"I know my colleagues rely on me to be on time and I rely on them, and I've never been late for a shift during my entire career. The only instances of times where I've had to call in sick were when I was down with a stomach bug a couple of times and when I had a sick child at home that couldn't be at school. I'm proud of my attendance record and I would bring the same to work here at Fonterra."

"I have had the pleasure of speaking with a couple of people from Fonterra prior to my interview and so far everyone seems incredibly welcoming and friendly. I also always appreciate reciprocation when it's needed."

"My family and I love to garden and we continue to grow more each and every season. We now have a grove of ornamental trees and a wide crop of vegetables. Outside of gardening, we love being outdoors and I've taken up a lot of DIY work around our property. I built a shed and new garage over the last year, and that has surely kept me plenty busy."

"For me, prioritizing work comes down to a few different things. First and foremost, it is keeping myself organized and keeping track of important deadlines on my calendar. I can break projects up into milestones and set aside time to ensure I'm meeting those. Each day as a reliability engineer is filled with fires that need to be put out. When I have myself organized with other long-term work, I have enough time each day to work on the quick things that inevitably arise. This ensures that floor staff and production are never held up. This would be the same approach I take to my work here at Fonterra."

No matter what role you are being considered for at Fonterra, it's important to know that the daily life there is action-packed and full of many duties. Tell me about the most valuable lesson you have learned over the course of the last year.

"This is a great question! In the last six months, I've taken a new approach to my work and how I prioritize the customer requests that I get and it's really helped me get the critical work done faster and provide better results to my biggest customers. In that same breath, my work with smaller customers was never put off. I've started to see some great results and returns in this new effort and I think this same approach would be very beneficial with the Fonterra farmers I would be working alongside."

The purpose, values, and principles of Fonterra are very inspiring. To gain some insight into your ability to help create goodness for future generations and always do what's right on the job, your interviewer wants to hear about the most valuable lesson you have learned during the past year.

This is a very open-ended question that you could take in many different directions. I approached my manager about my workload and let him know I wanted to work out a plan to get my workload to a more manageable level. The lesson learned that I can bring to work at Fonterra is the ability to know my workload limit and the ability to effectively manage things with success. How would you respond if a customer or colleagues asked you about a Fonterra product and you were unsure of the answer?

"Over the course of my career as a reliability engineer, I've had to do a lot of extra collaboration to get answers to production managers and floor staff because things come up that I can't possibly know. If this would come up on the job here at Fonterra, I would ensure that I understand fully what is being asked and then get to work on finding an answer. I'm never hesitant to tap on the shoulders of my colleagues. If that doesn't work, I'm quick to conduct research in product manuals or websites to get a quick answer. If I'm fortunate enough to join the larger foodservice manufacturing plan in the Asia Pacific region, my ability to be resourceful will greatly help your team."

Have you ever had a time where you had to go above and beyond your job duties to get a great result? What did you do and why was it important to do so?

"Throughout my career, I've proven my ability to put customers first in everything I do. This was made most clear a couple of years ago when I was set to meet with a prospective customer and they contacted me to let me know that they'd be unable to meet given an unexpected family situation. I immediately let them know to call me at their earliest convenience to reschedule and when they did, I coordinated our meeting for the coming Saturday. I was happy to meet with this prospective customer on my day off because of the amount of business they would bring. Our meeting went great and we had a contract signed by the following week. As Fonterra's next area manager, I will always be flexible for the farmers I will be working with on a daily basis."

Talk about a time you had to make a significant decision on the job. What was the impact of that decision and was there a positive outcome?

"As you can see from my resume, I've been in marketing for New Zealand's largest seafood producer for over nine years. Last year, we were putting new print advertisements out when a change in brand image was developed quickly. At that point, I was tasked with deciding whether to scrap that month's print ads or work hard to get new ads created and printed with the new branding. I didn't hesitate to take the latter option, because public awareness was key with our new branding. I worked hard to gather a team to create new print ads and get them to our key publications that we advertise in just in time for printing. I had to communicate quickly with key sales staff at the publications to know print dates and deadlines for our work."

On the job at Fonterra, you may come across times when you are relied upon to make a significant decision without the help of others. "Yes, I certainly do! I currently work in a warehouse setting, where I communicate regularly with our sales team, delivery reps, and inventory managers on a regular basis. I love being able to be the expert in my area and am always open to answering questions or helping someone out when needed. I'm confident that this experience will enable me to come aboard here at Fonterra and collaborate with anyone effectively."

I am not applying to or interviewing anywhere else as this sounds like the dream opportunity from what I've read and what I've learned from the team here today."

Having been an avid consumer of Anchor cheeses, butter, and milk, I'm most familiar with that brand since it's found at any local grocery store. Prior to my interview, it was great to familiarize myself with the restaurant-grade products found in your Food Professionals line and the wide variety of proteins, cheeses, and other milk products in your NZMP line."

Fonterra is comprised of three global brands: New Zealand Milk Products (NZMP), Anchor Dairy, and Anchor Food Professionals Products. If they're going to consider you for the job, your interviewer will expect you to at least have a high level of familiarity with all three product brands that you would be representing.

How do you feel dairy alternatives have impacted the dairy industry over the past few years?

"It's no secret that plant-based diets are increasing, and more consumers are coming out with sensitivity to lactose-based products. I'm sure a dairy producer like Fonterra has seen some bottom-line impact from this shift. As a prospective engineer here, it's very exciting for me to see that you are investing in this segment of the market in your investment into non-dairy protein production."

There is no doubt that plant-based dairy alternatives are continuing to grow in demand and selection and Fonterra is not blind to this fact. While they continue to champion the nutritional value of cow's milk, Fonterra is also venturing into plant-based alternatives themselves by investing in a start-up company that is using precision fermenting in the production of non-dairy proteins. With this question, your interviewer is simply looking to hear your overall thoughts on the impact of non-dairy products.

This is a particular question where you'll want to be a bit careful in how you answer, specifically in not forming a very firm opinion on one side or the other. I believe there will always be people who want real milk, and it's important to focus on delivering the best possible options for those consumers and this is something that Fonterra has always done and will continue to do."

Innovation is at its peak in the food industries across the globe. What do you believe is the latest hot trend in dairy production and distribution?

"As someone who is passionate about the environment and sustainability, technology is surely impacting things at the farm level in the dairy industry. I love the fact that technology is advancing to the point where we have robotic manure collectors and methane digestors that help reduce emissions. I'd love to hear how the local farmers that Fonterra is working with utilize these technologies."

The overall food production industry is benefitting from new innovations in things like freeze-drying, smart packaging, waste reduction, and robotics. Dairy is no stranger to this innovation and your interviewer gives you the chance to discuss what you feel is the biggest current innovation in the industry.

I believe that of the multitude of dairy categories, Fonterra Limited stands out in the cheese department. Your selection is unique and affordable. For instance, I make sure to have PZMP Mozzarella in my fridge at all times!"
