Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
Answer Example
"There are a couple of work-related accomplishments that come to mind. During my recent annual performance review, my Director commended me for being flexible and adaptable over the last year and a half during a pandemic. Our team was under immense pressure with both a busy work life and a hectic home life. While I'm not a person that needs a pat on the back, it was very humbling to be recognized personally by them. I've also collected a number of comments that I've received from the customers that I work with daily. From my first day on the job, they've always appreciated my honesty, knowledge, and friendly personality."

Adaptability
2. If hired at YouTube, how would you adapt when asked to make minute changes to your work?
How to Answer
YouTube is a cutting-edge company that is continuously looking for the next breakthrough in streaming technology. In this role with YouTube, there will be times when you will need to make quick changes and adaptations in your work. Your interviewer will be expecting you to be able to handle these changes with professionalism. Show your interviewer that you can embrace change in the workplace. If possible, provide an example of when you had to make last-minute changes to your work in the past and demonstrate how you did so with ease.
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
Answer Example
"I can take the pressure of last-minute changes, and I've proven this throughout my career. Last year, I was working on a large project with many stakeholders involved in the work. After we had kicked off our project, set our goals and milestones, and began working, we were asked to make some last-minute changes to the project's goals. It was early August, less than a month until we were to have the final product ready to go. First, I asked leadership if there was any leeway to extend the deadline for the project given the last-minute changes, and they said no. I knew that I had to lead the project team admirably and go back to square one with new planning. I quickly scheduled a meeting, and we took off from there. At no point during this process did I become flustered or angered because these things happen. My project team saw my positive attitude and followed along without hesitation."

3. How would you sell YouTube TV services to someone who thinks they have what they need with Netflix and Apple TV?
How to Answer
Millions of people are cutting their cable and satellite services, while millions of others remain loyal, keeping their services intact. Then, there is another group riding the middle, called 'cord-shavers.' These customers are ones who cut back on their packages but keep what they consider to be most important to them. Even though the role you are interviewing for with YouTube may not be directly selling packages to consumers, your interviewer wants to hear that you have intimate knowledge of the services that YouTube TV provides and how their product is set apart from their competitors. Discuss how you would approach selling satellite television services to people considered 'cord-cutters.'
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"If I were to sell the services of YouTube TV against that of Netflix or Apple TV, I would begin with discussing the fact that YouTube TV offers the best in live TV, including the most exciting sports coverage. You can't get this kind of product from a streaming service like Netflix. So, unless someone wants to miss out on some great live television, they should consider subscribing to YouTube TV."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"From what I've researched on YouTube TV, the one simple plan with one flat fee would surely be a draw to any potential customer. The ability to have the services delivered to any device makes it great for anyone, whether from home or on the go. Last, the free and unlimited DVR is a feature that most other cabled and streaming services don't provide."

4. How would you manage the daily stresses that come with this role at YouTube?
How to Answer
Before even applying for a new position with YouTube, it is important to understand that the work there is in a very fast-paced environment. This fast pace can come with a great deal of stress, and your interviewer is asking this question to ensure that you can handle the on-the-job stress that comes with this role with ease. Prior to your interview, be sure to carefully read through the job description, so you are aware of the potential stressors in this job. Then as you answer, talk about the tools and resources that you would lean on to help navigate the stresses in this work environment.
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
Answer Example
"I have developed a few modules around stress management myself, the principles of which are ones that are deeply rooted in my personal and professional experience. The first principle for me is the eight-hour workday. As much as possible, I delay any tasks or activities that pop up outside of normal work hours until I start the workday. I think it's important to draw this line for others to respect my time. I also dedicate no more than two hours at a time to deep project work. Deep work is any activity that needs to be performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that pushes your cognitive capabilities to their limits. The other key to maintaining a stress-free work environment is being on task and organized. I utilize many tools to help keep me on track and organized, and these tools include a detailed work calendar and project list with deadlines and milestones clearly outlined."

While this is undoubtedly an ethical question, your interviewer will be looking to hear that you understand why curbing these types of behaviors on their platform is important. Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"I know that YouTube strives every day to give the world a voice and give people their chance to tell a story through your amazing platform. Abusive content and comments on the site will ultimately drive users away, and in turn, will drive away ad revenue. While there are some bad apples out there, most of the general public are good people and want to come to a place online where content is safe, secure, and free from bullying. I was glad to recently read about YouTube's efforts to track harmful comments on the site and the warnings that users receive when a post may be offensive to others."

2nd Answer Example
"YouTube's focus on diversity and inclusion is a major draw to me as I embark on a job search. Your reputation as a platform for connecting the world is spoken for by one billion views each day. 12. How do you think video-on-demand services are affecting the media advertising industry?
How to Answer
In asking this question, your interviewer would like to see that you have at least some insight regarding the video streaming industry and how it's changing how companies advertise. Raymond James, a financial services firm, conducted an extensive survey in 2017 showing that 40% of people asked said they choose video streaming over traditional television to avoid commercials. This statistic indicates that video streaming has a massive impact on the advertising industry. Give a thoughtful response, showing to the interviewer that you have a keen interest in what's happening in the world of media today.
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"I believe that video-on-demand services are hugely affecting the media advertising industry. People have changed how they consume media, and advertisers have had to adapt. I look at YouTube, and your 15-second ads played before loading a video. Consumers now watch commercials on mobile and social networking sites versus on television between episodes of their favorite sitcom. Advertisers have had to make a significant pivot over the last few years, leaving those unwilling to adapt in the dust."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"I believe that the convenience of video-on-demand has made people impatient when it comes to how they digest advertising. The quick 3 second blurbs we see now on social networking sites mean that advertisers have to be incredibly sharp in their messaging. I think this is a great change, ensuring that advertisers spend their dollars wisely, getting the best message out to consumers in as short of time as possible. As well, with the increasing popularity of DVR through traditional cable, consumers pass over the traditional 30 - 60 second advertisements that companies had used for years."

