What are your salary requirements?
Advice
Talking about salary requirements in an interview can be one of the most challenging questions, even though it seems very straight forward. Be sure to know what the salary range is before the interview. If an interviewer is asking you this question during an interview, whether it is a phone interview or face to face, they are interested learning a few things. First, they may still be talking to other candidates and they want to make sure you are in the range for what they can pay. You want to be careful not to give them a specific number. They also might be very interested in you and curious about what you are looking for in a salary to see if they can meet your expectations. Here is an example of how you can answer this question: "I noticed on the job posting you guys are willing to pay $40-45k for the position. I think that a salary within that range definitely meet my needs is fair considering my years of experience in the field." Try to be brief and concise. You want the interviewer to see your value and the skills you have to offer the company. Do yourself a favor and research salaries for that role in your city to make sure it measures up to what other companies are offering!

"In my next position, I would like to see a fair increase from the salary I am currently earning. I am currently earning a base salary of $75K/year."
"Salaries can be negotiable, but I do not want to decrease my pay. This position is a bit of a lateral move, but I do bring some new skills to it, so I would like a small increase, maybe 10% above where I am currently."
