Agricultural technicians spend a major portion of their work day in a laboratory. Their primary role is to assist scientists and agriculturists in their experiments by setting up the laboratory as per their instructions. This may involve adjusting and calibrating testing equipment, preparing culture media amongst others. They also collect and record data and prepare reports and summaries so that it is easier for scientists and agriculturists to proceed with their experienced more easily.
The education requirements to become an agricultural technician vary depending on the type of research involved. In most cases, a high school diploma is sufficient but many companies who are involved in more intensive research will only hire someone who has a bachelor's degree.
Agricultural technicians are highly organized, passionate about lab work and have keen analytical skills.
