"Last year, our manager went away on vacation for three weeks. Some of my coworkers wanted to falsify our time sheets to reflect overtime hours we did not work. I disagreed and convinced them it was a bad idea and not worth being fired over. I also reported this to my stand-in manager immediately."

"I am sure you have an internal policy for employee theft, and I assure you that I would follow the required steps to report the theft. I am trustworthy and have a strong track record of honesty with my previous employers. I would never tolerate theft of any kind."

"I would love to see your code of ethics and workplace wardrobe documents before fully agreeing; however, I understand the importance of appropriate dress and presenting a united front in the workplace."

"I learned long ago that you are not only selling your products, but you are selling yourself, your competence, and creating confidence in a client or potential client. Wearing a uniform makes my mornings easy. I love fashion and styling so much that I have a special ability to create many options for a look, and you can rest assured that my coworkers and I will set a cohesive style."

When have you had to adapt to change?

"In my current role, there is a lot of turnover regarding our management team. I have had to adapt to three new managers in the past four years. It is not the ideal situation, but I maintain a positive attitude anytime we have someone new join, and I always volunteer to spend time with them to share more about our team and help them onboard in any way I can. I try to keep an open mind, as with every new leader, often also comes new vision and direction that I must be able to adapt to for the betterment and success of our team."

"I am extremely artistic and love to use my skills in everyday tasks. For example, in my previous role, my manager often created handouts and PowerPoint presentations with plain white backgrounds and no images. She allowed me to use my graphic design gifts to reformat and make her handouts visually appealing and engaging for the audience. Our team complimented many of my projects, and I could tell the engagement levels were higher in our team training calls."

I would consider creating more content geared to how LV orients their new employees and possibly making job opportunities more visible."

In your opinion, what is the biggest difference between selling low-end and high-end products?

"In my opinion, the most significant difference in selling high-end products is that you must have incredible product knowledge. You need to show value and display why your product is superior and why the luxury is worth the price tag. With Louis Vuitton, the brand story is romantic, and the fact that LV has been around since 1854 is an incredible selling feature."

Louis Vuitton sells luxury items and has a specific audience of customers, so it's likely a little more difficult to sell certain items at higher price points to just any customer that walks in. Assure the interviewer that you understand the approach required to sell Louis Vuitton products successfully. Working for a fine retailer is often much like owning your own business. How have you shown initiative in building your business or client base in the past?

"In my current role, I have built a strong portfolio of clients, who I call whenever new products come in. It's the basis of my business, and my clients provide me with a firm referral basis as well. I went from a client base of zero to over 150 repeat buyers who come specifically to the store to see me when they want to check out a new collection or refresh their wardrobe."

Many fine retailers require their sales staff to build a portfolio of clients and create repeat business, resulting in substantial commission opportunities. Share with the interviewer how you develop your 'business' and consistently meet your targets. If you have a strong portfolio of clients that follow you from one position to another, share that as well. This client base is especially important in a luxury retail environment like Louis Vuitton.

"I am a true entrepreneur at heart and have been a small business owner. It was an e-commerce store related to beauty and lifestyle products. I enjoyed the opportunity to work on a start-up and learn about social media marketing. I successfully sold my half of the company to my business partner last year."

What experience do you have mentoring a new team member?

"In my previous role, I was the most senior floor salesperson, so when we had a new employee join, my manager asked if I would be willing to let her shadow me. I tried to put myself in her shoes and think about what she would need to learn first at a foundational level. I spent the first few days with her, letting her observe what I did and how to operate some of our equipment, like the cash register and computer. I made sure she was comfortable, and when she was ready, I had her start taking over while I observed and was there for support and any questions she had. It felt good to be there for someone new and help them get acclimated to our organization."

You don't have to be in a leadership role to mentor or help train a new employee, so this question may come up in any position. The interviewer wants to get a feel for what experience you have the training and mentoring others and if you have an interest in or passion for it. Think about how you may have helped onboard or guide a new employee in a past role and if you don't have experience in the workplace, think about anytime you may have mentored someone in a volunteer setting. How were you selected to train or mentor someone, and what did you enjoy about it?

"I don't have any formal mentoring or training experience in the workplace; however, I did serve in a mentor capacity for two years at a local nonprofit. I mentored at-risk youth by spending time with them weekly and getting to know them, helping them with homework, learning new life skills like balancing a checkbook or using a debit card, etc. I love being able to teach people new skills and feel like I have strong communications skills that make me effective in a mentor role."

At Louis Vuitton, we always seek to hire top performers. Tell me about your past three years' sales targets and results.

"My past three years' sales targets have been $700K, $850K, and $1.2M consecutively. In year 1, I met my target of $720K, in Year 2, I exceeded it by 21%, and this past year I was shy by just $60K. I attribute this to a substantial return that I had to take due to a manufacturer's defect. Also, the economy has been a bit lighter than we expected this year, and luxury goods took a bit of a hit."

Walk the interviewer through your sales targets and results, highlighting your top achievements. If you have fallen short of your expected targets, you need to own up to that and discuss the situation. Honesty is always the best policy. If you have documentation to back up your sales, bring that with you.

