Auto Upholsterers are highly skilled professionals who specialize in making, repairing and replacing upholstery for all kinds of automobiles. This is no ordinary job. It requires creativity, fitting and sewing skills and high manual dexterity. Auto Upholsterers are in high demand because very few individuals have what it takes to do this job to perfection. As an auto upholsterer, you may work with individual car owners who want to get their upholstery repaired or replaced or you may work with large corporates who have a fleet of vehicles of different types and who want to get customized upholstery to match their brand. In both situations, you will work closely with the client to get a better idea of what they want so that you can deliver a job that meets their specifications. You must be capable of following instructions and also make suggestions for a better outcome.

To work as an auto upholsterer, you must be able to handle industrialized sewing machines as you will be working with heavy fabrics and most of the sewing work will be heavy-duty. Outstanding manual dexterity is crucial and so is finger dexterity as you will need to coordinate your movements to grasp, assemble and manipulate various fabrics and other accessories such as zippers, rivets, grommets and ornamental trim where necessary.

During your interview for an auto upholstery job, it will be important to showcase your skills and emphasize your efficiency. Prospective clients will be looking for a professional who is not just good at their job but who will also deliver the job on time. When going for your interview, take along photographs of previous jobs so your interviewer can see your capabilities first hand. If you have testimonials or referrals from previous clients, carry those along as well.
