What You Need to Know
When hired, you've successfully pitched yourself to your interviewer as the best candidate for the job, but you'll need to convince everyone else on your new team of the same thing. To establish the trust of a new team, you'll need to learn how and why they do things the way they do, especially before suggesting any improvements. This is accomplished by working side by side with those who helped build the working environment. Tap into them as a resource by asking questions. Familiarize yourself with the 30/60/90 rule: Month one should focus on familiarizing yourself with your teams, company, products/services, clients, etc. Month two should be spent studying current processes and procedures, and identifying strengths and weaknesses. I'd establish respectful boundaries while building relationships without sacrificing performance. I'd set those expectations with my coworkers, and deliver on them. I'd give my coworkers the information they need to know how to communicate with me and how to work with me. By introducing these aspects to my makeup, I'd eliminate any grey areas and establish clear guidelines for how to work with me. I'd ask tons of questions, especially about all the behind-the-scenes stuff that I can; why they do things the way they do, and all the big picture stuff, including asking how I can make an impact in my new role, by finding out who the most successful individuals are, and what defines their success. I'd define what success looks like.
So, I'd work on learning the ropes, gaining as much of a big-picture-scope as I can, while building relationships. I'd get to know everyone there. I'd work hard side by side with them, and keep my head down. I'd exhibit my positivity, ask for their insights and their tips and tricks to getting the work done as efficiently as I could. I'd actively listen and participate, and keep asking questions to absorb as much as I can. I'd put my all to earn my keep and build the trust of my coworkers to ensure I complimented my new team. Once I feel I've built some strong working relationships, I'd keep trying to identify kaizen opportunities and would innovate from there. I'm there to contribute and make the team stronger as a whole. That's my goal."

"Well, I'd first try to better understand what triggered the source of the conflict. I am averse to conflict, and frequently confused by it when it occurs. I normally find that the conflict itself typically has nothing to do with the context it's presented with. Especially when the reaction is disproportionate to the action that elicited it. So, I start by actively listening to what the other person has to say. I never draw conclusions and just continue asking questions. Stuff like, 'So what you're saying is that you are upset because of XYZ? And what about that upset you? So you're saying you interpreted that statement as?' and I'd just keep getting to the bottom of it. Normally, some other underlying frustration was fueling that reaction. I want everyone to enjoy coming into work, and to feel invigoration by our interactions and collaboration. So any time I feel that is off balance, I do everything I can to restore that balance. Being a team player is critical at Nike, and the interviewer wants to hear that you are ready to take on professional challenges with ease, ensuring that the team stays unified. The key to answering this question is to talk about each person only in favorable terms; be careful not to make fun of any person or play down the frustration they may have felt during the dispute. To do this, mention that both people had good intentions, and they were just not meeting each other's expectations or seeing eye-to-eye.
Next, share how you helped resolve the dispute. Maybe you talked with each person one-on-one to get both sides of the story first. Perhaps you mediated a conversation between the two of them. "I worked with a supervisor who was known to make preliminary assumptions and run with them, even though their information gathering was incomplete. Frequently, they would realize their mistakes later on, but would never apologize. We all theorized they were embarrassed and instead tried to hold on to their position of authority by being 'tough'. But it was a growth opportunity that everyone was aware of, and that their approach wasn't helping their situation. So, when I was proofing someone else's work where they cross-referenced this supervisor's findings, I spotted a discrepancy from the original source material. So I walked up to this supervisor and told them as I was going about Chris' work, I discovered this discrepancy. They immediately stood up and started marching over to Chris' desk before I could get another word in. Half way through giving them somewhat public feedback in front of the team, I was able to interrupt and get them to listen, and explained the mistake was their own. They did a double take and turned beet red. Everyone was watching. In this instance, they publically apologized to Chris, who shrugged and said they were used to it. Then everyone chimed in, saying that everyone had acclimated to this ineffective approach, and no longer took it seriously. Another supervisor then pulled them aside, and we didn't run into this problem ever again. It's unfortunate that they embarrassed themself in this way. My goal was to discreetly bring this discrepancy to their attention, and to explain that I wanted to avoid this very situation from happening again. But they undermined my effort. In fact, this probably had more of an impact."
