"The achievement I am most proud of on my path to becoming a pharmacist was completing my undergrad at the top of my class with a 4.2 GPA. While maintaining solid grades, I was also President of our school's Diversity Club and spent time volunteering at the local food bank and battered women's and children's shelter to give back to my community."

The interviewers would like to know what areas of achievement are most important to you. Perhaps you have maintained an exceptional GPA or excelled in school while working a part-time job. Maybe you finished top of your class and received a special award for your achievements. Think of any accolades you may have received along the way to becoming a pharmacist.

There is no incorrect answer to this question, as this is a personal achievement. However, you want to choose an accomplishment that will make you stand out to the interviewers, making them want to choose you over other candidates.

"I am proud of the amount of grit and perseverance I've gained from rejections, trials, and minor setbacks. I was also overcoming my battle with depression and anxiety. Without my determination for this, I would not be in this seat today."

"I am proud of my ability to persevere to reach this point in my dreams. I have had many downfalls and was able to overcome those. I took on the challenge of doing my accelerated master's program online and being able to apply to pharmacy school."

The interviewers want to make sure that all of your questions about the university or pharmacy program are answered during the interview. It is best to ask at least a question or two, showing the interviewers your eagerness to learn all you can. "Experiencing a setback is always disappointing and can be very disheartening, especially when involving a project that I have put a lot of time and effort into. I understand that setbacks happen to everyone - despite their level of expertise or years of experience. If I experience a major setback, I will take a few moments to debrief internally, get some fresh air if possible, or discuss what I could have done differently with a mentor. Then, I move on. Rather than dwell on my mistakes, I choose to learn from them."

Everyone handles the stress and disappointment of setbacks differently. When you work in the medical field, those setbacks can be amplified. While attending university, even more so because your grades can greatly determine your future career's success. Discuss with the interviewers how you typically cope with setbacks.

The interviewers want to hear that you can handle setbacks with poise and maturity. You may encounter setbacks during your studies at Temple University, and the interviewers want to know that you can move forward while using your critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

"Setbacks do hurt us emotionally and mentally, but relying on them and keep stressing yourself about them is never helpful, I personally believe to learn from every experience and move on to a stronger environment, if anything, talk about the issue with someone and try to learn from the experience."

"I have encountered a few setbacks in my life. I can say that I do take a moment to let emotions out but then I pick myself up and find ways to resolve my situation since mourning won't solve it. I would try to think of positive situations in the moment of distress."

"I agree that self-development is crucial for continual growth and achievement. I am committed to investing in myself, and some ways I do this is by attending personal development workshops and meeting with my mentor monthly. I also plan on taking leadership courses and completing my continuing education hours once finished with the pharmacy program."

A self-development plan is incredibly important for anyone, regardless of their future profession. The interviewers want to know your plan and how attending Temple University will benefit that plan. If they are going to invest in you, they need to know that you also plan to invest in yourself. "There are several factors that drive my passion for a career in the area of pharmaceuticals. If I had to pinpoint one main driver, helping others through chronic pain or debilitating disease management is the most significant. Everyone deserves access to important medications, and I plan to live that mantra by being the best at what I do, and giving my all to my patients/customers, every day."

The interviewers would like to understand what drives your pursuit of a career as a pharmacist. Your core passion is what will keep you going on the toughest days at Temple University. For the interviewers to understand how to motivate you, they need to know what fires you up!

It is okay to share a personal story when answering this question. Perhaps you can discuss what initiated your interest in becoming a pharmacist, to begin with. Whatever drives you, make sure the interviewers can feel your passion.

"I am inspired by the process of developing a drug and following through with clinical trials until the drug becomes active in the market. As many of these drugs impact many people's lives in many ways such as chemotherapy drugs."

Explain your understanding of the day to day responsibilities of a pharmacist.

"I understand that my day-to-day responsibilities as a pharmacist will include speaking with customers, helping them understand their prescription dosages, and answering many of the same questions. I know it won't always be glamorous, and it can be physically taxing as there is a lot of standing during the day. With that said, I look forward to coaching my customers on proper drug use and dosages and creating lasting relationships with those in the community where I work."

The interviewers want to know that you have a realistic idea of what your career will look like once you've completed the pharmacy program at Temple University. It's important to understand that you may not be exactly where you want to be immediately after graduating. Show the interviewers that you have a realistic understanding of what your day-to-day life will look like once you have graduated.

