"I believe that the key to success in any endeavor is good communication and direction. If an employee does not know what to do or how to do something, the task will more than likely fail. I prefer to have clear directions about the expectations of the task. I would say it is concise, clean, and friendly. From the communication exchanges I have had with Safelite AutoGlass so far, I believe our communication styles are a great fit."

As in any service industry, communication between the company, client, and employee is crucial to success. "I believe that great people make a difference in the lives of others for the better. I want to bring happiness into the life of someone by helping them fix a problem. Nobody likes driving a car with a busted windshield, and frankly, it can be unsafe to do so. If I can fix that problem in a quick, efficient, and friendly manner, I want to do that. In that way, I a fulfilling the company's motto and making the world a better place."

Every company needs a motto or mission statement to give employees a sense of purpose and direction. The interviewer wants to get your take on the motto and how you might contribute as a team member in fulfilling it. Think about the motto and what it means. This position will require you to be able to lift windshields, and carefully place them onto customer's vehicles. Are there any physical limitations that might prevent you from doing so?

"I have no limitations physically in performing the work. I exercise regularly and believe that I can lift adequate amounts of inventory to get the job done correctly."

"I have been using the Affinity CRM for years and am very familiar with how most systems operate. "I have used a couple of different CRM systems, but I know that I will need to learn yours. My strongest skill in this area is how I interact with the guest over the phone. I begin with a smile because I want customers to instantly feel the rapport they have with me. I try to be as helpful as I can and ensure that I am listening to their concern. Then I try to work as quickly as I can to meet their need, updating them on my progress as I go along."

Because Safelite AutoGlass provides a service, customer relations is extremely important to us. Share with me a time when you provided great customer service.

"I believe in providing great customer service to every client I come in contact with. I think that it starts with having a great attitude. If I approach the customer with a smile on my face and a pep in my step, that can go a long way to making the customer a raving fan. I also want to work fast but take the time to do the job correctly. In my previous position, I received awards for my customer service skills, and I can hardly wait to apply those qualities to my role at Safelite."

I think that customers love seeing the energy and a bit of pep in the step. I knew the store very well and usually was able to direct the customers right to what they needed. I have strong customer relation skills that I am looking forward to using at Safelite."

"I love having customers in our store. I get excited to help each one because almost every need is different. I think that having a great attitude is the best way to start building rapport. I also think that welcoming them and offering to assist them so that they feel that they have your undivided attention can go a long way."

This job requires that you have adequate transportation to and from the job site. Are there any issues that we should know about.

"I have adequate transportation with my own vehicle and should not have any trouble getting to work on time. I look forward to starting!"

"Currently, I am available on Monday through Friday, early afternoon, if possible."

"I have no issues or limitations on my license and would continue my safe driving record when working for the company."

The position of a technician will likely involve you delivering and installing a windshield to a customer's home so that you can perform the repair or replacement. To accomplish this task, you will need to have a valid driver's license. "I do have a violation on my record, but it happened almost 3 years ago. It did not impact my driver's license, and I have paid the fine and resumed driving. I believe that Safelite will find me a more than capable driver."

"In my previous position, I was required to wear a polo and slacks and steel-toed shoes. I love the fact that a uniform keeps me from having to stress about what to wear. I would be very interested in knowing more specifics about your personal appearance policy."

In a service industry like Safelite, a professional appearance can go a long way toward making a good impression on customers. The interviewer needs to know if there are any issues that are not visible that might prohibit you from wearing a uniform. Often companies have personal appearance standards for tattoos, piercings, and the like. Be forthcoming and open about anything you might perceive as an issue. "In my previous position, we were required to wear a shirt and tie every day. I do have some tattoos on my forearm from when I was in the military. "I have always spent time volunteering with local organizations. This includes the animal shelter, the children's hospital, and our local food bank. I believe that no matter how busy we are, we always have time to give back. I have researched the efforts that Safelite AutoGlass puts in when it comes to charity. Your values and interest in your global impact are impressive. It's one of the reasons I am so attracted to your organization."

