"I never have, to my knowledge, broken a confidentiality agreement. Despite my reasons for leaving a position, I would never choose to hurt a previous employer in any way."

Companies will have confidentiality agreements for a variety of reasons. These could be to protect their trade secrets or to ensure that you do not bring clients over on the occasion that you leave their company. Talk to the interviewer about your thoughts on confidentiality agreements.

"A confidentiality agreement has never bound me; however, I would never knowingly break an agreement."

What questions do you have for me?

"Thank you for asking - I do have a few questions. What is top of mind when it comes to filling this role? Also, what types of career growth opportunities would follow this position? And lastly, do you have internal candidates who are also interviewing for this position?"

It's always a great idea to have questions ready for the interviewer. Review the company website and other online resources to ensure the queries you have are not mundane, or redundant. The last thing an interviewer wants to hear is a list of items you could have found the answers for from merely watching a video on Dropbox' website!Here are some sample questions: - When would you like to have this position filled? - How long has this role been vacant? - Is this a replacement search or a newly created role? - What is your favorite part about working here? - What is the company's primary goal for this position in the next 12 months? - Is there anything from my background and experience that I can clarify for you? - What do you see as the most significant change in this industry over the past three years? - Is there any reason why you would not hire me?

"I appreciate you opening the floor for questions. I am wondering what your timeline is for a decision on this opening? Also, what was the biggest struggle the last software engineer encountered in this role?"

Roughly work out how many Dropbox users there are in the United States right now.

"I have read that Dropbox has over 500 million users, which I believe 30% are based in the United States. Of those, approximately 12 million are paying customers. So, by my research and calculations, I would guesstimate that there are 150 million users in the USA and about 3-4 million paid accounts."

This question is a skill-testing question not because the interviewer needs you to give a perfect answer, but because they want to see how you go about solving problems. It is easy to say you are mathematically minded by nature, but it's another to 'show your work.' This question is commonly asked in Dropbox interviews and for that reason, well worth preparing a solid answer to. To have a great response, you should know offhand how many users Dropbox has overall and other helpful statistics.

"I have been researching Dropbox and understand that you have 12 million paying customers worldwide. I am guessing that 4 in every 10 people have used Dropbox before, but there are far more users periodically using the free account option. I guess that one in 40 people pay for a full Dropbox account. With all that, I estimate that Dropbox has 100 million users in the USA and about 2.5 million of those pay for a premium account."

How would you explain the cloud to someone with zero internet experience?

"If I were to explain cloud computing to someone outside of the industry, I would say that cloud computing is a way to deliver computing services over the internet, using the cloud. For instance, we use cloud computing when we store photos online, and even when we use different apps on our phone."

Technical terms and methods can be confusing to anyone outside of the industry. Some say that if you cannot quickly explain what you do in layman's terms, then you do not understand it well enough. You should be able to explain everything that you do, on a Grade 8 level. The interviewer is testing to see if you can do this. Keep your reply brief and try to keep your words under three syllables!

"My mom recently asked me what cloud computing was and so I told her that she uses cloud technology everytime she asks the internet to perform something on demand such as saving pictures online, access files online, or even playing certain games on her phone."

How would you sell Dropbox for business?

"These days, everyone is looking for ease of use and immediate delivery. I would sell Dropbox for Business by pointing out to the decision maker how the business services will satisfy their employees, making their day easier, and in the end - improving project workflow and also morale."

This question is designed to see how well you could stand behind Dropbox products. A company is most successful when they have complete buy-in from their employees. The interviewer will also be able to see how thoroughly you researched Dropbox before your interview. Be sure to know about the company's services and why they are a great solution.

"I have used Dropbox for business use, nearly ten years of my career. I would sell the product by sharing what it has done for me. The benefits include better team collaboration, zero lost files, and smooth project workflow."

Besides Dropbox, name your favorite tech company. Why are they your favorite?

"Besides Dropbox, I always have always had my eye on Microsoft. I appreciate that they actively look for business partners all over the world, and they award innovation when they see it. For instance, they host Microsoft Inspire an annual weekend dedicated to inspirational people in the tech industry."