How would you react if you discovered a classmate cheating?

"I believe an honorable person will do what is right even when nobody is looking. The pharmaceutical industry deserves only honorable graduates. For that reason, I would tell a superior if I found a classmate cheating."

This honesty-based question is meant to test your character and reveal how you deal with awkward or uncomfortable situations. If you have found yourself in a situation like this, you can draw on that story for your reply. Be careful not to name any names or throw anyone under the bus, as you can rarely recover from unsavory behavior like that in an interview.

There are only two ways to answer this question. First, you can approach the classmate privately and tell them what you saw, giving them a chance to explain themselves. If they were cheating, you could give them the ultimatum to approach your professor, or you will do so. Secondly, you can avoid a confrontation with your classmate and go straight to the professor with your findings. How you respond depends on your personality, morals, and values.

"I am a student of integrity, so if I caught a classmate cheating, I would go to the professor. As mentioned before, an essential quality a pharmacist should possess is their ability to act with integrity and honesty."

"I would be disappointed and advise the student that this is something that isn't worth it. It's better if one works hard for the grade and achieves that success."

How has COVID-19 and other pandemics of the past impacted the profession of a pharmacist?

"COVID-19 and other pandemics have left a significant impact on the pharmaceutical profession, including how we provide medications to patients, the increased demand for particular meds, the risk put on support staff, and a gap in PPE supply and demand. One significant impact that has interested me most is how we dispense medications, ranking particular meds based on importance. During COVID-19, pharmacists have experienced detrimental drug shortages due to manufacturing and transportation challenges. In the future, pharmacists will have to revisit their distribution model and how they approach collaborating with biotech and pharmaceutical companies. I look forward to learning about the long-term impact as I dive deeper into the pharmaceutical profession."

Many pharma professionals are discussing the 'COVID-ified future' of pharmaceuticals. The interviewers want evidence that you maintain an interest in current events and other conversations that may impact your future as a pharmacist. Discuss what you know about the impact of health pandemics and how they leave an imprint on the pharmaceutical profession.

Since the world has been in a pandemic for the past few years, the interviewers expect you to be up-to-date on current events and how the pandemic has affected the pharmaceutical industry. Explain what you have learned and how it is affecting pharmacists all over the world.

"Covid-19 has put pharmacists under high stress as they dealt with a shortage of staff as well increase in the demand for pharmacists to provide the best care while under a lot of stress."

What are you reading right now?

"Currently, I am reading 'Ego is the Enemy' by Ryan Holiday. It is a book about ambition, resilience, and success. I feel that everyone should read it, and it comes highly recommended."

The interviewers want to hear if you feed your mind regularly, and if so, what kind of literature you prefer and why. Talk to the interviewers about a book that you are currently reading. If you are not currently reading a book - talk about one that has impacted you the most.

The interviewers do not expect you always to have your head in a pharmacology book. They want to see that you take time for pleasurable events and know how to have a healthy work/life balance. If you are not an avid reader during your down time, mention any Ted Talks or podcasts you listen to for inspiration.

"I am currently not reading anything. However, I am listening to daily devotional podcasts to keep me level headed and grounded. It speaks on how to remain ambitious, resilient, and successful."

If you could meet anyone in the history of medicine, who would you choose and why?

"If I could meet anyone in the history of medicine, I would go back to the very beginning and meet Hippocrates. I find it fascinating that he was the first person ever to believe that disease and death were not a result of the anger of the Gods. I would ask him what that first conversation sounded like when he first said to others that disease is not caused by superstitious belief. He would have had to have faced so many roadblocks, yet, he continued to believe in his work."

This is more of a personal interest question, making it tough to give a wrong answer. Think back to any of the 'founding fathers' (and mothers!) of medicine. There may be someone who has a story that resonates with you the most. Perhaps that person discovered/created/invented something that you admire. It's also a great idea to think of the most burning question you would have for that individual. Be sure to add passion to your answer so the interviewers can sense your genuine interest.

Focus on choosing one person in the history of medicine you admire the most. While there may be many people in the history of medicine you would like to meet, the interviewers want you to choose one that stands out to you the most.

