Question 21 of 35

Tell me about your post-secondary education. What was your best course, and which one gave you the most difficulty?

"I am looking to gain on-the-job experience in addition to my high school diploma. I have signed up for online courses, including 'The Ethical Practices of an Adjuster.' In high school, my best course was geometry, as I have an analytical mind, and it came easy to me. The most challenging course was public speaking, as I tend to be quite shy. However, at the end of the class, I became much more comfortable speaking in front of others and actually enjoy it now. Are there any other courses you'd like me to take before starting with your organization?"

  • 21. Tell me about your post-secondary education. What was your best course, and which one gave you the most difficulty?

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

The interviewer is interested in understanding your academic interests and strengths. Asking about your favorite post-secondary coursework can give them an idea of what you excel in and enjoy learning about. On the other hand, asking about what gave you the most difficulty can help them understand your weaknesses and how you handle challenges. It's important to be honest in your answers and provide specific examples to showcase your abilities and problem-solving skills.

However, a junior claims adjuster may have just a high school diploma or GED and on-the-job training and will not have post-secondary training. If that is the case, choose your favorite and most challenging course from high school when responding. If you have post-secondary education, talk to the interviewer about your best coursework and the most difficult in college.

      Answer Example

"My best course while obtaining my Bachelor's of Business Administration was Business, Society, and Ethics. It was my best course because Sociology and Ethics are fascinating topics. I found my most challenging course to be Management Strategy simply because I don't have much management experience."

      Experienced Example

"My first start as a claims adjuster was strictly on-the-job training. However, since my start eighteen years ago, I have taken many professional development workshops and courses, including Strategic Claims Negotiations, Understanding Punitive Damages, and the National Flood Adjuster Training Program. Of the courses I have taken in high school, the most challenging was chemistry, and my favorite was English, as I love to read and write."

"Effective communication enhanced my interactions with clients. Anatomy and Physiology took a structured and organized approach and I transfer those skills to workflow planning; knowledge from this course made medical claims more relatable to me. I've used but never built Databases so Business computing was a challenge. Now my skills with my work database have grown because of it."
