making sure to keep my cool at all times, trying to anticipate his or her needs and adapt to preferences, and also taking every possible leadership opportunity in order to show my worth."

Workers in the telecommunications industry often spend a lot of time on the road and doing off-site work. This means you don't see colleagues regularly. How do you develop trust among your team members when working remotely?

"It can be difficult to build relationships, particularly trust, when you're not in each other's company often. I've found that putting in additional effort, responding to questions and comments in online channels, sending nice messages of congratulations when good work is done, or remembering birthdays, etc. is a good way to build relationships and trust."

The interviewer would like to know you are aware of the challenges that come with a role that requires travel. Show that you are proactive and deliberate in forming relationships with your colleagues despite being on the road.

"I develop trust among my co-workers by showing them that I am reliable, trustworthy, and a hard worker. Showing someone your work ethic is the strongest way to build trust, in my opinion. It's also important to try every way possible to connect. Sometimes familiarity and trust are developed just by being in the same space together, so with that advantage removed, I find that I have to be intentional about finding ways to connect with my colleagues, particularly in ways that aren't even related to the work. Remembering birthdays, asking about their children and sending encouraging words can help bridge the gap that physical distance can create."

What was the biggest change you have had to deal with in your career?

"The biggest change that I have faced in my career so far would be when my previous company went through a major merger. We had to adapt to new processes and management which was quite challenging. In the end, it worked out well for the company, in a financial perspective, so the changes were well worth the challenges we faced initially."

You will likely face change in your career from time to time. Assure the interviewer that you can adapt to significant changes in a professional manner.

"The biggest change I have had to deal with in my career was the economic recession that hit almost immediately after I graduated with my degree. It was incredibly difficult to find a job in my related field. Not wanting to stay idle, I chose to take on an unpaid internship in my field to avoid my skills becoming stagnant. It was a smart choice in the end because, after three months of interning, I was offered a full time, permanent position with that organization. It was a grind, and I learned a lot during that time about patience and endurance."

Why did you choose to become a Telecommunication Technician?

"I wasn't sure what I wanted to do when I completed high school. From a young age, I always liked being active. I knew I would find an office job mundane. A school counselor suggested an internship with a local telecommunications company, and I've never looked back. Since starting my career in telecommunications, I've loved the variety of work, different challenges and interacting with many different people to solve their problems."

The interviewer wants to see your passion and enthusiasm for a profession in the telecommunications industry. Talk about what led you to a career in telecommunications and what helps you to find fulfillment in your day to day work.

"My initial interest in this line of work came from my older brother, who was also a telecommunications technician. I took a couple of courses at our local college and found it interesting. After completing that coursework, I decided to dive in and get my degree in computer science. Being a technician is an exciting goal for me, and I hope to start this career path with AT&T."

What anti-virus programs have you used, and have you ever had difficulty installing them?

"Effective cybersecurity solutions are incredibly important. I've used many different lines of anti-virus software. Norton and AVG are my go-tos. They're large, well-known brands. Installation is simple and straightforward. They also have extensive libraries of information if you do run into difficulty."

The interviewer would like to know your scope of understanding when it comes to different anti-virus programs, the problems that can arise, and the importance of cyber-security. Briefly discuss the anti-virus programs that you have used/installed.

"For my residential clients, I usually suggest AVG. For my commercial clients, my go-to program is Avast Endpoint Protection Advanced. The installation has always been simple for me as both offerings include great step-by-step guides as well as a 24/7 customer support."

Tell us about a time when you successfully installed new or modified software, hardware or programming modules.

"During college, I completed a couple of jobs for friends who had small business requirements. One client was looking for a solution to manage contacts and client information as he was using only a manual spreadsheet. I researched appropriate CMS platforms and advised him on what I thought would best suit his needs. I then went through a mapping process, understanding what he needed the software to do. I customized fields which required basic coding skills, and provided process guides for how he should best use the software going forward."

The interviewer is looking for specific technical knowledge. Be sure to answer specifically and demonstrate your full understanding of these technical tasks.

"Not too long ago I had to do a company-wide Windows 10 installation for one of our clients. I planned the installation with my team; we briefed all 50 employees on what to expect during the installation, and how long we expected the install to take. The project ran seamlessly, and I believe this was because we communicated so clearly along the way with all parties."

At AT&T we like to hire team members who value customer service as much as we do. What is your customer service philosophy?

"My customer service philosophy is that you should always say 'yes' or 'I will try.' When it comes to customer service, I avoid saying the word 'no' as often as possible, because I know my role is to solve a problem for that particular customer. Many customers have given my supervisor positive reviews on their experience with me, and I believe my approach syncs well with the customer- and innovation-centric focus of the AT&T brand."

When you are in a competitive market such as this, you need to bring your 'A' game when it comes to customer service. Draw on any compliments or feedback that you have received from your customers in the past. Assure the interviewer that you are ready to uphold their customer service standards.

"I believe good customer service stems from listening, showing empathy and knowing where to turn to solve a problem for a customer. AT&T has such a strong reputation for technological savvy and persistence, and I will strive to exemplify those qualities as I engage with customers to meet their needs."

AT&T now offers 100 percent fiber network powered by AT&T Fiber in 72 metropolitan areas, with 12 more under way. How familiar are you with fiber network technology?

"The development of fiber technology has been very exciting for AT&T. This particular expansion simply furthers your lead as the largest provider of fiber across the 21 states where AT&T offers home internet service. That continues to set AT&T apart as an innovator and market leader. And your plan to reach at least 14 million locations across at least 84 metro areas by the end of 2019 remains an ambitious and audacious goal that is consistent with the AT&T brand."

Show the interviewer that you're well-versed in not only the latest innovations within the telecommunications industry, but also how AT&T is at the forefront of that kind of innovation. Make sure to check the AT&T website before your interview and look for product and service announcements that exemplify the company's leadership. Then speak to them.

"Fiber technology has been an incredible development across the telecommunications industry, and I love that AT&T remains at its forefront. Fiber technology makes it possible for consumers to quickly access and stream the latest online movies, music and games. They can easily telecommute, video-conference, upload and download photos and videos, and connect faster to the cloud. All of this makes their lives easier and solidifies their loyalty to AT&T."

When have you given back to the community?

"Being an active participant in my community is second nature to me. There are a lot of people who are much less fortunate than I am and it's important for me to set a good example for my kids. When I was younger, I loved to travel, particularly in South East Asia where I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. More recently I support my kids to sponsor a child. I also think it's great that AT&T has volunteer days for staff to give back to the community. It's one of the things that attracted me to the company."

The risk is also reduced, since the project is completed in iterative steps, with testing along the way, rather than waiting until the end of the project. Is Agile project management the primary method used at AT&T?"
