At the time, I needed their signature for student loans, student housing, and pretty much everything that would help me get anywhere. I, consequently, went to a local university that took me in at the last moment. My life became completely derailed when I moved out of the dorms and in with my new boyfriend, whom I had spent the summer with in Chicago- my folks didn't like this life choice either and rather than talking to me about it, they just stopped paying for my school and didn't mention anything to me. My credit was ruined, I got kicked out of school for lack of funds, and around Christmas time that year I was working 5 jobs to make rent and save enough to get back to school.