"If I could meet anyone in the history of medicine it would be Marie Elizabeth Zakrzewska, not only because she was a female but also because of her accomplishment and hard work, I am stunned by her work of creating a hospital for women and children, something similar to what I want to do, but with creating a pharmacy that will be affordable for the poorer community."

Walk us through your approach to studying for exams.

"I am a well-organized student and have devised a plan that works very well for me. When I prepare for an exam, I map out the content I need to learn and divide that content over the number of days I have available to prepare. When I create a study calendar, I leave the final three days leading up to the exam to review the entire library of content. I am a big fan of study aids, as I believe they work much better than simply reading and re-reading the materials. Aids such as flashcards are much more helpful to me than highlighting my notes. I also create practice problems and, when possible, will pair up with a fellow student to test each other in written form or verbal lightning rounds. My approach has been successful, as reflected in my overall GPA."

The greater your academic performance, the better the university's metrics will be. For this reason, the interviewers want to choose pharmacy students who will be diligent in their studies and perform well on exams. Perhaps you create your own study aids. You may prefer to prepare for exams in a group setting. Whatever your approach, take the time to walk the interviewers through your process while providing as much detail as possible.

There is no incorrect answer unless you do not have a systematic method to study for exams. The interviewers want to choose candidates who have proven study methods and who will be diligent students.

When you become a pharmacist, how will you improve the profession?

"I have chosen to become a pharmacist because of the broad impact I can make on my patients, their families, and my community as a whole. Being a pharmacist is much more than dispensing medication. It's a career where I can get to know many of my patients on a closer level since they will visit me regularly for prescription refills. I can educate my patients on proper dosing, which impacts their day, including side-effect management, appetite levels, sleep quality, and even mental clarity. As a pharmacist, I will improve the profession by bringing this whole-health knowledge and mindset to my patients. When my patients feel motivated and empowered to take their entire health into their hands, it will create a trickle-down effect in other aspects of their lives, including their family members' well-being. This ripple will help create greater respect for proper medicating, improve how the public views our profession, and highlight how patients can rely on a pharmacist to help them manage their health."

The interviewers want to see evidence that you plan on making a positive and lasting impact on the pharmaceutical profession. To provide a memorable response, be as specific as possible. Perhaps you desire to work with a particular population or community. Maybe your vow as a pharmacist is to teach your patients about proper dosing. Discuss with passion and enthusiasm how you plan to improve the pharmaceutical profession and use your knowledge for the greater good.

While explaining how you will improve the pharmaceutical profession, you want to avoid appearing arrogant or saying anything disparaging about pharmacists currently working in the industry. If you speak poorly of others or act cocky, the interviewers will choose another candidate for the pharmacy program.

What do you know about Temple University?

"The passion for community and elevated learning at Temple University really jumps out to me. It is probably why you are the longest-standing university in the entire state. I also love the effort that Temple University puts in when it comes to residencies and placements for your pharmacy program graduates. It is undeniable that your faculty goes beyond the general expectations of a university to ensure its students' success."

The interviewers at Temple University likely have seen hundreds of applicants, so a question like this is an opportunity for you to stand out. If you are lucky enough to land an interview, make some effort to research the school. You don't need to be an expert on their entire history, but you do need to be knowledgeable about their programs, culture, and recent accolades.

Talk about the last pharma-related article you read. What did you learn?

"I was reading 'World Pharma News' the other day, an online publication I read every week. The article that caught my eye discussed how Pfizer and BioNTech are due to supply the U.S. with 100 million additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, totaling the number of doses to 200 million. I was quite interested to hear that the government has agreed to pay $1.95 billion for these additional doses. Of course, the hope is that these additional doses will help us to protect more individuals and end this pandemic more rapidly."

The interviewers want to know that you stay involved with the industry news and topics that impact your future career and interests. Show the interviewers that you rely on reputable sources for your information and remain actively involved in the conversations that affect your future career as a pharmacist. Share some details surrounding an industry-related article you recently read, being ready to discuss what you found most interesting.

It is best if the latest article you read was fairly current. If you discuss an article you read five years ago, the interviewers will doubt your desire to stay up on current events.

What other pharmacy programs have you applied to, and where does Temple University rank?

"I have applied to four other schools. Those schools are A, B, C, and D. However, Temple University ranks number one on my list because you are highly regarded in the pharmaceutical industry, and your reputation is unmatched. I would be so proud to say that I graduated from this school."