"I typically spend time with my children who love to visit museums and go to parks and things like that. My oldest is very nerdy and is studying to be an engineering student. I like helping her build robots and figure things out. My youngest is a painter; she likes to use acrylics and has won several art fairs. I cannot tell you how many of her masterpieces we have hanging from the walls of my home."

Please describe yourself in three words and explain why you chose them.

"I would use three words to describe myself as faithful, determined, and teachable. I chose faithful because I am a loyal employee, and faith is an important part of my life. I am determined because once I start a project, I have to finish it, or I don't feel good about myself. Teachable is just that. I love learning new things, and it gets my blood pumping when I am exposed to new information I know will make me a better person and a more valuable employee."

The interviewer is trying to get to know you further. Your ability to answer this question without hesitation shows confidence and may open up an avenue for further discussion. Finally, I am a structured individual who likes to plan the work and work the plan. I do not like projects that get out of control because, more than likely, chaos ensues."

Tell me about a time when you took the initiative to improve work related procedures.

"I was able to present and implement one specific change in the office this past year. It was a recycling program that I felt was very important, even for our smaller office. We had significantly less waste after my initiative was implemented, and I enjoyed seeing others take pride in helping our environment."

The interviewer is asking this question to judge how engaged of an employee you will be. Companies know that the more engaged a person is, the more productive they will be. Think about a time when you presented your employer with an idea to improve a work environment or a company policy or procedure. "In my previous position, I was responsible for ensuring all invoices and purchase orders were recorded and processed correctly. This meant keeping thousands of different documents straight every day. I loved the work because I am very structured and OCD about keeping the right paperwork in the right folders. How do you prioritize multiple projects when they all seem equally important?

"I would begin by making a list of all the projects I have to accomplish. Then, I would mark what is urgent or important, trying to consider deadlines and meetings. Finally, I would order each task based on how urgent and important they are. Finish these tasks first. Considering due dates and how long it will take to do each item (also considering how much time you have). I have used this system on more than one occasion, and it seems to be the best way I know of prioritizing the work, so it doesn't overwhelm our staff or myself."

There are times at Safelite when multi-tasking becomes necessary, and you will be forced to prioritize your responsibilities. The hiring manager is looking for familiarity with an organization system, so you don't feel overwhelmed. In answering this question, show that you have a system in place to help you manage projects and time. Consider making a list or designating tasks to other capable departments. Be confident in your capability to get the work done in an effective and timely manner.

"I prioritize based on urgency and time required on the project. I have a list of what needs to be done, by when, and how long I project it will take to accomplish. I am great under pressure, but I try to ensure that I don't get myself or my team into a sticky situation by not allotting enough time for any particular project. That said, I also try to be as effective and efficient as possible and make sure I can use all minutes of a day for a project, so I generally have a few things going at once: I am the lead on some, the delegator on others, and the reviewer on another, for instance. This way, by splitting up the work to the appropriate parties, both I and my team and be the most effective and impactful as possible."

What would you do if a client asked you about a product or service and you were unsure of the answer?

"If I had a client ask me about something that I didn't know enough about, I would absolutely try to find the answer for them instead of spouting off an answer I wasn't totally confident was right. I am okay with admitting when I don't know something, and I love to learn new things. Of course, I would find the answer quickly by asking the appropriate person or finding it within the company's internal resources."

As in any retail or service industry, there is a lot to learn. The interviewer wants to know if you are an independent thinker. Explain that you would take the time to try and figure out the answer, but you are not afraid to ask questions if you need to.

"I am a great researcher and do not mind asking for help. If I did not know the answer, I would readily admit it but commit myself to finding the answer. I believe that customers will be patient with you if you are honest and helpful about finding the information you need."

What are your salary expectations?

"Currently, I earn a base of 18 dollars per hour, and I average about 50 hours a week. I also earn a potential 20% annual bonus. Last year my earnings were $52,000, and I would like to stay in the same range or slightly higher."
