Account collectors are hired by all types of companies to recover overdue payments from customers. As part of their job, account collectors locate and give notice to businesses and private customers who owe the payment, negotiate repayment plans, help debtors find solutions so they can make the payments, and when appropriate, they may refer the debtor to a debt counselor.
Employers will require you to have at least a high school diploma before they will consider employing you as an account collector. Many will also prefer applicants who have some kind of experience in this or a related field. Anyone wishing to pursue a career as an account collector must have excellent negotiating, interpersonal, problem-solving, listening and communication skills.
Are you a good negotiator? Do you have what it takes to negotiate with debtors and to help them find solutions so that they can pay back what they owe to the company? At the interview, the interviewing panel may give you a mock situation to assess how you would handle it. Make sure you take your A-game to the interview so you can beat the competition.