At some point during your time with them, your interviewer may be curious to find out how often you stream content versus using more traditional broadcasting methods to consume your content. Share how the introduction of on-demand video streaming has changed the way you watch your favorite shows, look for videos, and even how you pay attention to media advertising. No matter how you answer this question, your interviewer will be looking to hear that you understand how the increase in streaming video services like YouTube provides has had a profound impact on how consumers stay entertained.
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"I watch a lot of on-demand video streaming through sources such as YouTube, Netflix, and IGTV. I believe that on-demand video streaming saves me a lot of time as it's now effortless to search for, and find, the videos that I want to watch. I also find that I pay more attention to ads since they are more interesting and relevant than many of the ads I have been exposed to on television throughout my entire life."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"On-demand video streaming certainly simplifies life; however, it puts me on my device more than ever. I like to consume content in smaller bits now, but that also means picking up my phone or tablet more often during the day. I think that streaming reduces the time I spend watching commercials, but the ads I see are much more targeted and relevant to me. We also recently purchased a smart TV. My family loves having the Disney + and PBS Kids apps at hand and available at all times."

Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"This year has seen many great advancements in streaming technology. Recently, I was reading an article on what to watch for streaming this year. Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"Like in a lot of other industries and tech areas, artificial intelligence is helping to create a bright new future, and I understand that this is also true in streaming technology. I was reading about how AI can generate a high-resolution image or video from an old low-resolution image or video. I see this being extremely useful at YouTube when a user may upload grainy, old footage that is super helpful to other users on the site. With the AI super-resolution, the video could become much more clear and useful."

16. What are the most significant differences between YouTube TV and streaming services such as Netflix?
How to Answer
There are so many ways that consumers can view their favorite television programming in this day and age. To hopefully gain some insight into your knowledge of YouTube as a whole, your interviewer is looking for your level of knowledge regarding YouTube TV versus other popular streaming services. Before your interview, try to do some research online to see if you can learn about the ways these sources of TV broadcasting are competing so you can talk knowledgeably about how YouTube TV is dominating the competition.
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"I have been learning a lot about YouTube TV and how it competes with streaming services such as Netflix. Interestingly, I found that mainstream television network offerings remain much more profitable than I initially thought. There are many loyalists to network television, so the fact that YouTube TV offers an affordable solution for subscribers to gain access to 70+ mainstream channels such as ABC, Fox, NBC, and AMC is an incredible competitive advantage over services such as Netflix."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"Netflix is great for people who want to watch the tried and true television shows and movies, as well as some very well done original content. However, nothing beats the affordable offering from YouTube TV when it comes to sports broadcasting and live television shows, soap operas, and even game shows. As I embarked on a search for a new position, YouTube was the highest on my list because I believe so much in the services that you provide."

I would look forward to bringing this same innovative way of thinking every day at YouTube."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"In its simplest form, I believe that innovation is taking a new idea and turning it into a solution that creates new value for customers. In the work that I would be doing with YouTube, I never settle for the status quo and always keep the end-user in mind in all that I do. Sometimes it can be easy to lose focus on the end goal of your work, but I strive to keep end-users in mind at all times when creating new solutions for them."

In proposing this question to your, your interviewer at YouTube would like to know your thoughts on the rating system and how effective they are. Prior to your interview, put some thought into this topic and be sure to keep your answer productive and thoughtful.
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"Media ratings have most definitely loosened over the years. I feel like what used to be rated PG-13 is now often classified as PG. I feel this is because our kids and youth are exposed to so much more now than we ever were as kids and we are becoming desensitized as a society. I do wish that some guidelines would remain tighter, especially surrounding violent content. I'm glad that a company like YouTube gives parents the ability o set up parental controls for their kids as they use the site."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"Because I am newer to this industry, I would need to conduct more analysis on media ratings before I could give you a fully researched answer. With that said, I feel that most media I am exposed to seem to be rated adequately and clearly. I think it's important for viewers and consumers to easily see ratings before making their decision on whether or not it's appropriate for them and those watching with them."

How to Answer

"I feel that the most influential form of media today is social media and online content; primarily video to be exact. As a whole, the human race wants fast, easy to consume entertainment news. Our consumption rate is unprecedented, and the fastest way to access it is through online content sharing. Social media has boomed in the last ten years and has helped create the 'need news now' mania we have in society. It's hard to believe that my parents had to wait until the evening news or next day's newspaper to learn important news."
Written by Ryan Brunner on October 25th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"There are many important forms of media today - so many that people seem to be getting overwhelmed. I would still say that traditional media, in the form of television and the daily news, is at the top regarding the total number of people influenced and the quality of the content distributed. Of course, I am not naive to the fact that this could change in the near future with the continued influence of the internet and social media."

I was also raised to show respect for all people I work closely with and expect the same to be shown to me. I've worked with a couple of colleagues during my career that didn't give their full effort, and I was never hesitant to talk with them when I felt they could give more effort. As well, I've been in a few situations where colleagues weren't respectful. Last week, I had a colleague show complete disrespect towards another coworker by brushing off their opinions on a project we were working on. To draw the line, I called out the disrespect among our group of five and asked the person to start being respectful when working on our project team."
