Describe a time when you had to sacrifice quality on a project or deliverable.

"I believe in performing at a high level at all times, so sacrificing quality is something I try to avoid at all costs. However, there are times when difficult choices must be made. For example, I worked on a dashboard project last month that was running behind. We knew we had to release the solution without all of the features that were originally in scope. I worked with my fellow engineers to assess the feature list and separate the must-haves from the features that could be included in a follow-up release. Of course, we included anything that had an effect on human safety as a top priority. After that, we elected to include the items that added the most value to our user base given the time we had left.Ultimately, our client was happy with the initial release. They appreciated the way our revised plan reflected a deep understanding of their business and values."

How do you manage your time?

"I will determine which project requires my attention by the number of hours we are behind and then the project size. I am comfortable delegating tasks when needed, but I am also aware that these times will require an additional commitment of hours from me. Never have I under delivered on a deadline."

If there are gaps, I make sure I allot time on my calendar to find replacements or fill the gap myself. On a daily basis, I make a plan first thing in the morning of how to spend my day. I noticed that our QA analysts experienced a lot of downtime each sprint while waiting for stories to become ready for testing. I worked with our engineers to make several changes to the way they order their work which resulted in a 23% increase in velocity. The changes we implemented required small shifts of everyone, but they made a huge difference."

"I find that with the right company, it's pretty simple to balance life and work. When I enjoy what I do, it doesn't feel like a chore. I am always sure that when at home, my family gets my attention first. I take time on the weekends to do things for myself and ensure that I regenerate before the work week begins."

I find that mentally preparing myself to be available when needed and to take breaks when it makes sense is the best way to stay balanced. I also take care of myself physically to ensure that I am ready for any challenges and stressful times that come up."

"I am a current employee at Lockheed Martin and as a company, they have put a focus on work/life balance. While at work I focus my attention on my responsibilities and tasks. "If given a choice, I would leave my documentation tasks for last. I say this because I like to spend my time with my customers so anything to do with documentation during business hours - I feel takes away from my client-facing tasks. I do understand the importance of it, though and I prioritize it accordingly."

Depending on the role you're interviewing for, you may even be expected to have advanced product knowledge and even competitor product knowledge during your interview. Not all Lockheed Martin interviews will have this exact question, but preparing to answer them will help you to have a more successful interview experience. This question is used to validate that a candidate did their research prior to their interview. The products developed by Lockheed Martin are their main source of revenue and therefore it is important for employees to have basic working knowledge of their product lines.

The level of detail required to answer this question successfully depends on the role you're interviewing for. The interviewer would like to avoid any hurdles during the offer and negotiations stage that would prevent you from being successfully on-boarded. Most job descriptions will have a long list of requirements. Hiring managers are aware that finding a candidate that checks ALL of the boxes, can sometimes be impossible. "There have been endless breakthroughs in our industry; however, I would say the one that excited me the most was the Falcon 9 Full Thrust. It's amazing to me that a partially-reusable launch system is in existence."

"I find the improvements of drones and UAV's very fascinating. Their capabilities seem boundless and I'm interested to see the improvements over the next few years."

"I have conducted a great deal of research on Lockheed Martin before meeting you today. I like your branding, and your online presence is strong. If I could make a suggestion, it would be to have a confirmation email sent to all online job applicants. I found the site a bit difficult to navigate and was not sure that my initial application went through successfully. Luckily, your HR department was amazing, and they called me just a few days later for a pre-screen interview."