The interviewers would like to understand the types of schools you are interested in. Knowing where you are applying will help them to better understand if Temple University will meet your specific needs and educational desires or goals. You should be transparent when answering this question but avoid saying anything offensive, such as, 'this school is my last choice.' Choose the number one reason you want to attend Temple University and focus on that.

If you want to be highly considered as a candidate, you should let the interviewers know that Temple University is the only school you wish to attend. Or, at the very least, that Temple University ranks number one on your list.

"I have not applied for any other programs because my heart is set on Temple U. The reputation this school holds is unmatched, and I would be so proud to say that I graduated with my degree from this school. I would love to attend a school who regarded highly in the pharmaceutical industry."

Prescription drug abuse is a widespread issue. How will you recognize the signs of drug abuse in your customers? How would you handle a situation like this?

"I understand that prescription drug abuse is an epidemic and that, as a pharmacist, I must be diligent when it comes to recognizing the signs of abuse in my customers/patients. I have researched this social issue a great deal. I know that some of the signs include a patient being adamant about receiving a certain brand of drug, doctor-hopping, and even forging doctor's prescriptions. I will be committed during my career to diligence and awareness of this social issue."

The interviewers want to know that you are familiar with the potential dark side of pharmaceutical drugs. Show that you will be responsible as a pharmacist and that you are capable of recognizing the signs of drug addiction.

Since you have not entered the pharmacy program, you may not understand all the signs of prescription drug abuse and how to deal with patients you suspect of abusing drugs. If you are unaware of the signs and what to do, be honest with the interviewers and let them know you look forward to learning more when accepted into the program.

How well do you think you have performed in this interview today?

"Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. I was well prepared for the questions you asked me, and I am happy with my interview performance. Can I ask if there is anything I can clarify for you or elaborate on from today's conversation?"

This question is a stress test! The interviewers want to know if you are happy with your performance in the interview. There is always room for improvement; however, you want to avoid picking your interview apart. If you feel you could have performed better: 'I feel that I was well prepared for most of the questions you have asked me today; however, I would like to clarify my answer on one particular point....' Then, return to the question you may have stumbled on and answer how you would have liked the first time.If you feel the interview went well: 'I feel that I was well prepared for the questions that you asked me today and am happy with my performance in this interview. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me.' Then, ask the interviewers if there is anything you can clarify or elaborate on from your interview.

You want to appear confident in your interview skills, even if you feel you may have stumbled a bit. If you were nervous and thought you could have performed better, be honest in your response. The interviewers understand candidates will be nervous in their interviews, which is a normal response.

"I think I was well prepared for this interview today, if there's anything that you want me to clarify, I am more than happy to do that for you."

What is your favorite area of pharmacology so far? Which is your least favorite? Why?

"At this point in my studies, I am most interested in Clinical Pharmacology as I have always had a passion for research and new developments. The area of pharmacology that I find to be my least favorite so far is Pharmacogenetics. I have not excelled in genetic drug responses; however, I have hired a tutor to ensure my grades remain above average regardless of my natural interest."

By understanding your strongest areas of interest, the interviewers can predict which courses you will enjoy most at Temple University and how you will fit into their student population and culture. Talk about your strongest interests when it comes to the field of pharmacology.

After describing your strongest area of pharmacology and why it is your favorite, remember to explain your least favorite area and why. "My most favorite area of pharmacology is Pharmacodynamic because it refers to the effects of particular drugs and my least favorite part will be pharmacogenetics, because I don't have a good history with genetics, but I will still try my best and find ways such as tutoring to succeed in such a subject."

Temple University must exercise great discernment when choosing applicants. What is your plan if you are not accepted into the pharmacy program this year?

"Should I not be accepted into your pharmacy program the first time, I plan to reapply the following year. I would take the year to upgrade any required courses and prepare an even stronger application. My life's goal is to become a pharmacist, and I certainly won't take one rejection as a final answer."

The interviewers want to know that you have thought out all options and scenarios if you are not accepted to Temple University. Your answer to this question should also show the interviewers that your interest in the healthcare field goes deeper than your acceptance into pharmacy school. If you are not accepted, show that you will take a different path as a pharmaceutical assistant or sales representative, for instance. Alternatively, you can let the interviewers know that one rejection won't stop you at all! Talk about your plan to reapply if rejected. Whatever path you choose, you must show the interviewers you have confidence and drive. It'll take more than one rejection to keep you down!