"I have exceeded my sales targets for the last five years! I attribute my success to my great client follow-up process and high customer referral rating. In my current role, my annual target is $500,000. In the last three years, I have sold $520,000, $589,000, and $610,000. I have seen consistent growth, and this year am aiming to reach $670,000."

"I can only speak to my most recent three years of retail work. During my last job, the company was rebranding and moving locations. My individual sales goals at the beginning of the holiday season began at $75,000 and gradually increased each month until my personal monthly sales goal for the month was $95,000. We were required to meet our sales goals each month or risk a write-up, so I most certainly made sure I went above and beyond for my own goal, as well as helping others reach theirs."

"I am a project manager and working with developers exclusively since 2019. Last year only, I have sold or helped sold over 100 properties during COVID."

What is the most expensive product or service you have ever sold?

"I have sold luxury products for many years, but I would say that the most expensive was a vehicle worth nearly $400K when working at the Aston Martin dealership. That was an incredible day for me!"

Louis Vuitton products can range in cost from hundreds of dollars to several thousands of dollars per item. The interviewer wants to see that you are capable of and experienced in selling high-end goods. Talk about your best sale, biggest win, or a significant career highlight that excites you. Now is the time to brag about yourself!

"The most expensive product I have ever sold was a $40,000 engagement ring. It was so exhilarating to close such a big sale, and it motivated me to achieve more big career wins like that!"

At Louis Vuitton, we pride ourselves on our high-end products. Walk me through your experience in selling high-end products.

"I started my career in luxury sales with company ABC, and after spending two years there, I moved on to company XYZ, which was an even higher price tag. With ABC, my average sale was $2500, and with XYZ, it was $6500. I am accustomed to sales quotas of $1M plus and would have no issue asking for the sale when it comes to a $10,000 luxury handbag or fine couture item."

Louis Vuitton products are in the multi-thousand dollar price tag arena. Assure the interviewer that you are able and comfortable selling products with a more significant price tag. Use examples from your work history and talk about a massive sale or large sales target from the past.

"I have a total of five years of experience in luxury sales. This experience has included designer labels, diamonds, and cars. I am most comfortable working in a luxury setting and would fit in very well here at Louis Vuitton."

At Louis Vuitton, we like to promote from within whenever possible. Where would you like to see your career grow over the next three to five years?

"I work in a smaller organization where promotions and growth are limited. I am interested in joining Louis Vuitton as a sales representative and would like to eventually move into a leadership role. In three to five years, I would love to be in a dedicated leadership position such as a regional manager or customer care manager."

The interviewer wants to understand your ambitions and desired trajectory better. Respond with the ways you would like to see your career flourish. If you aren't interested in growing into a management role, you may want to grow and expand other skill sets or continue your education. I hope in 3-5 years I still will be working in my role with Louis Vuitton, only to be much more educated about my role from the day I started. Consider positive employee reviews that you may have read, your love of fashion and luxury products, and why you feel you align with their culture and values when considering your response. "I have been passively seeking a new position for quite some time and haven't jumped on anything yet because I want to make sure it's the right fit. I'm passionate about fashion, so I have been trying to find a role that allows me to explore that passion more while also aligning with my education. I feel that this job is right for me at this point in my career because it offers an opportunity to utilize my recent education in business management while allowing me to advance in luxury sales."

"I have always been fascinated by the brand as a young girl. And I'm now impressed by the collaboration you do with Unicef, it's a great way to give back. I want a career at LV because I know I am the right candidate for this position. I have a strong operational background and lots of retail and hospitality background. Since LV is also focussing on brining technology in the products and I'm coming from a technology background I think I'm a great fit for the company as well."

"I am very career-focused and would like to see my career grow into a management-focused role. I have been reading books on leadership this year, which is helping me prepare for the responsibility when the opportunity comes my way. On your website, you mention that, at Louis Vuitton, there is no typical career path but rather endless possibilities that all lead to success. That phrase stood out to me in a significant way."

"I agree that professional growth is significant for any person wanting to advance in their career. I plan to grow my career by fully immersing myself in training at Louis Vuitton and taking full advantage of any additional workshops and courses that come my way."

"I am very focussed on career development which I have also done at my previous jobs. I find building relationships with team members, management teams, corporate offices very important. Asking for feedback is a great way to grow in my career and maybe ask for career opportunities where I can for a short period of time work in a different area of the company to gain more knowledge."

What would you do if a customer asked you about a product or service and you were unsure of the answer?

"If I had a client ask me about something that I didn't know enough about, I would find the answer for them before giving a potentially false answer. I am okay with admitting when I don't know something, and I love to learn new things. Of course, I would find the answer quickly by asking the appropriate person or finding it within the company's internal resources."

Louis Vuitton has a wide range of products, so you will likely run into a situation where you're unsure how to answer a customer. Demonstrate to the interviewer that you can acknowledge when you don't know something instead of making it up on the fly and commit to finding that answer and following up with the customer timely. Give an example of how you self-help and track down information or how you've found the appropriate person to ask. Telling a customer, "I don't know," or "that's not my department," is never appropriate, and the interviewer wants to learn more about your problem-solving approach.

