Personal Interview Questions

  1. 1.

Tell me one thing about yourself that you would like to improve upon.

The interviewer would like to know in which way(s) you seek to improve yourself. This question is another way of asking 'What is your greatest weakness?' Saying 'nothing' is not an option here. Self-improvement is required by everyone, no matter what stage we are in, in life and career. Talk to the interviewer about something that you would improve about yourself and what you are planning to do to achieve that.

      Rachelle's Answer

"I would like to improve upon my computer skills. I am currently at an intermediate level with Microsoft Office Suite but would like to advance. I have enrolled in a class this Fall which should help me to reach that goal."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Admin interview

"I would like to improve my skills when it comes to Google's online office tools. I am somewhat familiar with G-Suite but not familiar enough considering I believe these tools are where office management is going. Google offers online tutorials, so I plan to start taking these modules next week."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Manager interview

"Everyone needs improvement in some way. For me, I would like to work on improving my typing skills. I am so accustomed to working on the floor, as a hands-on manager, that I spend very little time in my office on the computer. Being a 'two-finger' typer makes my documentation and report writing tasks a bit more time consuming than I would like."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Marketing interview

"If I could improve anything about myself I would choose to improve my delegation skills. As a creative type, I tend to jump right into a project, thinking that I can do it all. And, I do succeed; however, implementing more of a teamwork mentality never hurts either."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Retail interview

"I believe that post-secondary education is crucial and, unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to go to university. I think it would greatly help me in my retail career to have formal education as that is often a question on job applications. I plan to take online courses in the evening and weekends to complete my degree in business administration and communications."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Sales interview

"I have been thinking about this recently - about how I can improve myself in the workplace and also as an individual. I plan to work on my networking skills this year. I will start with attending more sales related events in the city and getting to know more business owners in the area. This plan can only increase my opportunities when it comes to meeting potential new clients."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Teacher interview

"I would like to expand my coaching and mentoring skills. As an educator, I find that I spend a lot of my time not only teaching, but putting out fires associated with my students' personal lives. School is where they spend the majority of their day, so of course, it makes sense that their personal issues would come up in this setting as well."

      Rachelle's Answer

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Journalist interview

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Statistician interview

"I completed my Bachelor of Mathematics at MIT and would grade my experience as 10/10. If I could choose any area to improve my skills, coming out of university, I would choose to take additional coursework on topology and chaos theory."

      Rachelle's Answer

"The areas of sound engineering I would like to improve upon are (X areas as per the job posting) because I don't have experience with these areas in a professional capacity. However, I have experience with these areas in a volunteer capacity, even though minimal, as I (X equivalent experience in a volunteer capacity). Because of this experience, I know I will be able to successfully perform in a work environment while developing my skills in these areas."

      Ryan's Answer
       for a Medical Assistant interview

"I actually took a course as an EKG tech a couple of years ago and have kept that certification current. My most recent employer used me to perform all of the EKGs in his office."

      Clara's Answer
       for a Call Center interview

"This is something I am working to improve on a daily basis. I believe there is always room to provide better interactions with customers, so I start by meeting regularly with my supervisor and close colleagues to seek feedback and advice on my interactions. Additionally, I try to be as present as possible in our conversations, so I eliminate distractions from my workspace. Finally, I aim to make my interactions personal for each customer, so I will make a point to ask how they're doing and repeat their name throughout the conversation. I am always looking for new ways to improve, so if you also have suggestions then I'd love to hear them!"

      Darby's Answer

      Heather's Answer
       for a ABA Therapist interview

      Rachelle's Answer
for a Campus Tour Guides interview

"I have been practicing projecting my voice so that everyone can hear me loud and clear when I am giving a tour. I had a couple of students tell me that they were having difficulty hearing me the last time I led a tour, so I have made a point to be more enthusiastic and raise my voice just a little bit louder."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Assistant Principal interview

"I would make myself a super-speed reader to breeze through my emails quicker each day which would allow me to have more time to spend interacting with my students and teachers."

      Samantha's Answer
       for a Accounting Clerk interview

"There was a month end when I found an error my manager had made. He asked me to adjust the balances to hide it. I told him I didn't feel comfortable with that and after some convincing, he let me adjust the balances to show the error, which we explained. No one got in trouble due to the low amount."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Sous Chef interview

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a Bailiff interview

"I believe my greatest weakness is that it is hard for me to stop working when there is more to do. I am very focused in my work and wish to complete all tasks by the end of each day. However, it isn't always possible to do so. To improve in that area, I do my best to prioritize and use daily to-do lists to keep track of my duties so that I can get to work as soon as I get to the office in the morning."

      Elisabeth's Answer
       for a Cosmetologist interview

"I have been practicing updo hairstyles because I want to do hair for weddings and work with event planners. I wasn't great at them at first, but the more I practice the better I get. I like the challenge of working with different hair types and learning creative ways to make beautiful designs."

      Ryan's Answer
       for a Human Resources interview

"Many human resource professionals rely on the existing processes of their organization, which is an important factor; however, it should not be 100% of the work. I analyze data from our company's previous hires, successes, and failures of the past, employee attrition data, and more. Then, I make hiring recommendations based on what I see to be working for our organization in the future. Most recently, I helped to reduce our unnecessary workforce spend by replacing four low-performing employees with one full-time employee and one part-time staff member. My director was thankful that I took the time to analyze the issues before recommending a solution that was not as budget-friendly or effective."

      Marcie's Answer
       for a Account Manager interview

"Although I haven't yet had the opportunity to fill an account management or sales role, I know that I'm cut out for this type of job. I really enjoy talking to people and building relationships. I also have a knack for educating others, and I know I can use this talent to teach your clients about your products. When I talk to them, I will identify their pain points and then look to solve those problems with our products."

      Darby's Answer

"Blood has several functions. One primary function is to transport oxygen to the lungs and nutrients throughout the body. It also removes waste products such as carbon dioxide, urea and lactic acid from the body."

      Rachelle's Answer
       for a 3D Animator interview

"I believe I could improve on some technical skills including (a) and (b). Currently I am at a beginner to intermediate level; however, I would be more comfortable at an advanced level.
