1st Answer Example
"Working in the Supply Chain world and leading an efficient team, I consistently preach to my team about working smarter rather than harder. We have great tools in our work that are readily available, and the time spent learning to use them is well worth work saved in the end. This work saved can lead to time being spent on customer relations and that is a true win-win for me, my staff and our organization. Last year, I championed the move to a cloud based shipping and tracking system. Since implementation, our support staff has been able to focus their attention on more important tasks since customers can track details themselves with a few clicks of a mouse."

2nd Answer Example
"In field sales, resourcefulness stems from proper planning and I consider myself a great planner. I keep organized and planned for my workdays and workweeks by using an online calendar and task list. Then, I plan my sales call schedule to reduce drive times and waiting times. This helps me spend more face to face time with my customers supporting my products and closing sales. I also utilize client relationship management software that I purchased on my own with my current employer. This allows me to keep up to dates notes on customer preferences, schedules and sales numbers. This system has allowed me to show clients trends in their business that they didn't even realize were happening."

"I was working with clinics in my territory to promote our medical devices and kept hearing that our competitor was offering a better product that was more tech savvy. I brought this feedback back to our R & D team but also had an idea on how we could differentiate ourselves from our competitor's product. I did a bunch of research on how to engineer something like this, even though that is far out of my scope as a sales person. I was then put on a project team to explore actually developing this upgraded product. Our team was able to research, design and launch a product that my physicians were so excited about. It was the most challenging and rewarding experience!"

Written by Ryan Brunner on March 14th, 2019
2nd Answer Example
"Volunteering my time and effort to a greater cause was something taught to me at a young age by my grandparents. In middle school and high school, I volunteered all the weekends I could at our local animal shelter. Then, through college, I spent a few holidays donating my time serving food at a local food pantry for families that couldn't afford a meal. I think the important lesson that my grandparents taught me was that while I may find myself with family, friends, food and money, there are still those that are missing some or all of those things and the right thing to do is to help others missing those keys to life. If hired for this position, I'd love to take part in giving back to this community and others that I would help serve."

"For example: "We had bi-weekly team meetings and we do a lot of brainstorming during that time. One of my colleagues came across really negative and would shoot down people's ideas really quickly. This really deflated the energy in the team. I asked him to go for a walk with me and I told him how his behavior was being perceived. He was caught off guard by this feedback. However, because we were walking and our bodies were moving, it helped him to calm down and hear me. "I started at my company with a staff who had been there a long time. I'm a big believer in Lean Six Sigma principles and I saw a ton of waste in our process. I took some time to get to know the people and learn the current process fully, but then I suggested new ways to streamline our operations such as consolidation vendor agreements, leveraging some of the global contracts we have and have people 'own' more of their own process instead of handing it off to others. Because I had built relationships with the people in the department first, they were more open to the change. Within the first year, we were able to produce 30% more revenue with no added staff because of the changes I recommended."
Written by Ryan Brunner on March 14th, 2019
2nd Answer Example
"For example: "As a new grad, I was on a lot of project teams. "During my time directly out of college working as a Sale Representative with a large food distributor, we would run short notice pricing on products that were getting close to expiration date in our warehouse. During one of our sales staff meetings, our sales manager was asking our methods for getting these products out to the right customers. With myself and most of my colleagues talking to high volume customers about the date issue and the pricing, I really felt like we were doing the right thing. A couple of my colleagues were laughing and joking about how they simply invoiced and sent to the short dated products to customers without their direct knowledge. Knowing that this could be a potential health hazard, I immediately gave them feedback to start using our method. I reiterated that it was extremely important for the customer to be aware of the product they were receiving so they could make a plan for it with their staff. After the meeting, am manager commended me for speaking up and stated that things like that are much more well received when they come from a coworker rather than a boss."
Written by Ryan Brunner on March 14th, 2019
2nd Answer Example
"At a team meeting a few months ago, a majority of my colleagues were lobbying our director to not look at new product tracking system in our warehouse. In talking to my colleagues, they were mostly fearful about learning and training on a new system and not able to see the benefits of the new system that was being proposed. After I had taken the time to learn the new system in and out through online training modules, I spoke up in the meeting about the benefits the new system would have on our work on a daily basis. I know that in speaking up, many of the colleagues eyes were opened to what was ultimately unavoidable."

Explain your process for putting yourself in someone else's shoes in any situation and let your interviewer know why you believe it is important to do this with anyone that you work with.

1st Answer Example
"Last year, I was asked to be on a project that was focused on reducing our raw materials waste in our manufacturing processes. In representing the warehousing team, I had first hand experience with the amount of waste currently being produced as we handled the disposal of it in my department. Up to joining that project team, I certainly had my own thoughts regarding the amount of costly waste. Now having the chance to meet with representatives from the design and production teams, I took the time to talk to them to get to know their processes so I could get a better understanding of why the waste levels were where they were at that time. Learning their processes included spending time in each area of the production shop floor and talking with those employees as well. This alone gave me a great understanding of why materials could get wasted and also helped me contribute to the project with new ideas."