Focus on providing an honest answer to this question. Let the interviewers know if you would take a rejection into the program as a sign to pursue another career or if you would find out how to improve and reapply at a later date.

"If I don't get accepted into the program this year, I will still pursue my degree and plan to work in the pharmaceutical industry. Once I have gained all the requirements that qualify me to re-apply, I will then do so."

Why are you choosing to become a pharmacist over other medical professions?

"There are many rewarding professions that I could have pursued within the healthcare industry; however, I specifically chose to become a pharmacist because I have experienced firsthand how the care and attention of a diligent pharmacist can change a person's life. From a young age, I had severe environmental and drug-related allergies. I suffered for years from headaches and ear infections and often reacted to medications prescribed to me. It wasn't until I visited a highly attentive pharmacist that I was told some of my health issues might be due to medication sensitivities. I returned to my family doctor, who referred me to an allergist. Ultimately, these medical professionals put me on the right self-care plan while alleviating many of my long-term symptoms. I already knew I wanted to work in the medical industry; however, this experience prompted me to look further into this profession. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more about medications and help my future clients transform their health through proper prescribing and dosing."

With so many career options available in the healthcare realm, the interviewers would like to know precisely why you have chosen to pursue a career as a pharmacist. The more specific you can be in your response, the more genuine your reply will feel. When you think about the pharmaceutical industry compared to other healthcare professions, be clear about what factors pushed you to focus on pharma. This question is an excellent opportunity to tell a brief story of the factors that prompted your keen interest in becoming a pharmacist.

Now is an excellent time to share a personal story of why you chose to pursue a career as a pharmacist over other medical professions. Perhaps a family member is a pharmacist, or you have a professor or guidance counselor who told you that you would be perfect for this career. Whatever your reason for becoming a pharmacist, the interviewers genuinely want to know what inspired you to choose this career path.

Do you have aspirations to own a pharmacy in the future? If so, what appeals to you about business ownership?

"My ultimate goal would be to open my own pharmacy one day, as I want to provide patients with individual attention and a wider variety of hand-picked products. I also envision myself extending assistance to my community. For instance, I could give complimentary flu shots to those who do not have insurance coverage. I have an entrepreneurial spirit, so opening my own pharmacy would suit me when I am ready to take that leap."

The interviewer wants to know about your future career plans and if you have intentions of joining an existing pharmacy or buying your own. Be honest about your goals and desire for your career path.

There is no wrong answer to this question, as they ask about your goals and aspirations. If you are not interested in owning your own pharmacy, no problem. If you have dreams of owning a pharmacy, explain why business ownership appeals to you.

"Yes, my ultimate goal is to open my own independent pharmacy, I can be sure that I have given back to the community as a responsible pharmacist."

Tuition at Temple University is expensive. Have you made a solid financial plan for tuition costs and beyond?

"I have been making arrangements for many years to afford attendance at Temple University. My finances are in good order, and I have a solid financial plan for tuition, food, and lodging."

The interviewers want to be assured that you will be able to afford the tuition associated with Temple University. Pharmacy school is an investment, and you need to be sure you can handle the financial requirements associated with your acceptance. Keep your answer brief and to the point. Let the interviewers know you have a solid financial plan for your schooling.

What are your thoughts on alternative medicine? Which aspects do you agree and disagree with?

"Although I am a supporter of traditional medicine, I do understand that alternative medicine can offer great benefits for some. I agree that there is a science behind alternative medicine; however, alternative medicine should be more strictly regulated. People need to educate themselves better before jumping into 'all-natural' therapy. Prescribed teas and herbs can be dangerous if taken in the wrong dosages. Even though it is natural, it doesn't mean your body will like it. Just like with all types of medicine and practices, research and education are very important."

Alternative medicine can be a controversial subject. Some healthcare professionals love it, some are highly skeptical, and some people's opinions land somewhere in the middle.Just like you would answer a sensitive question surrounding politics or religion, it's best to support both sides in some aspect when delivering your response. If you plan to voice a highly one-sided opinion, be prepared to give substantial evidence-based thoughts supporting your viewpoint.

