Auto damage appraisers are employed by insurance companies to evaluate the damage done to vehicles and estimate the cost of repairs or replacement of parts. They usually collaborate with automotive repair shops in order to ensure that their estimate is correct. Upon confirmation, they then prepare insurance forms to indicate the estimated cost of repairs.
Auto damage appraisers must have a keen eye for detail, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. It takes some amount of experience to be able to make an accurate estimate of how much a particular repair job would cost. The best way to obtain the necessary experience is by doing an apprenticeship under the guidance of an experienced auto damage appraiser. Most employers will also provide a period of on the job training so you can become more familiar with their strategies and policies.
At the interview, the interviewer will want to know if you have had any first-hand job experience in this role. They will also ask you about your career goals and what are your particular strengths as they apply to this job.
