I was a department manager for several years, I have always tried to treat each person with respect. Once you have a chance to work with each person and find out what their strengths and weaknesses are you can build from that and place people where they can help the most. I always look for the best in each employee. I have several employees that I continue to be friends outside of the work environment. One thing I like to do it be out on the line with them not just dictate tasks. I want to show them that I do not expect them to do anything that I would not do myself. Each person has something to offer the team and you need to work with each person to find it. The outcome has been good in most circumstances as no one is treated like an outsider.