2nd Answer Example
"As a Product Development Engineer, getting feedback and seeing things from the perspective of consumers is extremely vital to ensuring my work is well received and successful in the marketplace. Last year at an industry conference for the plumbing industry, I was able to spend time with and talk with a few of the largest plumbing contractors in the Midwest to talk about a new line of piping products I was developing. I had me walk them through the frustrations they had with current industrial piping options and what they'd look for in new products. These perspectives helped me bring some great ideas back to our design team and we can hardly keep up with the demand today or the new products we designed."

23. At Zimmer Biomet, our medical device products touch lives throughout the world. We have offices in over 20 countries. Tell me about experience you have working with a global workforce.
How to Answer
In global companies, there are many nuances. The EQ and exposure to working with people in other countries is really important to create community and understanding. Highlight any experiences you've had and highlight your excitement about working in a global environment.

1st Answer Example
"I have learned so much from the global experiences I've had so far. One of the biggest learnings I have had is that words mean different things to different people. It is a good idea not to use expressions or slang terms when working with people in other countries because the translation doesn't come through. I try to speak slowly, clearly, and use simple words to make sure we are understanding one another."

2nd Answer Example
"For example: "I haven't had the opportunity to work in a global organization yet, but this is one of the reasons I'm really excited to work at Zimmer Biomet. I went to a college with many international students and I learned a great deal about cultures and traditions in other countries. I learned a lot about listening to understand versus talking to be heard. Given the chance, I could represent Zimmer Biomet in a very positive light to global colleagues."

"We just implemented all of the Office 365 tools. There are more programs than I can imagine in that suite, so in my free time, I've been looking at as many as I can to see how we could incorporate these tools into our process. I found a scheduling app that I am testing right now to save some of the back and forth with clients as we try to schedule conversations. It has saved me at least 2 hours a week so far, so I'm planning on rolling it out to my team next month."

1st Answer Example
"In the ever changing landscape of manufacturing, training and education has been vital throughout my career to help learn new machinery, new technology and new products. If I had to pick the best experience I've been a part of, it was about five years ago when my employer was implementing a new line of products and this required a new injection molding machine I was to operate. The training started with a brief classroom training on the functionality and usage of the machine, along with all of the safety measures required to operate it. This overview gave a great start to the hands on training that followed with a rep from the manufacturer of the machine. During the hands on portion, I was allowed to see the full process for the new parts we were going to be producing as well as getting experience troubleshooting issues in the gate, sprue and runner."

2nd Answer Example
"Last year, I attended a national NSPE educational event on Climate Action for Engineers. Being in a full day training with people in the field can often be very boring with a traditional classroom and PowerPoint approach. But the leader of this class took a fun and collaborative approach where we participated in a very fun ice breaker game to start the day as well as giving everyone the opportunity to share our own experiences throughout the day. For me, it was very refreshing to learn from other engineers from different industries and apply what they've found effective back to my industry."

27. At Zimmer Biomet, our medical devices can truly change people's lives. Sometimes, though, a patient may have a question or concern about one of our devices. How have you handled a difficult customer interaction in a previous position?
How to Answer
The interviewer wants to know you can handle the stress of a difficult customer interaction. The customer could be a physician group who use the medical device or an actual patient who has a question or concern about your product. Show the interviewer that you can stay cool under pressure and resolve the concern.
Written by Ryan Brunner on March 14th, 2019
1st Answer Example
"I am a lead in our department, so I take the calls that are escalated or too difficult for one of the other reps to handle. I had a customer who was yelling about how much money he spent on the device and it wasn't working. He was beyond the return date, so we couldn't give him a refund. I let him get all of his anger out and finish talking. I then asked him questions and always addressed him by first name to try and build some rapport. I learned that he hadn't been to see his physician to follow up. We have relationships with the care-givers at one of the local facilities, so I was able to put him on hold, and see when they had an appointment available. When I transferred him over to the scheduler, he had calmed down a bit. It wasn't a perfect scenario, but I tried to treat him with dignity and respect and not take it personal."

2nd Answer Example
"For example: "I used to be a waitress in college and dealing with difficult customers was my specialty. My co-workers would always give me the regulars who were cranky because I had a way of working with them that made it look easy. One evening, I had a customer who was very upset with his food order. I listened to his concern and asked him if he would like me to bring him something else, but he kept going on and on and was getting quite loud at this point. I apologized again and asked told him I could give him a discount on his order or bring him another choice. He ended up taking the discount and leaving, but at least his volume went down and he left. Difficult customer interactions don't always end perfectly, but I feel I handled the situation appropriately."
