2. What do you feel is the most important characteristic in order to be successful with Sodexo?
How to Answer
The key to answering this question involves two key steps. First, name a characteristic that is central to success for the role you're interviewing for and explain why it is important by providing a clear and specific example. Second, describe how the attribute you selected aligns with Sodexo's mission to "create a better everyday for everyone to build a better life for all."
Written by Karrie Day on December 19th, 2023
Answer Example
"One of the major reasons I applied for this position is that I feel so aligned with Sodexo's commitment to quality of life -- their mission to foster and develop the quality of life in all areas of the world is something I'm also passionate about. Specifically for the role of Food Lead Worker, I feel the ability to lead by example is critical. When working in a lead role I am always prepared to do any task that I ask of anyone on my team and I do it at the same level of quality I expect from my team. My teammates appreciate my humble spirit, ability to set the bar high, and willingness to jump in to help at any time with any task.
The ability to lead by example helps to serve the mission of Sodexo in two main ways. First, the individuals I work with feel supported and have a solid example to work from. Secondly, this type of leadership leads to excellent customer service and improves the quality of life for those we serve."

How to Answer
Whether you plan to manage customer payments, deliver patient meals, or develop HR technology, a successful answer to this question will clearly demonstrate your integrity. In addition to answering with an affirmative "yes", walk your interviewer through a short story that highlights a time in which you showed discretion or trustworthiness. Consider organizing the details of your response using the STAR Method (situation, task, action, result) for maximum effectiveness!
Written by Karrie Day on December 19th, 2023
Answer Example
"One of my greatest strengths as an employee is my level of honesty and trustworthiness. I have multiple references who will attest to the fact that I am competent and honest. For example, one of my first jobs was as a secretary in a law office. I was regularly exposed to highly sensitive client information. Additionally, I handled payments, made bank deposits, and updated accounting information accordingly. I was always careful to show discretion, respect for client privacy, and accountability for all of the money I handled. As a result, the attorney I worked for allowed me to work with him on some of his most sensitive cases. I am confident that I will be able to properly follow all of Sodexo's guidelines in this area and handle any sensitive information or monetary transactions with the highest degree of trustworthiness."

6. At Sodexo, we take great care to reduce waste in all forms. In what ways do you think you will be able to help us achieve this goal?
How to Answer
Whether you're interviewing for a university food services role or a healthcare technology position, the concept of waste reduction is of the utmost importance at Sodexo. Think about how waste applies directly to your target role and offer at least three examples of specific actions you can take to reduce waste. Keep in mind that that waste comes in many forms (waiting time, overproduction, inventory, travel/motion, defects, improper processing of orders, spoilage, etc.), and convince your Sodexo interviewer you are prepared to do your job as efficiently as possible.
Written by Karrie Day on November 29th, 2023
Answer Example
"As a utility worker, I can help to reduce waste by transferring supplies in an efficient manner, by identifying inventory that may cause foodborne illness and reporting it promptly, and by cleaning used areas and dishes as quickly as possible so that they can be used again without unnecessary wait times."

How to Answer

Written by Karrie Day on December 11th, 2023
Answer Example
"Last year my team lead noticed I was not following her preferred method for preparing certain dishes. I trained under her when I arrived at the company, but my experience extends beyond what she taught me. As a result, I developed my own method to help me prepare the dishes faster.
She was upset that I went rogue and asked me to return to doing things her way. I respected her as the team lead and I immediately honored her request until the end of my shift and then asked if she was free to talk. I explained I had not changed things out of disrespect and that I was taking the opportunity to use skills I had gained under previous employment. I apologized for not coming to her to discuss it first and asked if she would be open to my sharing the details of the efficiencies I was able to make.
My team lead listened and was open to my ideas. We set up a time to talk again and ultimately developed a new method that included several of my ideas while maintaining the integrity of pieces of the process she felt very strongly about. In hindsight, I learned that it would have been better to discuss my ideas first before deciding on my own to implement them, but I am grateful that a calm, respectful, and positive approach worked out to serve the team in the end."

29. We believe strongly in our ethical principles at Sodexo. Do you know what they are?
How to Answer
Recite the four main ethical principles Sodexo asks all of its employees to share. If time permits, offer an example of how you share Sodexo's commitment to their principles. If you cannot remember them, or forget one, ask your interviewer for assistance and then convince them you're ready to embody their commitment to the four principles if hired.

Answer Example
"I know that Sodexo emphasizes their employees showing excellence in their everyday actions because they help improve the quality of life for others over time. I would be sure to show great attention to detail in my role as an environmental services attendant. Maintaining a clean and healthy environment helps contribute to the health of the patients Sodexo serves. Likewise, keeping the plants I would be responsible for in good condition can help to add beauty and a calming element to the patient experience."
