About Apothecary

August 17th, 2017

Apothecaries are medical professionals who are educated and skilled in formulating medications that are dispensed to medical practitioners and patients. Present day apothecaries are called pharmacists. In addition to formulating medicines, they also answer pharmacological questions from healthcare professionals and inform medical practitioners about the correct selection and dosage of newly introduced medicines as well as their interactions and possible adverse effects.

You must have a pharmacy degree to work as an apothecary. Continued education is essential to stay updated with new advancements in medicine and pharmacology. Excellent communication skills and attention to details are crucial attributes for anyone wishing to pursue a career as an apothecary. You must also be able to analyze information and have thorough knowledge of FDA Health Regulations and related legalities. Before applying for a job as an apothecary, get some experience as a pharmaceutical technician, where you will work under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist.

Prospective employers are super careful when hiring an apothecary so be prepared for a tough interview for the job. They will ask you tough questions to assess your suitability for the job and your communication skills. They will want to know whether you are familiar with various laboratory processes and with formulating medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders. You may be given a hypothetical physician request and asked to detect if there are any therapeutical incompatibilities in the request.

The best way to prepare for a successful apothecary job interview is by brushing up on your job knowledge and also going through a few apothecary mock interview questions.
