1.

How can we motivate you on the job?

Every employer should know how each staff member is best motivated. Talk to the interviewer about the variety of ways in which you are best motivated on the job.

Rachelle's Answer #1

"I am best motivated through words of praise and recognition for a job well done. I do like to know that my efforts are being noticed. In my current position we have a leader board and I do like that concept because it creates a healthy bit of personal competition in me as well."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"I am motivated by knowing something about the end consumer and being able to relate to them as a person. I like to know that my work is makin"

2.

At The Hertz Corporation we have many local and online competitors. In your opinion, what make us stand out from the crowd?

It is important that you research The Hertz Corporation before your interview and be sure to learn about their business landscape. Who are their competitors? What are customers saying online? Check out some popular review sites to get an idea of what the public is saying about The Hertz Corporation vs their local and online competitors. Keep your answer positive and complimentary.

Rachelle's Answer #1

"After researching The Hertz Corporation online, I found that you really stand out through the many ways that you give back to your community. On the The Hertz Corporation website, as well as third party review sites, people are talking about the charitable contributions and generosity coming from The Hertz Corporation. This makes your company a big stand-out to me because I am serious about working for an organization that is aware of their social impact."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"Your branding, and standing in your industry, are what makes you stand out from the crowd, in my opinion. Your message is very clear, clean, and your social media accounts are really active which is great to see. I think these things give The Hertz Corporation a major leg up on the competition."

3.

What do you think might be the greatest challenges faced in this job with The Hertz Corporation? How will you overcome these challenges?

Even though it may seem like a dream job, the interviewer wants to know that you have realistic expectations of the role and that you will not be blindsided if problems or challenges present themselves. Keep you answer simple. It is absolutely okay to ask for clarification on the role if you do not fully understand what challenges are in store for you.

Rachelle's Answer #1

"I think the greatest challenges in this role will be to learn the proper operation of the software systems. Another challenge will be the physical aspect of the position as I will be required to stand and walk around most of the day. I will be sure to pay keen attention during training and ask questions along the way. In regards to the physical component - I will get used to the additional activity after just a couple of days, I'm sure."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"I would say the greatest challenges I'll face in this role is learning the industry ins and outs in order to be perceived as an expert when making the pitch to new clients. I'm not worried in the least of learning the material or the pitch, but there's more to being credible and approachable about a topic than the company's pitch, so I want to be sure to really immerse myself in the industry lingo, attend as many seminars and conventions as possible, and I've already begun subscribing and reading the leading industry publications so that I can really get into the nitty gritty of how it all works. Of course, I will also seek out mentorship opportunities where I can learn from folks who have been in the industry for years. I find they love to share their knowledge and it really gives me a leg up."

4.

When have you shown a willingness to learn a new method or new approach to solving a problem?

It is a great skill to have when you are able to approach a problem in a new way. Discuss with the interviewer your ability to approach a problem using new methods.

Rachelle's Answer #1

"When our company came under new management last year there were many new methods and policies that came into place. I was able to learn many new approaches to our challenges in sales, and customer management. I quite enjoyed the process."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"I am always willing to learn new techniques and problem solving methods! In my most recent position I requested to attend a workshop at our local college that included dispute resolution and other customer service techniques. I learned a lot there and was able to implement my new approach almost immediately."

5.

The Hertz Corporation values philanthropy and community giving. How do you choose to give back to others?

The interviewer would like to know that you are socially responsible and a team player - even outside of the workplace. Your answer can be as simple as babysitting your grand-kids every Sunday, to a standing-volunteer gig, to charitable contributions.

Rachelle's Answer #1

"I work a lot but, when I do have free time, I spend that with my grand-kids. It helps to give my son a bit of a break as he is a full time single dad. In addition to this, I volunteer at the local drop-in center every Christmas to help feed the homeless. Giving back is very important to me."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"I agree that community giving is important. I have a regular commitment with our local animal shelter and I also act as a foster home for displaced animals, when the shelter is experiencing overflow. It's easy for me because I am an animal lover but it's also really rewarding to do something kind. Can you tell me more about the philanthropic efforts of The Hertz Corporation?"

6.

Rate your communication skills from 1-10 with proper examples backing your given rating.

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in communication? Why did you choose that particular rating for yourself?

Rachelle's Answer #1

"I rate my communication skills as a 9/10 as I will, on occasion, have times when I am not as clear as I would like to be. My supervisor and co-workers will attest to my clear and concise communication skills. Because I am an open leader, my team will let me know if I need to clarify anything."

Rachelle's Answer #1

"I understand that The Hertz Corporation has put a lot of work into building these long term client relationships. If one of your clients complained about my communication with them, I would take full responsibility for my actions and issue an apology. I would also be open to feedback to avoid future incidences. Rest assured, in my 15 years of employment, I have not had any clients complain to my employer about my work ethic or delivery of service."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"Some customers cannot be pleased but I do try my best to make every interaction a positive one. If a customer was unhappy with an interaction with me I would take full accountability and ask them, or my manager, how I could improve. Implementing that change would be the next step."

- Ability to delegate

I am confident in my ability to successfully and professionally handle the range of customers that shop at The Hertz Corporation."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"In my current position I work with a large variety of personalities in the form of clients and co-workers. I believe that this diversity is what makes life interesting! Despite our personality differences, we all want the same things. These include being respected and feeling heard. I look forward to meeting your range of customers, and your team at The Hertz Corporation."

13.

At The Hertz Corporation we seek to hire those who think outside the box. When was the last time you made a suggestion for workplace improvement? What was the outcome?

The interviewer would like to know if you are an engaged employee; offering suggestions and providing deeper thought when it comes to process improvement in the workplace. Give an example of a time when you made a suggestion for improvement in the workplace. It can be big or small! Did anything great come out of your suggestion?

Rachelle's Answer #1

"Last year I made a recommendation for our office to incorporate a recycling program. We were going through a lot of single-use coffee pods. It bothered me how wasteful it all seemed. I presented a spreadsheet to my supervisor comparing the single-use pods vs. investing in a built-in coffee machine. The savings over 2 years were significant and my boss has now presented my idea to our head office. It feels nice to be heard in the workplace so I continue to keep my eyes out for opportunities for process improvements."

Rachelle's Answer #2

"The last time I made a suggestion for workplace improvement would have been during our last staff meeting. Rachelle's Answer #2

"I am well motivated by opportunities for promotion and new responsibilities. If you see me excelling in a particular area, it is likely because I have a very strong interest in it. So, providing me with more responsibilities, related to that particular area, is great for me."

15.

Would you be willing to work over 40 hours a week?

Before answering scheduling questions, it's important to be clear on expectations. If you haven't had a chance to clarify their scheduling needs, now would be the perfect time to ask!

Consider asking, "What are the scheduling expectations for this position?" If they expect you to work 12 hour days, it would be important for you to know that before you respond with, "Absolutely! No problem!" You want to be sure that you can meet their expectations.

If it turns out their schedule expectations won't work for you, think about what you can offer and see if you can meet in the middle. It's much better to discuss these things in an interview than for you to commit to a schedule that won't work for you.

Rachelle's Answer #1

"What are the scheduling expectations for this position?"

Rachelle's Answer #2

"I am willing to work overtime, but how much and how often are the first questions that come to mind. I firmly believe that downtime, or personal time, are essential to recharging your batteries and staying focused."