The interviewer would like to understand the types of companies that you admire. Perhaps you follow their social media pages or enjoy reading about their latest and greatest happenings in the news. Whichever company you choose to discuss, be prepared to point out the reasons why you appreciate their work. Your reply will also give the interviewer an indicator on the types of companies you may be interested in working for or to which you are currently applying.

"I have had an interest in Intuit because of their workplace culture. The company is a bit more mature; however, they still act like a startup in many senses which is attractive to me."

Dropbox values an attitude of intrapreneurship. Can you share with me how you display an entrepreneurial mindset in the workplace?

"We had an awkward intake procedure when I first started working for my company. New clients would hire us, and we would phone interview them - taking notes along the way. I made the recommendation that we send them a fillable form where they can think about their answer and type it out, make edits, and then send to us. This form was implemented, and now our clients can give us a much more thought-out and thorough idea of their needs and vision."

Dropbox employees are encouraged to step into their creativity and present ideas that may be unique. Two students founded the company with a brilliant idea, and so, they are not one to stifle other people's desires to act as entrepreneurs in the workplace (or, intrapraneurs as they are often called). Share with the interviewer about a time when you have taken the initiative in the workplace.

"I believe it's important for every employee to display an entrepreneurial attitude. In my current role, our sales script was very outdated, so I chose to use my time to revamp the book and then submit the potential changes to my boss. She loved the initiative, and after some minor edits, we introduced the new script to the sales team. It was a proud moment in my career."

In your opinion, what is the most exciting startup at the moment?

"I have had my eye on Slack lately. I love how they have reinvented how people chat in the workplace. You can get very creative in their platform, and they are growing very fast!"

Dropbox began as a startup between two MIT students who tapped into their creativity, smarts, and an innovative mindset. The interviewer would like to see that you have a finger on the beat of recent startups and the latest and greatest in the tech industry. Discuss which startups have interested you the most. There is no right or wrong response; the interviewer will gain an idea of the topics that interest you.

"I recently read about a startup named Tilr which changes the hiring process for candidates and employers. The software makes matches based only on skills, a plan to reinvent the way companies look at applicants. I think it's a fantastic idea and I look forward to hearing more about their progress."

What is the proudest achievement on your resume?

"The greatest accomplishment in my career was graduating University as an honors student while still working full time in a related field. I was top of my class, and working full time. This achievement showed me that I could dedicate myself to my career and reach the goals that I set for myself. It felt great to accomplish so much."

The interviewer would like to know which career accomplishment you value the most. Talking about your most significant achievement will give the interviewer a definite idea of where you place your values. It will also show the interviewer more about your personality, how you like to be motivated, and how to coach you in the future. It is okay to brag a little bit when answering this question. Show that you are proud of yourself and your career accomplishments!

"I have many accomplishments of which I am proud. Overall, I would say that my greatest work accomplishment is the positive reputation that I have in the tech industry. Tech is a full industry, with many professionals fighting to find their voice. I'm so proud to have carved a distinct career path for myself, despite those challenges."

Name one way you feel Dropbox could improve its service offering.

"I believe that many people start with Dropbox, as did I, with a free trial. I found that the follow-up after initial registration could have been more thorough. I know Dropbox is not a 'pushy' company; however, with your freemium business model you could potentially tap into initial subscribers a touch sooner."

The interviewer is looking for your genuine interest in how well Dropbox performs, and what you feel they could do better. This question is not the opportunity for you to offer ideas of a complete overhaul. Give a response related to one thing you feel could be improved, or added, to the Dropbox service offering.

"I have been thoroughly impressed with Dropbox' service offerings and the price point, for all the customer receives. With that said, perhaps another package option between the Business and Enterprise level that fills the needs of larger businesses between the two."

Dropbox was recently hacked. What would you have done in this situation?

