How is Facebook using AR and VR to help people to experience the world?

      How to Answer

Facebook has brought Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to the scene as options for mobile users and social media enthusiasts. If you aren't entirely sure about AR and VR in your everyday life, try to recall the Pokemon Go frenzy. Maybe you even took part! AR and VR are becoming common offerings for various applications such as Facebook and Instagram story filters, for instance. We use AR and VR in the form of filters to change our faces or to play interactive games on our mobile devices. Show the interviewer your enthusiasm for Facebook's participation in how AR and VR have evolved and become mainstream.

      Rachelle's Answer

"I like that people can take these unique features and share fun moments with family and friends. Facebook and Instagram, introducing face filters or features for stories, are just a couple of examples that I am aware of, where Facebook connects people through AR and VR."

      Rachelle's Answer

"I recently watched a 360-degree video on Facebook uploaded by my friend who visited Egypt. I couldn't believe how cool it was to see, in full scope, the beauty of the Great Pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and the Abu Simbel Temples. When Facebook says they want to connect people all over the world, this is exactly what makes the mission so beautiful and eye-opening."

"In an online shopping context, AR and VR can create a close-to-reality fitting experience that is not only entertaining for people but also can critically aid their decisions to buy. Things like shoes - people want to try them on before buying to ensure that the size fits. Maybe even dresses, t-shirts, or lipsticks. The technology already exists to facilitate such experiential shopping and I think Facebook can definitely take it further to reach a wider population in the world."

"AR allows people to express themselves within their existing physical environment. VR creates immersive and transformative experiences, allowing people to enter another environment. For example, they can virtually travel to a different location and experience the surroundings as if they were really there."

      Stephanie's Answer

Great response; given the current COVID pandemic, you may want to consider incorporating some element of the current emphasis on virtual experiences into your response. Even though the question didn't explicitly ask this, it's an opportunity you have to connect Facebook's work with AR and VR to current events and needs.
