If you are new to this profession, be honest and say that you have not witnessed faulty foundations. You want to avoid saying you have seen these problems if you have not. Then, from what you have been taught, describe some clues that might indicate foundation issues.

"I am familiar with some of the basic foundation issues: warping walls, windows, or doors that are out of square or don't fit correctly: sloping floors and bad drainage. I've seen windows that have been cracked due to inadequate compaction and settling. Patios that are sloped toward the home and cause water to leak into the house. I know there are a lot more possible issues, and I look forward to learning them."

"In my time as a concrete person and carpenter, I have witnessed humps in the foundation causing walls to buckle and be taller than the bottom cord of the truss, doors and windows do not fit properly, and houses will not be square. I strongly feel with my background I would have a strong advantage in that area."