"When Dropbox suffered a cyber attack in 2012, I read that the hack was due to a Dropbox employee using the same password between corporate Dropbox accounts and a personal LinkedIn account. First, I would announce that practice to be against policy, which would result in termination. Second, I believe it's important to put out the media fire as soon as possible. News of a hack will get out, one way or another, so it's better if the company that suffered the attack is the first to announce, with a plan already in place. Next, I would ensure that each customer was contacted via an urgently placed email, prompting them to change their passwords. Overall, the most important action is to own the incident and be public about the changes you are making as a company to avoid the situation from repeating itself."

Dropbox has suffered highly publicized hacks, leaving customer information vulnerable and passwords exposed. It's a terrible situation for any company to face, and the interviewer wants to know how you would react in a time of crisis, such as this. If you have ever encountered a similar situation with a past employer, you can discuss it as long as you are not disclosing private information by doing so. Cyber attacks are becoming more advanced every day. How would you react?

"I am confident that Dropbox handled the situation the best possible way they could have. I have never encountered a cyber attack in my years of employment in the tech industry, so if this situation were to happen to me, I would follow company protocol and do as much research as possible in the area of security breaches and prevention."

Share your thoughts on Dropbox' freemium business model.

"When I was working as a freelancer, I spend time with clients who heavily relied on a freemium business model as a method for their high-quality lead generation. I love the concept and appreciate how Dropbox offers free options for those who need the service for small tasks and personal cloud storage. It's a great way to show potentially paying customers what you can do before they commit!"

The freemium business model has become more popular over the last few years. Essentially it is a strategy where a product or service is offered free of charge (typically digital based), but the company charges for a premium account, or upgrade. In this case, Dropbox' basic service is free; however, there is a monthly fee if you want unlimited space, upgraded security features, and other team collaboration services. Let the interviewer know if you have worked for a company with a freemium-based payment model in the past. Focus on the positives of this type of customer attraction strategy.

"Dropbox is already a highly affordable service so it's great that you can offer a basic service for free, s a teaser for potentially paying clients. I appreciate the freemium business model. Try before I buy - I am a big fan."

Dropbox believes that students can achieve great things. Tell me about your favorite project while attending post-secondary.

"My favorite project was a paper I wrote on 'Smart Home Environments and the Cloud.' At the time, the concept was very new, and so I had to dig and dig to find the appropriate resources and information. I learned a great deal about smart home environments, which is an incredibly intriguing topic."

Did you know that Dropbox was started in 2007 by two MIT students with a great idea, and some seed funding? For this reason, Dropbox knows that you do not need to be well into your career to have innovative ideas. They value education and seek to hire those who are committed to learning. Talk about your favorite project in post-secondary and why it was a stand-out project for you.

"In my final year, I had a group project focused on building a cloud-based e-health system. We built a private, cloud-based documenting system where, in theory, large medical organizations could communicate with each other securely with a primary focus on privacy and confidentiality. I learned a lot about cloud security measures and look forward to bringing this knowledge and applying it to projects at Dropbox."

Dropbox works with many Enterprise level clients. Do you have any face to face experience with major organizations?

"I currently work with clients such as Nike, Ramada, and Quaker. These clients come to me with their technical issues and because of their significant spend with my company, I am sure to uphold their expectations and exceed the customer service standard."

Dropbox boasts more than 300,000 teams trust Dropbox Business with their work. Some of Dropbox' significant clients include Adidas, Hyatt, Expedia, and National Geographic. Talk to the interviewer about any major client accounts you have handled in the past, or any time you have been in an important client facing role.

"I have been in a client facing position for a couple of years, with my current employer. With that said, my contact has been limited to the small business division. I am confident; however, that the size of the client will not change the fact that I deliver the utmost in customer service, and would represent Dropbox proudly in every client interaction and touch point."

Which are your favorite Dropbox features?

"For the past while, I have used Dropbox for Individuals. I especially appreciate the Smart Sync feature because I can see and access every file in my account and every folder shared with me. I can always find what I need, straight from the app on my iPhone."

