How to Answer

The interviewer would like to know more about your passions. This question is intended for the hiring manager to get to know you, outside of your resume. Choose a topic that you are very knowledgeable about and be sure that your passion comes through. You could choose a sport, a genre of movie, a book that has recently inspired you, music, cooking, or dance. Anything!

Professional Answer Examples
Answer example

"Great question! If I could teach you about any topic, I would teach you about overcoming fears in public speaking. I have been a ToastMaster's member for two years now and have learned a great deal on the topic of public speaking and giving presentations. Having used to be afraid of public speaking, and knowing that it is one of the most common human fears, I love to share my story of overcoming this fear."

Answer example

"I am a pro at parenting, considering I have raised three boys! If I could teach you about any topic, I would focus there. As a parent, I feel that I especially excelled in the areas of motivating my kids to do their chores, leading by example, not a dictatorship, and teaching my kids the importance of respecting others. These are all lessons I have instilled in my children and they translate to the workplace too."

Answer example

"I have recently been diving into 'The 4-Hour Workweek', by Tim Ferriss. It's all about maximizing your opportunities using the time that you have. I love to teach these concepts to anyone who will listen. The basics include automation, defining your objectives, and eliminating distractions."

Answer example

"If I could teach you any subject, unrelated to work, I would teach about Civil Rights. Ever since I was young, I became obsessed with reading books on these topics. Most kids were reading comic books, but I would be found reading speeches, by Martin Luther King Jr, and other activists. I do feel that Civil Rights is a topic everyone should be interested and involved in."

Answer example

"Last year, I started a YouTube channel focused on makeup tutorials. It's exploded to the point where I post a new tutorial twice per week. If I could teach you anything, I would choose the art of contouring, and the cat eye - two of makeup's most challenging tasks for beginners."

Answer example

"In addition to sales and negotiations, I am very passionate about boxing. I have taken boxing lessons since I was ten years old. The sport gave me a great deal of confidence and also helped me to stick up for myself in a mature way when I experienced bullying. If I could teach you anything, I would start with how to deliver a jab, jab, hook sequence properly."

Answer example

"I teach my students a great deal about basic math concepts, the planet, and lessons from history. What I would teach you about, if given a chance, would be the incredible advancements we see when it comes to future life on Mars. There are key advances that we need to colonize Mars, including water extraction successfully, and artificial sunlight since Mars only receives 60% of the Earth's sunlight. I could go on for days on this subject. It's fascinating to me."
