Advice and answer examples written specifically for a Dental Hygienist job interview.
18. What experience do you have performing tasks outside of your role as a hygienist?
How to Answer
The interviewer would like to know that you are the type of team player who will jump in and help your colleagues, whether it's "in your job description" or not. Show the interviewer that you will be proactive in assisting your colleagues when the opportunity arises. Be aware of your state's scope of practice, and think of ways you add value beyond your job description. If you have experience with reception work, taking calls, scheduling, and handling paperwork, those are also useful skills.

Entry Level Example
"As a dental hygienist, I can perform a variety of procedures in addition to routine hygiene procedures. I am able to administer local anesthetic, expose radiographs, serve as a chairside assistant, place and remove matrices for direct restorations, remove sutures, fabricate provisionals, take alginate impressions, and more. I desire to practice at the top of my license under direct or general supervision in order to maximize patient care."

Answer Example
"I have previous experience working with dental insurances. It is important for patients to maximize their benefits, and I always want to provide the insurance company with the required documentation for authorization requests. I also have experience in building schedules that provide greater access to care without overwhelming the office.