The interviewer at Dropbox would like to see that you have taken the initiative to get to know their services and products. A little bit of research will tell you that Dropbox offers service options for individuals, as well as business solutions. You would likely have used Dropbox at one time or another, whether in your personal life or the workplace. Briefly mention a couple of the services you are familiar with and explain why you appreciate those particular products. Be specific about how you have used them, and be enthusiastic!

"My current company uses Dropbox for Business, and we subscribe to the Enterprise package. We can collaborate as a group, using the company -managed groups feature, and I appreciate the integration Dropbox offers with other platforms that we frequently use. Because I am on the road a lot for work, I greatly appreciate being able to access all of my important files from one place."

What would you consider your technical specialty?

"Computer Science and technical ecosystems have always been a solid area for me. I have a big interest in how network communication improves our daily lives and our overall business efficiency. I see that you are looking for team members who are experts in cloud computing which is what caught my eye when I first saw your job posting."

Do you have any particular areas of interest or ability? Talk to the interviewer about your strengths and be sure to highlight any specific skills that you excel in. It's a great idea, if you can, to highlight particular skills listed on the Dropbox job description. If there is a related area of interest where you'd like to expand your capabilities, you can mention those as well.

"I have been focusing my career on becoming a cloud integration specialist although I do have cross-platform app development expertise as well."

How do you keep up-to-date on new technologies and trends in this industry?

"I keep up to date on new technologies and trends through a variety of sources. I follow three different blogs from industry leaders as well as read multiple articles online per week from reliable sources such as TechCrunch and Mashable."

One way that a potential employer will gauge 'fit' is by ensuring that you are passionate about your particular industry. Show the interviewer that you are passionate about payment technology, and cloud technology by openly discussing how you stay on top of industry trends. In tech, there is a multitude of variety when it comes to educating yourself and staying up to date on changes. Because tech changes by the minute, it is especially important that you lean on reliable resources.

"I keep up on new trends in tech by reading MIT Technology Review whenever possible. I also follow a few of my favorite influencers on social media such as Elon Musk, Guy Kawasaki, and Kara Swisher."

What do you think you will like about this role with Dropbox?

"I look forward to helping companies by streamlining processes that will help them make solid decisions surrounding their digital future. I also know that I will appreciate the holistic approach that Dropbox takes with their employee health."

"In my previous role, I recognized that our team needed a training program to bring others in at a quicker rate. I took the initiative to create the training program, playbook and schedule, incorporating all the work we did in a way that people could easily replicate. The team loved having it, and more so, enjoyed having others, fully trained, join us quickly."

Have you ever taken the opportunity to present your employer with potential change? Talk to the hiring manager about a time when you took the initiative in the workplace.

"I recently made suggestions to my manager about the team messaging application we were using. I found a team based app that offered a lower monthly cost, with added features. He took the suggestion, and it has worked well for our team! The company was happy with the cost savings as well."

We encourage innovation at Dropbox. What does innovation mean to you?

"In my previous role I was fortunate enough to introduce my company to the idea of a gold level service where, in addition to our general customer service, we added on service options. Our customer base responded very positively, and we kept the program running for a few years."

At the end of the week, the projects go to a vote, and the best projects are presented to the C-suite. From there, if the ideas can be brought to life, they are! "In my current position, I create new products and services nearly every week! The most recent product that I created was an application that generated and stored unique passwords. Our customers received it well, and we are continuing to expand on the product now."

There are many options for communication software and messaging applications. Give the interviewer a brief overview of the apps you are experienced in and assure them that you can learn their internal system, should it be new to you.

"Although I have not worked with a team based messaging application, I am confident that I would learn very quickly. Which team based messaging apps do you use at Dropbox? I would love to get a head start and begin learning."

We consider research to be the backbone of what we do at Dropbox. Do you think it's important to conduct research before beginning a project or would you rather jump right in?

"I agree that research is the backbone of a strong project. Without it, we miss important details and waste a lot of time. I like to research before starting a project so that I can lay out a plan and understand the potential hurdles as well."

