Summer Law Clerk Information
May 25th, 2017

Summer law clerks are paralegals or legal assistants who are employed by law firms as part of their summer internship program. They may be assigned various tasks depending on the firm they are interning with. In general, summer law clerks conduct interviews with new clients to get all the necessary information, prepare opening case memos, assist in drafting manuals and correspondence, and research legal issues.
First, second and third-year law students are typically given the opportunity to work as summer law clerks in established law firms. These legal clerks must have outstanding research and writing skills and must be able to follow instructions and work independently.
At your summer law clerk interview, the interviewing panel will want to know what you are most passionate about in law. What area of law are you interested in pursuing and why? All through the interview, they will also assess your communication skills. When replying to their questions, make sure your answers are convincing and emphasize your passion for fighting for justice. A great way to prepare for your upcoming interview is to think about how you will answer some of the more commonly asked questions. You can find these listed at mock interview questions.