This is a two-part question, and the interviewers want to hear your thoughts on both. Be sure to answer what parts of alternative medicine you agree with and which you disagree with, providing examples to support both.

"My thoughts on alternative medicine are that it is good to have medicine that helps people and satisfies their needs, even though I highly support traditional medicines but I am open to exploring anything helpful."

Who in your life mentors or inspires you?

"I find inspiration in a variety of people and things. I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me has been my grandmother. She always had a smile on her face no matter how hard she worked, and she loved everyone. She was well respected and always gave more than she received. I try to live like her as much as I can."

Focus on describing a person that will not be controversial to the interviewers. For example, suppose you use a religious or political figure that inspires and motivates you. In that case, you may offend interviewers who do not have the same religious or political beliefs as you.

"My family is incredibly proud of me for pursuing a career as a pharmacist. My father is especially keen as he graduated from Temple University and has worked as a pharmacist for 20 years. My parents and my older brother live in the area, so I will have a robust and encouraging support system should I be accepted into Temple University."

"I read springer.com regularly. I also subscribe to the International Journal of Pharma Medicine and Biological Sciences. Diversifying where my news comes from is important, and I would love some fresh suggestions. What are your favorite places for news on current trends?"

The interviewers want to see your keen interest in continually learning your craft. The drug and pharma industry is ever-changing! Talk about how you stay up to date on industry trends, breakthroughs, social concerns, and more.

List a few medical journals you like to read and discuss how often you dive into pharma-related news. Perhaps you subscribe to a particular magazine, blog, or podcast, or follow certain social media accounts. It's also a great idea to ask the interviewers about their favorite ways to stay in touch on pharma-related current events. Asking this question in return can make for great dialogue, and you never know what you will learn!

"I am an avid marathon runner and have traveled to 10 countries in the last three years to compete in various races. I am a competitive individual and enjoy keeping fit. My competitive nature will benefit me as a student and future pharmacist. I will have a consistent drive to deliver my best work while showing an innate need to remain top-of-the-game as a provider."

"I feel the most concerning issue in the pharmaceutical industry is the continual rise of drug prices. The best medications should be accessible to anyone, regardless of financial or social status. There has been a rising concern with big pharma creating drugs and pricing them so high that they are unattainable to most. What do you feel are the most concerning issues facing the pharmaceutical industry today?"

Being an aspiring student means that you need to take a keen interest in current events by closely following the challenges the pharmaceutical industry faces. The interviewers want to see that your interest is deep and that you spend time learning and understanding the challenges you will face in your future career as a pharmacist.Discuss what you feel to be a primary concerning issue, and be sure to ask the interviewers what they see as the most concerning issue in the field of pharmacology today. "The most important quality for a pharmacist to possess is integrity. A pharmacist with integrity is a medical professional who always puts their patients and customers first. They will relentlessly ensure proper care and dosing for all and that their patients receive the best drug options available. Integrity is an essential quality for me, so I am actively working on increasing my integrity level in various personal and professional situations. I show integrity by keeping my appointments and commitments and fulfilling my promises."

The interviewers want to see that you have some insight into a pharmacist's desired qualities and characteristics. This is an opportunity to give a unique answer, so try to dig deeper than 'good communicator' or 'strong attention to detail.' When you encounter academic difficulty, how do you react?

"When I have encountered academic difficulty in the past, I have recognized the issue early and approached my professor for additional information or study resources. With these resources, I will either increase the time spent reviewing the class material or engage another person to increase my understanding of the topic. For instance, during my biophysical chemistry class this year, I fell behind as we approached the subject of molecular interactions. To ensure my success, I hired a Department of Chemistry tutor. This approach was beneficial, and I gained a much clearer understanding of the subject, which helped my grade a great deal. Should I encounter difficulties while attending this pharmacy program, I will not hesitate to seek outside assistance."

Every pharmacy student will experience academic challenges - you are not alone when encountering difficulties! The interviewers would like to know that you will be able to handle roadblocks with as much emotional intelligence and poise as possible.

Perhaps you reach out to other students when you encounter difficulties in your academic studies. Maybe you have conversations with your professors, or perhaps you engage a tutor to help you better understand the material. Discuss your approach to meeting challenges and how this approach has benefitted you in the past.