Talk to the interviewer about your work habits and the way in which you prefer to approach a new project. If you have a sense of how Dropbox prefers to approach their work you should discuss that method. For instance, if the interviewer tells you that they prefer extensive research before beginning a project, that is your queue to talk about your excellent research skills.

"Although there are some instances where jumping right it may be required, I always prefer to research before I begin a project. Rest assured; I would always follow your preferred methods, should I be hired."

"I have signed non-disclosure agreements in the past; although I am not currently under one. I see the importance of agreements such as this and am most willing to comply."

Signing a non-disclosure agreement is quite common in the software and technology industry. If hired, you will likely become privy to trade secrets, pending patents, and other innovative projects that must remain confidential. Talk to the interviewer about your willingness to sign an agreement. If you are currently under a non-disclosure or non-compete agreement with your present employer, now is the time to discuss that.

"I am happy to review any privacy and confidentiality agreements that you have."

Looking at our products and services, what do you think we do better at Dropbox than any of our competitors?

"When I was preparing for this interview I read that Dropbox was given the Crunchie Award in 2010 for Best Internet Application, and has ranked as one of the most valuable startups in the US and the world. You are a trailblazer in the area of cloud storage, which is amazing."

Dropbox has a few competitors when it comes to cloud storage services. These include GoogleDrive, OneDrive by Microsoft, and Box. Before your interview, be sure to research Dropbox and any awards or recognition they have recently received. In their industry, and competitive space, where do they stand out? Be sure to speak positively about the organization's recent achievements to show that you are interested and engaged in their work.

"After reading reviews on your company, I believe that your reputation is the most solid and sincere of all your competitors. Amazing service is always the best way to stand out."

"I believe the best way to stay ahead of your competitors is to pay a big amount of attention to the fine details. When you put out a great product, others will try to mimic your work, but they will cut corners because they will feel rushed to get it out on the marketplace first. I will contribute to the success of Dropbox by committing my most attentive work to you every day."

It is critical that you research Dropbox and their most vigorous competitors, before your interview. What does Dropbox do best, and who is trying to do it better? The bigger stand-outs include Google Drive, Box, and Microsoft's OneDrive. Speak openly with the interviewer about your ability to work competitively and how you plan to contribute to the continued success of Dropbox.

"I think that the best way to stay ahead of competitors is to keep your projects as simple as possible while remaining innovative. People want simple, easy products, which they can understand. What I've seen from my competitors lately is that they overcomplicate their products and service offerings. I offer clean and consistent work that your buyers would relate to."

Tell me about the most interesting project you have worked on this year and the biggest thing you learned from it.

"In my previous role we were working on a project related to data security in the cloud, for a large banking institution. I was also able to learn a lot about the critical relationship between cloud computing, privacy, and security."

The interviewers at Dropbox would like to know where your interest piques so they can potentially place you in an area that best suits your strengths and interests. Discuss with the interviewer one of your recent projects that particularly piqued your interest. Did it stretch you professionally? What was the biggest takeaway for you from that particular project?

"I find the majority of the projects that I have been working on this past year to be very interesting. If I had to choose one, I would choose to work on the Uber app. Since I am still in my internship, I didn't have any major contributions; however, I learned a lot about on-demand apps and building a friendly user interface."

In your opinion, what has been the biggest advancement in technology this past year?

"There have been so many great advancements in technology this year. Recently, I was reading an article by MIT Technology Review and was amazed at the incredible advancements this year. The one that stood out most to me was cloud-based AI such as Google bringing TensorFlow. It's an open-source AI library that I look forward to learning more about."

"The most impressive advancement, in my opinion, is the continued integration of mobile and cloud technology. Tech connects most of the modern world, and we can do absolutely everything from our phones these days."

"After researching the role online, I know you seek a Senior Full Stack Engineer with interest in data science. The technical requirements that you would like to see include HTML, AJAX, and CSS. I am well versed in the tasks and programs you are asking for and am confident that I meet the strict requirements to perform in this role successfully."
