  1. 1.

At Facebook, we give you new problems to solve on a daily basis. What is your problem-solving approach?

      How to Answer

There are many ways that you can approach problem-solving. Common problem-solving styles include rationally, analytically, logically, positively, or creatively! Should you be hired, decide which approach best sounds like your style and how your problem-solving method will benefit Facebook.

      Rachelle's Answer

"I consider myself a creative problem solver. When I have a problem, I will envision different solutions and their outcomes. With creativity comes the ability to make smart and calculated risks, allowing me to feel less constrained. When I can apply creative problem-solving techniques, I am more focused and likely to uncover an out-of-the-box and innovative solution."

      Rachelle's Answer

"I consider myself a rational problem solver. This means that I can take all available information and create a most likely-to-happen scenario based on educated assumptions. If the problem needs solving within a group of people, I will switch from rational problem solving to a more team-friendly approach such as creative problem-solving."

"I think I tend to solve problems analytically. I like to collect information and make decisions based on past experiences that are relevant to the problem at hand. I'm good at narrowing down and eliminating irrelevant data."

      Stephanie's Answer

This sounds like a thoughtful approach! To strengthen your response, I suggest including a specific example from your current role or a previous role. What was the situation? How did you solve the problem? A specific example will take this response from good to great!

"I consider myself a logical problem solver. I am also used to making decisions even when not all pieces of information are present, as we may experience often in a growing online commerce. I work with the mindset of 'figuring things out no matter what' with all the resources that I can draw within the given time/context, apply logical thinking, and make educated assumptions to arrive at the best problem definition and solution."

      Stephanie's Answer

Solving problems through the lens of logic is a valuable and employable skill! My only suggestion for strengthening your response is to include a brief specific example that illustrates your approach. When have you used logic to solve a problem in the workplace or in another aspect of your life? What was the outcome?
