How do you like to be recognized for your accomplishments?
At Global Pet Foods, we believe that you deserve the best when it comes to your career. We like to reward our sales associates for their hard work and stellar customer service, so we want to be sure that we recognize your accomplishments in ways that are most meaningful to you. Talk to the interviewer about how you like to be acknowledged for going above and beyond.

Jordan's Answer #1
"When I accomplish something really big, like pulling off a major project or organizing an event, I think it's nice to have something celebratory. A small store 'party' is always fun because the whole team can be involved -- anything I accomplish at the store would definitely involve the contributions of my team members, so I think it's great to involve everyone."
Jordan's Answer #2
"I am very much an over-achiever and find that the best way for me to be recognized for a job well done is through words of kindness and recognition. I am easily encouraged, and the best reward for me is to know that my hard work is noticed."
2.
How do you handle situations that could cause you to be late or miss work?
Proper planning will get you far, but sometimes life happens, and you'll need a plan B. Think about some of the variables in your life that could affect your ability to arrive on time for work. Sick children, traffic, car breakdowns... the list goes on. It may not be possible for everything to work out so smoothly, getting your shift covered or still making it to work on time. Your interviewer is looking to see that you are proactive and that you can handle the stress of unexpected situations that can arise.

Jordan's Answer #1
"I stay calm and composed when issues arise. My dad got rear ended one time when driving me to school. I texted my friend to see if she could tell my teacher what happened. I explained the situation to my teacher when I got to class. If this happened on my way to work, I would call ahead of time to ensure someone could cover my shift."
Jordan's Answer #2
"I hope never to be late! When I started working at a restaurant at sixteen years old, we were taught the adage of 'if you're on time, you're late,' so I've worked to implement that into my life. I always try to arrive 15 minutes early, but there are unforeseen circumstances that can arise. I handle surprises using common sense and keeping courtesy to others top of mind."
3.
Do you have reliable transportation?
Even if you're not expected to drive for the job, you will need to have some form of reliable transportation. If you take the bus or ride a bike, that works too! Merely share that you have the means to get to work consistently and on time.

Jordan's Answer #1
"I have reliable transportation. I have a well-maintained vehicle, and I am comfortable with the amount of travel required to get to your office every day."
Jordan's Answer #2
"I take public transit; however, I find it to be very reliable. I was late to work only once last year, and that was due to a snowstorm which stalled all of our employee's commute - including those with personal vehicles. Rest assured, I am reliable and will always come to work on time."
4.
What do you hope to learn from this job at Global Pet Foods?
We're looking for lifelong, enthusiastic learners to join our team at Global Pet Foods. From product information to all of the elements of building a small business, we offer endless learning opportunities for our employees. Talk to the interviewer about what you hope to learn during your time with Global Pet Foods.

Jordan's Answer #1
"I am looking to lay the foundation for the rest of my career with this position. I'm especially interested in learning more about this market because I think I would love to open my own Global Pet Foods franchise in the next five years."
Jordan's Answer #2
"I hope to gain stronger skills in communication and customer service. I understand that retail can be challenging because of the multiple personalities you are faced with on a daily basis. I believe this will help my confidence to grow, and my sales skills as well."
5.
Are you comfortable with the physical requirements of this role?
A job in retail is physically active, especially at Global Pet Foods, where you'll be expected to stock and restock heavy products, including unloading and transporting merchandise from the stockroom to the sales floor. Are you able to commit to these responsibilities?

Jordan's Answer #1
"One of the reasons I'm excited to make the transition to retail is that I really want to be more physically active at work, so I'm excited about the opportunity to be on my feet and moving heavy objects while at work."
Jordan's Answer #2
"I currently work for a pet supplier, so I'm very familiar with lifting and hauling 50-75 lb. bags of food, organizing heavy merchandise, and being on my feet for up to 8-hour shifts. I'm definitely comfortable with the physical activity required for this role."
