  1. 1.

Rate your communication skills from 1-10 with proper examples backing your given rating.

      How to Answer

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in communication? Why did you choose that particular rating for yourself?

      Rachelle's Answer

"I rate my communication skills as a 9/10 as I will, on occasion, have times when I am not as clear as I would like to be. My supervisor and co-workers will attest to my clear and concise communication skills. Because I am an open leader, my team will let me know if I need to clarify anything."

      Rachelle's Answer

"I will rate myself an 8.5 because I consider myself a strong communicator. It is the foundation of all success in business. I am always striving to be a better communicator, so I leave the rest of the scale as an aspirational measure."

"I would say 7/10. I consider myself a good communicator. It is the foundation of all success in business. I am always striving to be a better communicator, so I say 7 as an aspirational measure."

      Alexandra's Answer

This is a good answer that shows confidence as well as humility. If I were the interviewer, I may follow up asking what it would take to increase your rating (e.g. is there a specific skill within communication you're trying to hone? Would practice get you there?)

"8, good skills, but I do have room for improvement due to sometimes not listening as well as I should because I am thinking of my response before the other person has finished talking."

      Rachelle's Answer

This answer is very honest, which any interviewer should appreciate! It would be great if you could discuss precisely what you are doing to improve.

"I would say my communication skills is a 7. I do need to work more on my skills. But I do try to make sure that I make clear what needs to be done and not to rely on other people to tell the other coworkers. Sometimes when you try to and rely on other people to convey the message, it gets construed. So it’s better for you to convey the msg yourself, so there is no confusion."

      Lauren's Answer

This is an honest response. You are open to learning, which will be highly favorable.

"I rate my communication skills a 7 of 10. I can certainly grow in this area and learn from those around me. I make a conscious effort to speak directly to colleagues to eliminate confusion. Messages can become distorted if too many people are unnecessarily included."