"It's hard to say that one has encountered academic difficulty with that being said I'm sure I will come across a lot more with this next step in my academic journey. First, I take a moment to allow emotions to come out which would mean I would cry. Afterward, I would work on a game plan to solve the issue at hand and focus on adjusting to the circumstance I am in because mourning won't solve anything."

How do you respond to feedback and criticism? Describe a situation where your work was criticized. What was your immediate reaction to the situation?

"Last year, I received a low grade on a chemistry project. When I approached my professor about the low grade, he said, 'You can do better. I expected more from you.' I was taken aback at first, but once I had time to absorb what was said, I realized that he expected more from me because he had high expectations of what I could do. It was a compliment and a challenge; all rolled into one! I re-did the assignment with more enthusiasm and passion the second time around. My grade improved significantly, and I thanked my professor for holding me to a higher standard."

The interviewers want to see that you are confident and mature enough to accept feedback and criticism positively, even when it is unsolicited. Not all feedback will be delivered in a friendly, easy-to-absorb manner. Think of a time when you received feedback or criticism that was a bit hurtful or surprising. Discuss how you reacted productively.

Tell a story that shows the interviewers how you take feedback or criticism and learn from it. Talk about how you successfully implemented changes in response to the feedback you have received in the past.

"I take criticism and feedback very seriously, and I do tend to take some learning lessons from criticism and feedback, a matter of fact I need feedback and criticism to learn. I can recall a situation where I was criticized back in my second year of college, when I was struggling in a class and my grades went extremely down, my professor then suggested me a way to study better, after adapting what he told me, I did so much better in my class."

"I think feedback is important because it gives one an opportunity to grow because sometimes it's hard for one to see all their flaws alone. This gives a chance for one to step back and work on themselves to better themselves."

How do you plan to cope with the immense workload and expectations of attending our pharmacy program?

"I have formed a three-pronged plan to tackle the stressors that may arise during my pharmaceutical program. These three approaches will address my academic stress, the emotional strain of adjusting to my new surroundings as I relocate, and the financial strain associated with high tuition. For academic stress, I plan to create a study schedule that I will stick to closely. I will join study groups to help me gain a broader perspective from others, and I have made arrangements for a part-time tutor if needed. For the strain that will result from uprooting myself, I have planned to join a couple of university clubs to get to know other students and make new friends, avoiding feelings of loneliness. I also plan to FaceTime my family every week to prevent myself from feeling homesick. The financial commitment of becoming a pharmacist is a reality that I have come to terms with. I have created a solid financial plan to pay back my loans, and I enlisted a financial advisor to help me create a student budget that I will adhere to closely. I feel well-prepared to cope with and address the immense workload and other expectations ahead of me as a pharmacy school student."

The topics have included communication, personability, multi-tasking, organization, and even persuasive writing. I plan to take these skills and apply them to my graduate studies as well. I have the classroom. I regularly seek out additional educational opportunities to continue gaining new knowledge related to the pharmaceutical field."

"Yes, I am aware of malpractice cases in the pharmaceutical field, and it can be disheartening to hear these stories. Although I would be diligent with my best work, perfection is not guaranteed, and mistakes happen. If I faced a situation of negligence or wrongdoing, I would take full responsibility for my part in the situation. I would defend my expertise and decision-making skills at the same time. The best thing any medical professional can do is try their best every day, document their actions clearly, and choose to work with colleagues you trust."

Pharmacists, along with all other medical professionals, can be vulnerable to accusations of malpractice and negligence. The interviewers want to know how you will react if you find yourself involved or aware of malpractice or a charge of negligence. They want to hear your problem-solving process and if you will start panicking or stay calm and try to figure out a solution for the problem at hand. Tell the interviewers how you react in problematic situations. Demonstrate your wisdom and problem-solving skills. Try to keep the answer precise and remain positive.

Assure the interviewers that you will do everything possible to avoid a malpractice suit or charge of negligence. Being a proactive pharmacist and doing everything you have been taught shows the interviewers that you will be a diligent pharmacist with integrity.

"I have come across a few cases of pharmacist malpractice such as Steinberg vs California State Board of Pharmacy and Burton vs Walgreens. The Burton vs Walgreens case involved dispensing Diovan and lithium leaving the patient with carpal tunnel syndrome and polyneuropathy. In the future, I plan on trying my best to avoid such cases but in the case that it happens I would try to go over the rules and regulations to handle the case in an appropriate manner."
