Can you handle the sights of surgery? How can you be sure?

Yes I can. I find surgery to be very interesting and I knew I loved surgery when I shadowed in an OR in high school.

I think that I would be able to handle the sight of surgical procedures. I am sure because I have no problems with blood draws and I do not have sensitivity to smells and or sights.

Tell me about a time when you made an error during a surgery.

I have not been in a surgical position before.

I forgot to check the physician preference card. After the surgery had began he asked for his "special" instrument. I had to call down to SPD to obtain it. It taught me to always look at the card.

I had the nurse open up the wrong box of catheter size.

Sterility was compromised during handling of instrument, but was quickly corrected without patient contact.

An error that I have made in my work was a time that I did not follow up to make sure that the information given in the hand off of the patient was actually correct to date. The off going worker gave report on the patient, I questioned the report then and they still gave the same information. I did not follow up and seek out the information on my own when I had doubt.

An accomplishment I'm most proud of would be returning to school. I had a daughter recently, and am a single mom, so having this opportunity to return to school and actually graduate is awesome. I'm very proud of myself and where I'm at.

I observe the patient walking with a limp there was no woofing or scratch on his leg. I quickly call his primary care doctor get an appointment and bring him in test was preform and he had a dot in his leg.

During my time in surgical technology school I had two kids. My husband worked a job that required him to be gone constantly, away from home. He would be gone for weeks. I had no family in the city where we were living, at the time. I maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, and finished my academics at number one in the class. During that time, it was extremely stressful, but I pushed myself to be the best and with hard work, I accomplished it.

I am proud that I chose to go back to school to pursue a career I am passionate about while still working full time.

I allowed myself to get distracted when waitressing 10 tables and the entire restaurant was fully packed in the dining rooms and bar area when my boss started asking me what people were saying about the food and service while in the middle of serving a large crowd. This caused me to slow up and fall off pace for a little while.

I barely had couple hours of sleep a night before that was my mistake I won't make anymore. I was not mentally prepare for the surgery, that make me not able to concentrate at all.

I went to the wrong school to do pick up.

While doing my clinical rotation, I assisted in orthopedic, vascular, neurological, labor& delivery, robotics, general, Ent, endoscopy, cardiac.

Everyone has to bend or break rules sometimes, give me an example when you had to do just that.

I never break the rules because it is one way to assure failure and customer service is of the most importance in my current field. A customer asked for a free drink because he had spent a large sum of money, so I accommodated his request, but I paid for it out of my own pocket. I told him the drink was on my personal tab. He made it up in the tip.

Bending or breaking rules is totally unacceptable, no one should do that, because I am not in the position to bend or break any rules.

In an emergency situation where I had to put my life on the line to pull the patient in.

I believe rules are put in place inorder to protect the staff and most importantly the patients. I can not think of a time when I bent or broke the rules.

I did not like the fact that the manager took tip monies from myself and other waiters. However, I had to accept this a cost of doing business. This is not a very professional environment which is another reason why I am looking to change my career.

My major challenge was to be able to pleased everyone on the movie industry. This industry is a very diverse population, which includes dealing with different people with different backgrounds. I was rough from the begging, but I happened to manage and to understand everyones needs. That made me a better employee.

This would be my first position as a surgical technologist.

Quickly, I feel like it is important to make a decision and get on with the task.

I can make a quick decision when life or death is involved.

In my line of work I usually do not make major decisions, but when I need to I have been able to decide what needs to be done and to follow through. I had a patient who was dying, but her oxygen saturation had dropped to 53%, I decided that she needed oxygen and that we could not wait much longer.

I can make a decision pretty quick. I use to be a day school teacher and I would have to decide whether or not I should allow something to happen in iffish.

I'm a pretty good problem solver. I would make a decision quickly if I had to example I once seen a child about to get hit by a car so I sprung into action and ran and grab the child out the street so the child wouldn't get hit.
