Amusement and Recreation Attendants Information
August 17th, 2017

Amusement and recreation attendants perform a variety of duties at amusement parks or other recreational facilities such as nature parks and recreational centers. Attendants may maintain and operate amusement machines and rides and generally work closely with the general public. Depending on the facility, the work may be conducted outdoors and attendants may be exposed to extreme temperatures and other adverse weather conditions. It's important to have a strong work ethic and customer service skills. A high school education may be required.

You may be find vacancies by visiting the career site of amusement parks (e.g. Disney, Six Flags, Busch Gardens, water parks, etc.), and other recreational facilities (you can check with your local rec centers and parks department). Other ways to find job openings include local job boards like Craigslist, the classified ads in local papers, as well as at job fairs catering to younger crowds. Because attendants are in constant communication with customers and the general public, the interview will most likely focus on customer service. Another area of concern would be your availability to work. Being able to accommodate last-minute changes in your work schedule will be attractive to the employer.

To prepare for the interview, think of times when you dealt with a difficult person and achieved a positive outcome for them. For instance, if someone is upset about a problem, how did you resolve it so that they were happy? Think of examples of when you were positive, outgoing, and proactive. Finally, do research on the company that you're applying to and make it a point to find 2-3 specific values that you identify with. Alternatively, you can choose specific conditions that attract you to the job—just make sure the conditions are inherent to the job itself. For example, you may want to talk about how you love to interact with people in an active outdoors setting.
