About Atmospheric Scientist

August 17th, 2017

Atmospheric scientists are highly specialized scientists. These skilled professionals use advanced equipment and computer programs to study the scientific and mathematical properties of the atmosphere. Their tasks include measuring air pressure and temperature, preparing short and long term weather forecasts, producing weather maps, and issuing emergency warnings against imminent flash floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other severe weather conditions.
A bachelor's degree in atmospheric science or a related scientific field is the minimum qualification required for anyone wishing to pursue a career as an atmospheric scientist. Addition advanced courses in mathematics, physics and computer programming may be necessary depending on the course you graduated in. In addition to working in laboratories and offices, atmospheric scientists also travel to outdoor locations frequently to observe certain weather events up close or to collect data from the field. Doing an internship will help you learn all of the requirements of the job.
At your interview for an atmospheric scientist position, the prospective employer will want to know why you choose this particular career and if you know exactly what this job entails. They will also want to know some more about your strengths and weaknesses and if you have any game plan to play to your strengths and overcome your weaknesses.