"I plan to know everything possible about your products, so I hope this would not happen to me very often! Should it happen, I would utilize the resources available or ask a manager for assistance."

"Thank you for bringing this up. I would definitely check with all my possible resources on how to give a proper answer and if I can't get the right information myself, I will get back to my colleagues who have more insight and expertise on the matter than I do."

How would you handle an upset customer?

"I would stop what I was doing and give the customer my full attention. I try to de-escalate first by listening without interrupting. I remain calm, and as long as I do not feel that my safety is threatened, I try to resolve the matter by speaking to them with kindness and compassion; I apologize for the problem and assure them I will assist them with resolving it. If a situation continues to escalate or is a problem I cannot fix, I immediately page my manager for assistance."

The interviewer wants to know your experience with angry customers and what processes you follow if the situation occurs. Employees in customer service must remain professional and calm under stress. Take this opportunity to demonstrate how you de-escalate and give specific examples when possible.

"I once had a customer come into my store yelling about how she had just purchased an item the day before, and the leather ripped already. I remained calm and kept my tone pleasant and positive. I apologized for the problem and the inconvenience of having to come back to the store and asked her for her receipt. She did not have it and continued to be upset about the quality of the item and her wasted time having to come back. I again apologized and offered to look the information up in our system for her. I was able to locate her receipt, and we replaced her item. My manager also approved a discount on another item in the store for her trouble. I was able to de-escalate the situation by being helpful and understanding and not getting emotional in response to her anger."

What do you enjoy most about working in retail?

"I am passionate about fashion and love to help others find that perfect piece of jewelry or handbag that fits them! The holidays are my favorite time of year because I love to help shoppers pick out gifts for loved ones. I enjoy the investigative part of getting to know someone's style or color preferences to help them find the exact item we have to fit their style or personality. I also love how excited customers get when I help them find what they are looking for."

Share with the interviewer what makes you passionate about working in the retail industry and, more specifically, luxury retail. Consider what excites you and motivates you to come to work every day. Be specific when responding. Consider mentioning a skill that you excel at that you get to use daily or your passion for helping others. Be honest and genuine when answering.

"I am not someone who enjoys working from home. I enjoy interacting with the public and diverse groups of people each day. I love being a light in someone's day and just going the extra mile to smile and have a positive impact on someone. I know what it's like to shop somewhere and be ignored or made to feel unwelcome, so I try to deliver a customer service experience that one will not forget."

Describe your ideal manager.

"My ideal manager genuinely cares about their employees and their success. I once had a manager who, in our one-on-ones, always started by asking how my family was, and that meant a lot. She would also ask what was going well and what wasn't and took a true interest in wanting to help me succeed. I also value a manager with good communication skills. I appreciate when updates and changes are communicated, and my manager follows up when they say they will."

The interviewer is trying to understand your preferred management style. In some cases, the person interviewing you could be your potential manager, so this question will determine if you would align well with them. Be sure you research Louis Vuitton's culture and if possible, research the background and education of the person you're interviewing with. Consider past employers and the best leader you had. What traits or habits made them enjoyable to work with? In your response, explain some of the qualities you're looking for in a leader, but also demonstrate that you're flexible and work under different management styles.

"I prefer a manager who gives me the training, tools, and resources to be successful and then trusts me to do the job. I appreciate being given autonomy while also knowing I have the support of my manager and team if needed. I also value a manager who keeps lines of communication open, and I feel comfortable approaching if I have a concern or need assistance."

This role requires 10% travel. Are you able to meet this expectation?

"I am willing to travel occasionally and understand the importance of meeting face to face to maintain relationships or to train with the team. I'm flexible during the week; however, weekends would be more of a constraint. Can you share how frequently weekends would be required?"

The job description should list if travel is required for the position and, if so, what percentage of time it would be necessary. Don't be afraid to ask follow-up questions here so that you fully understand what is required. Consider asking if the travel is weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Also, consider asking if the travel required is within 30-60 miles or out of state. Knowing all the details will allow you to answer more honestly. Think about whether or not you would be able to travel and if you would need advanced notice each time. If you have limitations that restrict your ability, be upfront about it. If you have some flexibility speak openly about the circumstances.

"At my previous company, I was required to travel two days a month, and it was no problem. For overnight travel, I would ask to have as much notice as possible so I can arrange my personal affairs."

What are three qualities you feel all people working in customer service should possess?

"I would say the three most critical qualities in customer service are communication, empathy, and persuasion. They all work hand in hand. For example, suppose you have a new customer. "I make sure that the schedule is correct and that we have an appropriate number of employees working each day. If we're shorthanded, I'm not afraid to jump in and support the team. I make sure everyone understands their responsibilities and encourage them to speak up if they feel stressed or overwhelmed. During shifts, I make sure everyone takes their breaks and eats their meals. If someone feels stressed in a certain area, I work to see if we can swap a team member out, perhaps from working the sales floor to the cash register for a little bit."
