"I took an extremely complicated and unsupportable backup process and simplified it. The existing code to set up and run backups was a group of KSH scripts that were about 30,000 lines long. My language of choice at the time was Perl and I gave each backup type its own script in less than 100 lines apiece. I also wrote a tool to orchestrate the installation of the TSM client and set up the backup for every DB and OS type we had in the environment. The backup success rate went from 92% to 99% in 3 months. It solved the biggest problem the company had at the time."
