Appliance repairers install, service and repair all types of home appliances, from small appliances such as vacuum cleaners and microwaves to larger appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, air conditioners and dishwashers. Some repair jobs may be done in the service center but for the most part of the work day, appliance repairers go to clients' homes to install their newly purchased appliances or to troubleshoot and repair older devices.

There is no formal education required to become an appliance repairer. Most workers learn the job while doing an apprenticeship. There are a few technical certification programs available. Completing a relevant certification program can boost your chances of getting a job with a more established company.
