The interviewers would like to understand what drives your pursuit of a career in the field of optometry. Your core passion is what will keep you going on the toughest of days in university. For the interviewers to understand how to motivate you, they need to know what fires you up!

It is okay to share a personal story when answering this question. Perhaps you can discuss what initiated your interest in attending optometry school to begin with. Whatever drives you, make sure the interviewers can feel your passion!

"There are a number of factors that drive my passion for a career in optometry. If I had to pinpoint one main driver, I would say that helping others to see well, be able to read with ease, and drive safely, are all very fulfilling gifts to give others. Everyone deserves to have full sight, and I love the idea that I could help others in that way."

"I believe having the ability to be able to transform lives, bringing out the confidence within people, and, most importantly, improving the quality in which they live is genuinely self-gratifying. Helping others is what I have done from a young age, so to be able to continue to do so in my career, I feel that is why Optometry is the best fit for me."

"My passion for optometry comes from personal struggles with my sight. At the age of 5, my optometrist diagnosed my left eye with strabismus and lazy eye. As a result, my parents decided I should have surgery. My optometrists' diagnosis saved the vision in my left eye. Then, while in 12th grade, I received a conjunctivitis diagnosis. I had my final exams, so my optometrist made sure my infection was improving with treatment and follow-up calls every two days. She made sure my treatment was a primary concern. Her care inspired me to explore the field of optometry, where I could help people optimize their sight."
